Fuse cards will most likely just have "Fuse" as a part of each halves rules text. They act as the old split cards such as Boom // Bust except they have an added ability that each can be played. I doubt any patches would really be required unless you want to detect Fuse and assign a boolean value to show a split card is that.

On another note, it would be awesome if in the 3.8 update (or some future update) you would shift to using the official set codes. Wikipedia has a good list of them. The official list of older set codes comes from the internal list when it was published in an Ask Wizards column.

The main drawback of using the official list is that you cannot have a folder called "CON" in windows. So if you have cardscans separated into folders by set codes, well, you're mostly screwed. There's ways around it, but it's a hassle.

  • posted a message on First FNM ever, after 8 year hiatus!
    Hello everyone,
Recently I've gotten myself back into playing M:TG, and decided tonight was the night I was going to go out and hit a FNM. I stopped playing in late 2004, so it's been a long time since I've had to build any deck, let alone in any kind of a draft.
Some further background... about three weeks ago my brother-in-law gave me a bunch of M13 and RTR cards, as he did not want them. He said "build a deck and we'll play", basically. Well, I organized the cards, put them in sleeves, built a couple of decks, and set them aside for the most part. Went to a friend's house two tuesday's ago and played there with a deck I had made, and while I had fun, I lost every game I was involved in (every game was basically 5 people at the table, in a free-for-all, everything goes type play).
Since then I've bought a few more cards, threw together some other decks (for very casual play with friends/family) and decided I wanted to get more invloved in M:TG again. When I quit, I don't recall FNM even being a "thing" you could attend, though it may have been. I grew up in a very rural area, where the closest game store was over 25 miles away (about a 35 min drive), so I didn't pay much attention to it if it did exist. Just mostly played with some friends.
Anyway, a friend-of-a-friend owns a game store near me, so I thought I'd head on down to dive straight in and see how much I suck now. It was a sealed deck format (I believe, right? Buy 6 booster packs and build a deck from that). I took more than the 25 minutes allotted to build my deck, but there were only 3 other players, so everyone was cool with it. I finally settled on a Red/White with a splash of Black deck. I was fairly confident in it, as it had good "test" draws and a good mixture of removal and creatures. One major thing I was lacking was evasion, though I only had three total evasion cards in the packs I opened, none of which I could fit into my deck reasonably.
Anyway, I tossed together the deck and played the three matches with it. Ended up going 1-2, which honestly was better than I had expected going in.
I had a lot of fun, and looking back at the deck I built and the cards I opened, I should've done a fair amount differently. But that's why we play, right? To learn. I'll be going back in the next week and will continue to play, learn, and evolve.
That's my story for now. Just wanted to post it and say how good it feels to be a mage again!

Chaudakh - I will do a fresh install either later today or tomorrow. I'm assuming I need to download a new Gamepack installer, correct? I will let you know my results then. Thank you for taking a look at this!

    Edit:
I went ahead and re-downloaded The Vault and Gamepack installers. I did an uninstall on my laptop, then manually removed the \Program Files (x86)\The Vault folder. After that, reinstalled and yes! It seems work OK now. Both collections are opening as normal now.

One question - any plans to do an import from MTG Studio? Smile

From looking at it, the main reason you don't see any apps able to import from TCGP is that TCGP doesn't make it friendly, at all, to do so. They're running completely on ASPX, so no easy way to parse data in the middle. About the best that could be possible would be to pull the resultant HTML and extract info from that. That'd be pretty difficult to manage Slant

Does TCGPlayer have any kind of export function? Export to XML, CSV or similar?

For section 9, I believe the intent is more geared towards site rips - ones that pull actual HTML, CSS and PHP from the site.
Section 8 is fine for you, since you are non-commercial. The data mining part is not applicable to your application (different kind of data mining intent there)
Section 7 basically grants you access to all the data to do most reasonable things with it, including making a copy of it. The "unreasonable" part is vague, intentionally, but not something you'd have to worry about. Even 1000 people using GEX wouldn't put a significant load on WotC servers.

I sent you a private message with details on accessing a server I setup for you. Also, one thing I noticed... when I first install the program, sorters may in fact all be set to "none". But when I open the collection it seems that they get set to "color" and "alphabetical". If I close the collection, set both to "none", then re-open the collection, they STAY set to "none" (but the collection is still not loading fully). On the server I setup for you, I did a brand new install of everything (operating system down to The Vault). When I opened The Vault, I left it in the half-screen mode, then opened the collection, and saw the sorters were set to Color and Alphabetical. Now that I've set them to "none", they seem to always be on "none", unless I go back and change them.

If it shows 0/0, it means the loading of the collection is partial, because it encountered an error. but for performance reason, no tests are done (compilation option) and no error is thrown to the user.

For your information, when a collection is loaded:
First it populates the comprehensive data grid view
then it populates the scan view and sections are created in this process (sections cards are created, and section lines are added in the data grid view)
Finally it updates the statistics and counts cards.

I think you have the complete data grid view (grid view) but partial scan view, and not updated statistics (I mean mini-stats counting cards).

Accordingly, your problem is not creating collections or saving them. The last collection you sent me was not corrupted at all.
The problem occur when you open them and rebuild the sections (correlated with the first sorter selected). Hence the problem is linked with the section building.

As I can load it without problems on my brand install, you should be able to do the same on a brand install. What you can try is reinstall the software in another folder and retry loading the collection. Please make sure before that you have no sorter selected. If you have issues, we definitely need to find why. There is a bug in one subroutine and It must not be left unfixed. You are probably not the only one to encounter the problem. It's from your help that the software will be more stable in further versions.

