Upping the creature count unfortunately isn't very effective against the U/W in my meta because the rest of their deck besides Leyline is just creature removal. Trying to beat them with creatures means getting past Omens/Spellskite/Tumble Magnet/Condemn/Day of Judgment and then Purge post sideboard, which is extremely difficult to do. Hero helps, but a Tumble Magnet certainly ruins that plan. The deck loses a lot of its chance at winning when it can't burn and attack. I really think RDW needs a legitimate out against Leyline. I still haven't gotten the opportunity to try War Priest of Thune, but I'm still planning to give it a go. The Arid Mesas are already in the deck and I'm gonna side 3 Plains for it. I'll definitely acknowledge that 6 sideboard slots is a lot (3 plains 3 War Priest), but considering he hits Oblivion Ring too, I think he's worth a shot.
I'm also having big problems against Sanctity. I lost two matches on Friday to it and it was terribly frustrating. Ratchet Bomb is a totally unacceptable answer. I'm splashing white out of the side tonight and I'm gonna see if War Priest of Thune works as an answer + bear. Wish me luck.
Ran the deck like this tonight, went 3-1 and then lost in top 8.
Round 1 vs. U/W Mass Polymorph (2-1 WIN)
Round 2 vs. G/U Mass Polymorph (2-0 WIN)
Round 3 vs. RDW (1-2 LOSS)
Round 4 vs. Artifact Aggro (2-0 WIN)
Top 8 vs. Mono green Infect (1-2 LOSS)
Unnatural Predation did work out pretty well most of the time tonight. I lost in the mirror mulling all three games, and game 3 he just top decked gold every turn while I drew land. Played against decks that don't represent overall meta very well at all, and the one relevant deck I did play (RDW) I lost to. So overall, after writing it all out, I'm not very impressed with my performance tonight.
Ran this at a PTQ and went 4-3. Had some really bad draws in the first few matches, and had to mull at least one game every match. Also was on the draw most of the time, which really hurts this deck is well. I finally started getting some good hands towards the end.
Round 1 vs. Elves (1-2 LOSS)
Round 2 vs. Elves (2-1 WIN)
Round 3 vs. Caw Blade (1-2 LOSS)
Round 4 vs. U/G Fauna Shaman/Frost Titan (0-2 LOSS)
Round 5 vs. R/U Splinter Twin Combo (2-0 WIN)
Round 6 vs. U/B Tezz/Architect Infect (2-1 WIN)
Round 7 vs. Naya (2-0 WIN) (Match won in six minutes!)
Inkmoth won a lot of the games today and I did not land nearly as many first turn Glistener Elves as I was hoping for at the beginning of the tournament. I still think the deck is really powerful, and I just wish I had gotten better draws early on. Apostle's Blessing out of side was usually pretty amazing, and definitely a game breaker against Elves. Vines of Vastwood is a must as it not only negates removal and boosts your guy, but additionally can be played on Exarch to stop Splinter Twin combo. I lived the dream one game when Unnatural Predation was brought in out of side and played on a blocked Ichorclaw Myr FTW. I had fun and will probably be continuing to run this for a while.
Ran this at FNM yesterday and went 3-1, made it to top 8 and lost in top 4. I love the way this deck plays. It's super fast, and has possible wins on turn 2, with probable wins on turn 3. Obviously the biggest threats to this deck are Spellskite first and foremost, and then Mental Misstep. Nature's Claim and Dismember are maindeck to deal with that. Dismember is an amazing card in this deck.
If you have traditional U/W control in your meta, Spikeshot is amazing. I won the game day yesterday beating my worst matchup because of a one-of Spikeshot.
I think Condemn might be one of the best pieces of removal against us (allowing to take out both our turn one Lynx or Guide), and also Tumble Magnet with a Wall of Omens on the board can make our ground units crippled. However, both of those solid pieces of removal essentially do nothing against Spikeshot (If I know my opponent runs Condemns, I'm not going to attack in with Spikeshot), and I think he's a great one-of maindeck.
Shwiggy...just update us with results if you feel like your matches are stronger at FNMs and tourneys without the Geopede.
I consistently top 8 with Geopedes in, and tend to lose to traditional U/W matchups later. I'm still working on how to win those matches, but I don't think taking out a cheap, huge beater is the answer.
I haven't played SoF&F because I don't really see it as being valuable enough to the gameplan. I saw a list running one SoB&M main and one side and that looked like an interesting idea. My meta has a complete lack of Vamps and U/B now (it's all CawBlade, traditional U/W, and Kred) and none of those decks care about SoF&F more than SoB&M
I have to agree with the majority here. You have to think of Steppe Lynx and Geopede as the core damage dealers of the deck. Steppe Lynx is our one mana 4/5 and Geopede is our two mana 5/5 first striker. Putting that much pressure on that early is crucial. It's too important to the strategy to consider cutting them.
Additionally, Geopede is a great defensive card against kred. He kills rebirth tokens, Memnites and bushwhackers all day.
I appreciate the input on it. I still would like to give it a try though. My meta is pretty diverse in its control builds Caw-Go, U/B, and just straight U/W. I've replaced Ruinblasters with Luminarchs and my SB is currently:
2x Manic Vandal
3x Luminarch Ascension
2x Kor Firewalker
3x Mark of Mutiny
4x Cunning Sparkmage
1x Basilisk Collar
I felt like Ruinblasters weren't quite doing enough for me in the control match. Koth and Oxid Ridge are a house against them, but adding 3 more 3 drops (that you want to play as a 4 drop) didn't seem like the right strategy.
I would definitely say no. The deck usually runs 10 basics (5 of each color) and 15 fetch. You have to imprint for strata scythe, which means at best you can get +4+4 and only if you have all the basics of that color out, which usually means you've got some dead fetches left in the deck. It's three to equip. It might go to a White Weenie build, but definitely not a deck with so few basics to begin with.
I've recently added this to my sideboard, but have yet to get a chance to try it against control. Does anybody have any input on how this card plays? I've been struggling against U/W control recently because of Tumble Magnet. Are there any other decks that this would board well against besides U/W and U/B control? Would Caw-Go still be ok to bring this in against?
I had trouble with U/W control on Friday. I'm thinking about putting Luminarch in the side, though I know of one player that runs a couple Into the Roils in the 75. I lost to Tumble Magnet....sad, isn't it?

If you steal a Primeval and have any of the following:
Gear
Lynx
Geopede
You should definitely win the game, and if you don't, you were too far behind before you Mark'd.
2x Manic Vandal
3x Luminarch Ascension
