If evasion is your concern than Glaring Spotlight is the obvious winner between the two. Not only is unblockable pretty much a guaranteed hit, it gives all your creatures HEXPROOF as well; this means you can crack it defensively too. For your purposes, piercing hexproof is just a nice side effect.

Also as others have mentioned, Trinket Mage, 1CMC Matters cycle, also Metalcraft and Affinity cards etc.

My first accidental combo was with a grimgrin!

It was before Gravecrawler was out.
Grim-Grin, Corpse Born + Rooftop Storm + Havengul Lich + Rooftop Storm + Pawn of Ulamog + Diregraf Captain + Abattoir Ghoul(although any would have worked as the looping zombie.

Sac Ab Ghoul to GG, trigger Diregraf, trigger pawn. Get an eldrazi spawn. Sac eldrazi spawn to get 1, use that mana for Havengul Lich, to recast ghoul, which costed 0, rinse and repeat.

It was super wonky and fun Smile

GrimGrin often draws ire due to how easy he is to combo with just for being an abusable sac engine, but I love playing against them personally. Knowing it's going to be a challenge from the starting gate often is all you need.

My take on it is simply this.
    I dislike cheesy two-card-combo wins.

It's really disheartening to play a good game, only for someone to get Tooth and Nail or whatever, drop Mikaeus, The Unhallowed and Triskellion, for example, and just say "I win." Now, you could argue that that is a three card combo, but the same principle works with just Mike+Trike and 12 mana. I find that it just disrupts the game flow, and often ends otherwise really good games too early.

If you have a multi-part combo, then by all means bring it on. I believe most decks SHOULD run at least one combo, for two reasons.
    1. Magic should not be four people playing solitaire at the same table. Disrupting combos is even more fun than playing them in my opinion. It encourages interactivity between players, which is when EDH really shines. You're not going to see the same kind of wacky interactions anywhere else, after all.
    2. Having a way out of a really long game is nice. We've all had games where it slogged on for multiple hours when it really should not have, and at some point you will hit the critical mass to which everyone agrees "Yeah lets move on to the next one." but everyone is too proud or stubborn to admit it, at which point combo is welcome.

As with any meta, it's important to always encourage the other players to run answers rather than homebrew up your own personal banlist.

When I look to put combos in a deck, I look for a few things. If I'm going to use a combo, where ultimately getting it online means I win, I like it to fit at least one of the following conditions.

1.It's Foreshadowed. My Sedris deck uses the Worldgorger Dragon loop, but it's telecasted in that it's normally pretty obvious I'm going for it. I use the dragon for unearth shenanigans mostly, but it simply being in my graveyard is normally enough to keep my friends on their toes enough to have the foresight to start planning for the inevitable.

2.It's got a lot of parts. My Dakkon Landramp deck has a four-part combo in it using Oboro, Palace in the Clouds+Walking Atlas+Retreat to Hagra+Retreat to Coralhelm. I use all four cards as strong options for the deck, that just happened to combo. It's hard to get all four parts in the first place, and it's pretty easily disrupted, so I don't feel bad about it.

3.You really have to stretch for it My Azami wizard-tribal deck has no easy infinite combos that I'm aware of, but it definite hits durdle-wombo status eventually. We're talking Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx+Intruder Alarm+Walking Atlas+Sapphire Medallion+Helm of Awakening+Archaeomancer+Venser, Shaper Savant+Words of Wind+Evacuation level janky. This kind of combo is by far my favorite, and it's the most impressive to see. There's lots of moving parts, and it's flat impressive to see or pilot.

One thing you may notice between the three examples above is that all of them are combos built out of cards that would already be good in their respective decks (Even Worldgorger Dragon I use in Sedris as a post-combat Unearth to keep my unearthed army, untap them all, and untap all my lands for instants with). I think it's very important to not run cards simply because theyre part of a win-combo, otherwise you wind up with dead draws very easily.

I'm no moderator but I think it's important that we don't turn this into a competitive vs casual discussion, nor the ethics behind infinite combo.