    I definitely need your help.

The weird thing is this - I do a brand new install (just re-installed it on this machine) and when I open the app, there's no sorters present. 1, 2, 3, 4 all show "none". When I open my collection, it shows sorter 1 as "Color" and sorter 2 as "Alphabetical". I don't know why/how, but those settings are being stored somewhere. It makes sense that maybe they're the cause of the problem, but I'm unsure how else I can help. I double checked and the Settings folder is empty - no config files present. For testing, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Web Components and that did nothing to help. I can start a brand new virtual machine and get the problem, and get you access to it if you'd like to directly troubleshoot the issue? I can open it up so you can RDP to it, though we'd have to discuss those details over private message. Let me know.

I think I'm giving up on this software sadly. It's awesome when it works, but I'm already having trouble with another brand-new collection I just started yesterday. I had almost 400 cards entered and saved for the night. I re-opened it and the counters are showing 0/0, and a whole bunch of cards that I entered are missing, and the totals are showing 0 and 0 again. For example... The Vault doesn't show Chapel Geist in the collection. If I open the TVC file in notepad, I can clearly see two entries for Chapel Geist. When I have it open, and change any sort option (all sort options are "none" right now, as this is a brand new install so far), I get the same -1 error I've posted above. It seems that there is something wrong with open/read function, or maybe save function. I'm not sure which, and can't keep wasting hours trying to figure it out.
I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for new versions and will test them as they come out, but for now, this just isn't stable enough for me to commit to.

To find the bug, you need to reproduce it from the original install. By default there are no sorters for collections. Make sure you don't have any files in ./Magic the Gathering/data/settings.
Try to load the collection. Does it work ?
Now close the collection, and try to make the minimal number of moves to reproduce the bug. Setting the first sorter to Alphabetical for example and reload the collection.

From the original install, your collection is loaded perfectly on my computer, as well as on the other install full of custom settings :

Here are my steps to re-produce. This is on a brand new install, on a brand new virtual machine running Windows Vista.
    1) Install .NET 4.1
    2) Install Office web Components 11
    3) Install The Vault
    4) Install Gamepack
    5) Open The Vault
    6) Select File > Open, then open my TVC
    - at this point I see no sort options set, and only 73 cards loaded
    7) Change Sort 1 to anything (color, set, alphabetic are ones I tried), and get error I posted above.

I have verified that the Settings folder is 100% empty as well.

One thing I also noticed... I opened the set, and if I edit a card (change qty), I get the same error. I can click "continue" on the error though and it seems to process the change. However, if I save the TVC and attempt to re-open it, I get a "The deck format is invalid!" error message.

Since the collection appears to open fine on your end, I can only assume that it is something on my computers causing this, but what I'm not sure.

Unfortunately, I can not reproduce the bug at home. Your file is completely safe. Are you sure you are using 0.5b ?

Yup. The splash screen shows "The Vault 0.v5b" on the bottom left corner. When I go to the ? and into About, it shows 0.5b there as well with (Mar 2013).
Would it be possible for you to re-save the collection and send it to me?

For giggles, I spun up a virtual machine running Vista. I did a complete install of all requirements and The Vault. I tried to load my collection there and it also only has the 73 lands, with counters showing 0. When I change sort, I get the same error.

    Selta,
the file seems correct. A problem seems to occur when opening collection. Mzy you please tell me what sorter you are using and which language for alphabetical sorting?

In addition, may you please do the following test: Please go to /magic the gathering/data/settings. Create a new folder named temp_save and cut paste all the cfg files into it. You'll get all the default settings when running The Vault. Run The Vault and try to open the collection. Does it work?
You can restore all your settings by cut paste all the cfg files from temp_save back to settings.

I am using two sorts. Sort 1 is set to "color", Sort 2 is set to "alphabetical". Sort 3 and 4 are set to none. All of my language settings are set to English. I do currently have a Japanese card in this collection, and will have Chinese ones as well once it's done. I wonder if it's the mixed languages?

I did the test as requested. I moved the files from the settings folder, opened The Vault and tried to open the collection. However, no change. The totals at the top still show zeros, and the only cards that show in the collection are the Land cards I entered last night - 73 of them. Slant
I did a further test, and tried changing the sort 2. I tried to change it from "alphabetical" to "none" and got the same exception error as before; "There is no row at position -1". Here's more details for you:

chaudakh - I actually had some free time tonight to start, so I entered between 550 and 600 cards into a new collection. I was saving periodically as I was working, and made sure to save prior to exiting. I exited The Vault and went back in, and re-opened the new collection. When I did, I only had a small handful of cards and the totals were showing 0 again. I opened the XML in notepad and it looks like most (if not all) of my entries are still there, the file just got corrupted somehow along the way.
Here's a copy of the collection:
    http://resting-blade.com/cny_4k.zip

I hope it'd be possible for you to "fix" it and send it to me somehow. I have about 90 minutes into that collection and would rather not lose that time if possible :p

I did not get any errors or anything during use. Simply started a brand new collection, entered a bunch of cards (was saving periodically) and went to re-open and noticed most cards are missing.

Sounds good to me. I will definitely keep you up to date with anything I find. For my next set of cards I'm entering (roughly 4000) I'll be starting a new collection, and then just adding the two collections together. You'll definitely hear from me if there are any issues, though at this point I'm finding it hard to place blame on the program.
