16-Post

So with Thespian's Stage, the question on everyone's mind, regarding that card is, "Will it bump 12-Post to 16-Post?" I don't know, but I want to try. So for the first attempt I'm trying a closer to MUD approach rather than make the room in UG 12-Post. I'm attempting a splash for Green for the time being because Primeval Titan is just that much of a powerhouse when it comes to ramping out posts, and Ancient Stirrings is one of the best cards in Modern that I've come across for primarily...

Modern - Titan Tron

Posted 09-30-2012 at 09:22 PM by Mockingbird
Updated 10-01-2012 at 08:30 PM by Mockingbird

So with the ban of Primeval Titan in Commander and rotation from Standard, I have come to the conclusion to play Tron in Modern because Cloudpost is apparently still too problematic.

So to vent my frustration on the latest ban in Commander, I've poured my paycheck into building a Modern Deck that not only plays Primeval Titan, but the other banned Titans in EDH: Emrakul, The Aeons Torn and Sundering Titan. And then I threw in some Wurmcoil Engines and a lot of Karn Liberateds because...

About the latest Commander Update

Posted 09-18-2012 at 08:56 PM by Mockingbird

Let's just get this out of the way quickly since if I have any regular readers left, they know I have thoughts on this subject.

Yes, I'm aware Primeval Titan has been banned in Commander.
Yes, I saw this coming.
Yes, this does upset me despite me seeing this coming.
No, I will not quit Commander or Magic over this.
Yes, I will be playing Modern soon.

Now, I have to get back to my school work.

The Netdeck Deck

Posted 07-07-2012 at 04:47 PM by Mockingbird
Updated 07-10-2012 at 05:11 PM by Mockingbird

We have a rare opportunity right now in Magic the Gathering. Today to discuss my debut to as blogging again, I want to discuss two soon to be rotating cards:

Phantasmal Image
Phyrexian Metamorph

Why? Two words: Clone reprint (and Evil Twin is in Standard right now). Right now, there is a rare opportunity to play a mystical deck that a friend told me about playing once known as Xerox.dek.

The basic strategy: throw your opponent's strategy into their...

WUb - Humanless Spirits

Posted 02-13-2012 at 12:17 PM by Mockingbird
Updated 02-16-2012 at 11:06 PM by Mockingbird

This is a fun deck that I want to try... mainly because I want to see if I can get Drogskol Reaver to work. If I were to make this competitive though, I'd probably drop him for the Dungeon Geists in my sideboard (because I have a feeling this is one of those decks that tends to want to win before I'd be able to cast him). One thing I'm considering if I go more Esper Heavy is Vault of the Archangel, but I'm not going to stretch the deck so thin for just Drogskol Reaver. Giving spirit tokens deathtouch...

[First Draft] Wolf-RUG

Posted 02-12-2012 at 11:26 PM by Mockingbird
Updated 02-13-2012 at 10:39 AM by Mockingbird

So this is a fun idea that I'm trying out. I've figured that all the other colors besides blue have had their fun with Wolf-Run Ramp, so I'd take the challenge of seeing if I could get RUG Wolf-Run to work, mainly because I like how Frost Titan looks as a finisher... although I haven't forgot about Consecrated Sphinx either.

This is only a skeleton of the deck, so I can see where to take it from here.

Deck
Lands: 26
4x Inkmoth Nexus
2x Kessig Wolf-Run

That Chill Down the Spine

Posted 02-01-2012 at 07:13 PM by Mockingbird
Updated 02-20-2012 at 09:43 AM by Mockingbird

So before I delve into today's topic, I felt it necessary to explain where I've been because this time there's a good reason (finally!) for why my blog has been gathering dust. You see, I had a small issue come up in real life that rendered me computerless for the past week. And it's a shame that it did because despite popular belief, Dark Ascension is not as a bad of a set as I make it out to be. Flavor-wise, I stand by everything I said about being horrible (and I got my first troll, assuring...

Dark Ascension Tastes Like Crap

Posted 01-16-2012 at 12:47 PM by Mockingbird
Updated 01-18-2012 at 10:57 PM by Mockingbird

Wizards has sure drop the ball on this set's plot. And it's not because they aren't trying. It's because they are just doing it wrong. And the problem stems from the fact that the creative team is religiously following horror tropes closer than the Pope follows Catholicism.

"Oh, but Mockingbird, you mysterious genius that feels disappointed with this set's flavor and talks to himself, isn't it a good thing that Wizards of the Coast understands what their tropes are?"...

On the Eve of the Next Era

Posted 01-08-2012 at 05:25 PM by Mockingbird

Dark Ascension previews start in the morning, and that's exciting enough to get even the most negligent blogger to dust off his blog. And what better way to kick off DKA preview season than by looking at the one card that they already revealed:

Faithless Looting r
Sorcery
Draw two cards, then discard two cards.

Mockingbird Reviews Hero of Bladehold and Inferno Titan

Posted 11-28-2011 at 12:15 AM by Mockingbird

So tonight I wrap up my reviews of the cards that made the to the top 8 in Standard, and in preparation, I actually went back and watched the final match between RG Wolf Run Ramp and GW Township Tokens. And that match was an epic battle of two geniuses using their best wits and their most powerful wits and creatures against each other. And the result was a land slide victory for Japan because the two creatures facing each other were Hero of Bladehold and Inferno Titan. One of these is built to...

Mockingbird Reviews Galvanic Blast and Gut Shot

Posted 11-25-2011 at 11:57 PM by Mockingbird

So continuing down this road of card reviews, one may be wondering what is the motivation of cards that I've been picking for this penitence of neglecting my blog. We'll, that's pretty easy, I've been talking about cards that made it all the way to the top 8 in the World Championship this past weekend. Those cards proved themselves to be the best cards in the world and that every other card in the Standard Format is crap. However, as decisive as that divide is, the one thing that players will be...