As others have said, control fits the bill the best, but I think the type of control used should be looked at. One of my friends plays incredibly reactively but almost never uses direct spot removal or counterspells. Instead, he's running cards like

    -Cremate to "counter" graveyard cards
-Blossoming Defense to stop targeting effects
-Boros Fury Shield to redirect damage
-Sadistic Sacrament effects to proactively get rid of combo cards before they can become a problem
    and so forth.

These are very strong options that offer defensive options for yourself, or to aide another player, which gives you the power to be very political while still remaining a threat to be dealt with, but when push comes to shove all of them offer a huge line of defense for your own strategies.

Azami, Lady of Scrolls, but she has a stigma of being a hard control-combo deck, but most reasonable metas apply pressure based on how the deck is built. My deck, for example, is far from combo/control. I run about 40 wizards, a bunch of wacky bounce stuff, and stuff like Day of the Dragons as wincons, so it's rare that I actually get a lot of heat early.

One advantage out of building Mono-U Wizards as opposed to an Azami deck is it takes the focus off the commander. I rarely play Azami turn 5, since normally I have many wizards to play already and don't need the extra cards right away. This also opened up the ability to change the commander on the fly if I feel like it. Swapping out for Venser, Shaper Savant or Jalira, Master Polymorphist offers fun new strategies for the deck to keep it fresh.

Being monoblue gets you access to a lot of neat wizards that are difficult to use in multicolor, such as Master of Waves, or Rimewind Taskmage/Heidar, Rimewind Master if you're using snow lands. You can also other mono-U stuff like Vedalken Shackles as well.

As always for the set review we will only be covering U, B, UB and of course colorless cards and lands, the only ones relevant for the deck. Again, not all of the cards in the set will be listed, just the ones relevant to the deck or honorable mentions. Expected inclusions will be bold.

    UBLUEU

    -Abbarant Researcher
While a very cool Delver of Secrets esque card, and very powerful, I don't have enough instants or sorceries to really take advantage, and really have no need for it to begin with. Honestly, I just love the card because it's a kraken. I love me some krakens.

    -Engulf the Shore
It was never an intention to have most of my creatures have big butts, it jut seems to be what UB mill does. I don't run a ton of islands, and I'm certain it's less than 8, so Wrexial, the Risen Deep would always brave that storm. Still, I don't know that I'd use it. As it is I'm toying with taking Cyclonic Rift out.

    -Epiphany at the Drownyard
THIS CARD IS SO COOL. However, I don't run nearly as much recursion as I used to making Fact or Fiction effects much weaker. It will be going in my sedris deck for sure (one day I'll update Sedris' deck list. one day.) Plus, this is more of a Steam Augury than a FoF anyway, which is already worse (but still good.)

    -Fleeting Memory
Although a mill card, and potentially good if you have a lot of investigate, I don't think I will have much use for it. Investigate seems like gravy for white and red who need any draw they can get, but I'm not struggling and doubt I'll have many clues.

    -Forgotton Creation
If only it said each player; Either way, it's really cool. Probably wont use it.

    -Manic Scribe
Although at first, not appearing that impressive, he's a turn 2, 0/3 body that hits at minimum 9 cards in a 4 player game, almost putting it on par with Glimpse the Unthinkable (a card I don't run because it's single target, but this spreads the love) and potentially better in a larger game. Once Delirium is online, it puts it on par often with Dreamborn Muse, which is already one of my star players. Any consistent grinding mill like this is exactly what I'm looking for. We need mill that hits and keeps hitting everyone.

    -STARTLED AWAKE
IN ADDITION to being perfect for the deck, it's just so damn cool. It's kind of like Archive Trap, but eventually becomes a 1/1 skulker, then you get to do it again. it's wonky, but effective, and can really do work once the game boils down to 1v1. I'm super excited for it.

    Vessel of Paramensia
I'm pretty sure this is just for standard to get to dementia faster. It's not powerful or anything, but it's mill and deserved a mention. If you're really having trouble getting dementia, go for it.

    BBlackB

    -Behold the Beyond
This card is also really cool, and again may find home in my Sedris deck. rarely do I need specific cards, normally just more cards. The CMC of my deck is low so burning out can be an issue in the later game. While late game on a dead hand this would be an amazing topdeck, I'd just the same rather have a Concentrate, so I'm afriad I'll have to pass.

    -Ever After
Another really cool card I'm glad exists, but I don't know that I need it

    -Liliana's Indignation
I'm not really worried about self mill, or getting zombies.

    -Shamble Back
Decent grave hate, but if I get to the point where I need 1CMC instant grave hate like that, Cremate has it booked.

    -Sinister Concoction
This card is so damn wonky I had to mention it. The colon isn't even until the third to last word.

    -To the Slaughter
I'm glad to see a "Sacrifice a planeswalker" starting to be a thing. We've got so many damn planeswalkers around having easy access to defeating them has been a welcome change.

    -Triskaidekaphobia
Another really neat flavorful card with no place in my deck. I swear eventually I'll just make a UB-coolstuff deck.

    UBMulti, Artifacts, and LandsUB

    -Prized Amalgam
neat. Not too much use for it though.

    -Brain in a Jar
Again, Neat. Not much use for it.

    -Corrupted Graftstone
Although it may seem like an easy inclusion, it's still deterring that it comes in tapped. I'd perfer Talisman of Dominance or Dimir Signet any day.

    -Haunted Cloak
This could very well see play eventually in Lightning Greaves place. I like having vigilance since my only attackers often have big butts and make great blockers. the trample works well withS Szadek as well.

    -Shard of Broken Glass
If only it was your or an opponents library. So close.

    -Choked Estuary
Probably worth running. I've got so many good UB nonbasics I don't know if I need more, but they'll probably be cheap and worth running.

    -Drownyard Temple
It's like Ramp I didn't need! I'm not sure it'll make the final cut, but it makes sense and if your landbase isnt as streamlined, this would be a great utility card.

I have been toying with the deck a lot lately-- so much that I haven't wanted to make any official changes to the decklist just yet. But, there is a lot of cards moving around and it has been working better than ever.

For the most part, I don't particularly care for this card just because like many others have said, it's just going to be 7 mana, put your combo in your hand to win with.

However, for other applications, its pretty neat.

For example, on a dead hand it's about the best topdeck you could hope for. In my Sedris deck I may use it just because its "pitch your hand, get 3 reanimate spells" for 7, which is pretty steep for my deck but I run a lot of rituals, so getting this off turn 4 or 5 could be pretty backbreaking, even though its not a combo deck.

Honestly, OGW is probably one of the most disappointing sets I've seen since I've started playing. Next to Dimensional Infiltrator, pretty much nothing fits for the deck, and even then it's lackluster at best. The bounce effect does pretty much nothing to help.

The other three are cool, and Mindmelter is exceptionally cool but doesn't really offer any help in mill. Siren of the Silent Song offers both mill and discard, and to a wider range of players, for much less mana.

Even my Esper Landfall deck saw nothing that was even of remote use from OGW. I think this was just a set made for the most part to be a pretty blah set so they can justify making Expeditions for pretty much every good land ever made barring ABUs.

Black's house answer to enchantments and artifacts is normally discard. Something like Thoughtseize can remove the problem before it is a problem. The best ones are all 1cmc, but there are some good ones for 2 or so. Also, extract cards like Sadistic Sacrament and Praetor's Grasp can get it out of thier deck before they even see it.

    How has playing been? On paper, it looks like the creature curve is exceptionally high; The way it is, you're going to have a very hard time staving off opposing threats without a board to really back on;

The high curve isn't too much of an issue, but I'd definitely consider more artifact ramp or reanimation / just ways to cheat your fatties into the board. Even rituals like Dark Ritual and Cabal Ritual are great. One of my favorites is Energy Tap, a card no one seems to know about.

Reanimation especially goes well with Tasigur himself, so consider it for a sub theme. The best ones to just splash in both money and value wise is Necromancy, Reanimate, Animate Dead and Beacon of Unrest. Stitch Together would also be good with Tasigur since you'll probably always have threshold.

Seems like a pretty interesting list. It's always good to see another mill player not taking the obvious Phenax, God of Deception route.

I highly recommend Sadistic Sacrament for Mirko especially. EDH games tend to run long, and SadSac can really seal the deal with a player, taking their lands then flipping the rest over with mirko. The same could be done with Mind Funeral or Mind Grind. If you're swamp heavy, Nightmare Incursion can do the same thing. Both are great on their own even without using Mirko, though they are mean cards and can draw some heat. Really sticks it to combo players though!

Glad to hear it's been working out. I've been trying to find room for Blue Sun's Zenith because it also offers a killshot once someone's library gets low enough as well as a manadump for draw. In an emergency if you mill yourself out you can cast it for 0 each turn to put it on top also.

Overall it looks like a lot of great changes. How's 40 lands been working? I use 36 and haven't had too much issue. Are you flooded at all?

I haven't gotten one yet, but I'm probably going to try Siren of the Silent Song in place of Crosstown Courier. The courier has been one of the weaker cards in the deck as of late, and the Siren offers both flying, just as much mill assuming it's at least a 3 player game, and discard, making it quite potent. This coupled with Phenax, God of Deception could be awesome.

What is your meta like? Is there a lot of graveyard shenanigans or is everyone pretty much not using it? I strongly suggest getting Tormod's Crypt and Nihil Spellbomb as they help a lot in stopping others from making advantage out of your strategy.

First off, thanks for reading the primer and moreso for coming to ask for some help.

One thing to know, mill is still a very bad win condition in EDH, especially for multiplayer. There has been a LOT of support added over the past few years to aide this, but I still wouldn't call it viable in any competitive meta. That's personally the reason I like playing Mill, because it is probably the hardest deckbuilding challenge you can do.

Now, with my Wrexial, I try my damndest not to kill with damage and really try to make sure it's mill that is the final cause of deck. The way your deck seems it does seem to take quite a bit of things, which is fine. Taking other people's things and beating their face in with them is both satisfactory and fun; My roommate has a Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge deck which literally has no card in the deck that doesn't copy or steal someone elses things, save for a few haste outlets, and it is a blast to both play and play against. It's always a fun matchup because if you're bringing a mill deck to the table against her, she can also play mill. Playing minotaur tribal? well, she is now too. It's an excellent deck archetype because it will never play the same two games in a row, offering insane replay value. For a long time, this was my only deck and I never really got bored of it, but again, you have to find what balance is right for you.

For the most part, everything looks pretty solid, and would probably work well for multiplayer even without tweaking. It seems you're *very* control heavy, which is fine, but even with that there is a few cards I'd definitely change

Lighthouse Chronologist - This card is a death sentence and will draw the entire table against you unquestionably.
Guile - another hatebear that no one likes to see. It's a powerful card but I don't think you have quite enough counters to really take the advantage of it you'd need.
Sage of Epityr - I love the guy but he's kind of bad to topdeck late game. Something like Raven Familiar at least puts cards directly in your hand with a flying body. With as many cantrips as you have, you shouldn't need this guy.
Skirsdag High Priest - He's great but I don't see very many ways in your deck to really trigger off morbid reliably, making him considerably weaker.

and maybe a one or two of your cantrips. You have quite a lot, and they are helpful, but you don't want to be cantripping into cantrips. It's not storm, so it's wasting card slots that could otherwise affect the board state. You could use a board wipe or two. Damnation is excellent if you have access to it, but otherwise Life's Finale and Whelming Wave have been two of my favorites for the deck for a while now, and both are less than 1$. Every EDH deck should have at least one board wipe.

Can't wait to hear back; It's always exciting to see someone else interested in playing mill.

I knew about Corpse Augur but must have missed Dread Summons. That card is pretty perfect for that. The zombies also will still work with Undead Alchemist

The courier I can agree with. Having the cheap value creatures is very helpful, but I've found that Merfolk Mesmerist has been my favorite of them, just offering consistency.

Will definitely grab a Dread Summons soon.
