I want to emphasize that the app called "Wagic" you got on the store, and the app "Wagic" linked by -Azul- above are not the same application at all, and not created by the same group of people.

"my" Wagic was released for the first time on the iPhone less than a week ago (it has, however, been available on the PSP for more than 3 years now) and requires a jailbroken device. It is not available on the appStore, and we don't have any plan to make it available on the appstore in the foreseeable future.

This is what it looks like (this is a super old beta version, the video was made more than a year ago, in particular we completely changed the gestures, double tap wasn't good at all)

Wagic will allow you to create the decks, although you wouldn't be playing both of them, the computer would be playing one of them. Give it a try if you have a jailbroken iPhone, I guess.

Apologies if this is considered spam, as I already posted in the "Magic software List" thread, but I think this is an important milestone for Wagic that deserves a bit of advertising:

Wagic is now available for Android (2.3 and higher) and iOS (jailbroken device required).

Youtube video showcasing the game running on android (this is an early alpha version from 5 months ago, taken by one of the beta testers. Note that the game by default does not ship with card images for legal reasons, but it is possible to add your own pictures)

What is Wagic?
Wagic is a heroic fantasy card game, in which you fight as a wizard against the computer. As you win battles, you unlock new game modes and earn credits that allow you to improve your army. Wagic is community driven and entirely customizable: you can create themes, mods, new rules, or even new games (check for example Knights VS Dagons on our forums, a game strongly inspired by strategy games such as warcraft). Wagic is available in several languages (English, French, German, spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Serbian), and open source. It currently runs on the Sony PSP, Windows, Linux, maemo, meego, Android, and iOS (iPhone, iPad).

For those of you who can't find any decent MTG opponent, or suffer from long commute time and need a good casual game that offers a bit more than shooting some chicken at some pigs, Wagic is for you! We support about 8700 unique cards, and the AI will give you some nice challenge as long as you don't build a killer deck from the start (which shouldn't happen unless you cheat). The possibility to create your own cards, or your own rules and your own games (check the campaigns on our forums) add a lot to the potential of the game.

What next?
This is still work in progress. Controls are a bit unintuitive for now on touch devices, and some parts of the game (especially the shop and the deck editor) still need some work to be more user friendly on touch screens, but we're a handful of fans who have been working on Wagic relentlessly for the past 4 years on the Sony PSP, were it often got compared to commercial games. This is free, and if you go past the first few games to get used to the controls, you're getting potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay for free.

If you like this game, and/or if you think you can help with some dev skills, please contact me by email wagic.the.homebrew@gmail.com and I'll give some details on how you can help. In the meantime, please enjoy this game Smile

TL,DR: Wagic is a free (and open source) solo TCG. It gained a fairly strong reputation as a PSP game, and is now available for iOS and Android.

Ive raed some things about Wagic but ti seems like that app doesnt have all the cards programmed in.

Unlike what others have said in this thread, there's an MTG App available for iOS, and as you mentioned, it's Wagic. But there are several drawbacks.

1 - You have to compile it yourself, there is no binary officially distributed (the main reason is that the guy in charge of the releases - me - doesn't own a Mac or any Apple device, the second reason is that it wouldn't be legally possible to distribute the game on the Apple appstore). If somebody's up to the task, I don't mind them distributing it. Most likely you will have to jailbreak your phone, though.

2 - If that's not stopping you (if you can find somebody nice enough to compile the game for you, it is open source: code.google.com/p/wagic/ ), it is also true that we do not support all cards, although we're getting there (about 8500 cards out of the 12'000 or so officially available).

As I've seen many times, people seem to think that supporting all MTG cards is the holy grail of MTG Simulations. But you should keep in mind that no official MTG Apps supports anything close to what Wagic supports (except MTGO which makes you pay for every single card)
Duels of the Planeswalkers supports about 300 cards AFAIK, Wagic supports more than 20 times this amount. This should help put things in perspective.

For those who haven't stopped reading, video of an early iPad demo (we've improved the controls since then) and link to the sources:

On top of that, making Magic work on iPhone is just wishful thinking. It is doable, everything is, but it would be like watching TV on a watch. What's the point?

The Wagic UI is optimized for small screens (initially it was designed for the PSP). The iPhone "touch only" type of interface is indeed a problem, but it's not "that" bad. Overall, except for elf decks with massive amounts of tokens, the game is very enjoyable on a phone (I use the android version, but I believe the iPhone 4 screen is roughly as good as recent Android phoes)
This example on android shows that it looks pretty even on a phone screen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0CWaaY-c7E (the end of the video shows the touch interface...less convenient but still good Smile )

Important note: I cannot tell you where to get the card images and graphics shown on the videos. The game, by default, supports card pictures, but does not ship with any illegal content

We reached the deadline and got 3 entries. Not much quantity, but quality is here. We've got a new mod (for those bored to play only MTG), a campaign with a great scenario (can 2 mage-mercenaries save a Kingdom?), and a great utility (unlock sets easily).

give them a try and tell me which one deserves the 100$ prize Smile

Yes, it is fairly new. A few months ago a group of hackers discovered some serious security issues on the PS3, and one thing leading to another, it gave the possibility for independent devs like us to create apps that work as good as official games on the PSP

Thanks!

By the way, slightly off topic, but the PSP version of Wagic does not require a cracked psp to run, it runs on non modded psp, and installing it just requires to extract the game's zip file on your memory stick Wink

Wagic is a (free and open source) card game that runs on the PSP, Windows, Linux, and the Nokia N900. Wagic's core is an MTG simulation with rules enforcement against an AI, it currently supports a bit more than 8000 cards, up to M12.

But Wagic is much more than that. It is also a card engine that allows people to create their own cards with a simple text editor, as well as creating their own rules and campaigns.

Because this aspect of Wagic deserves more love, I started a small contest over at the Wagic forums. The best mod/campaign for Wagic will receive a prize of 100$ in cash.

For those of you who are interested in creating their own card game, this is also an opportunity to get in touch with us (Wagic's dev team). We are progressively making Wagic more generic (it is already possible with Wagic to create games that have nothing in common with MTG, some examples can be found on our forums), and are interested to hear what people want from a card engine.

More info and join the contest here
Looking forward to see what you guys can come up with Smile

Hello, Wagic was updated today to version 0.16. Number of supported cards seems to be a good indicator of the progress...we are now at 8150, including a good amount of cards from New Phyrexia and M12

Purpose: Create your Decks, battle against the AI, and earn credits to get more cards. Supports more than 8150 cards as of 2011/07, also has several alternate game modes (Momir Basic, Hermit Druid,...) and allows players to create their own mods, rules, and scenarios. The main difference with other such programs is that it runs on your PSP too, so you can play on the go. It is also easy to add your own cards with a simple text editor.

Wow, thanks for the reply, an MSE template would be awesome!

Regarding your questions:

1)Basic lands:
here's an example for a forest:
text={T}: Add {G} to your mana pool.
auto={T}: Add {G}
id=129559
name=Forest
rarity=L
type=Basic Land
subtype=Forest
split, flips, and planeswalkers are not handled yet in Wagic

2) Tokens and rule tip cards are not included and will never be. Tokens are generated from abilities and therefore are defined by the abilities that create them, so they are not explicitely defined as part of a set

3) Rarities:
The rartiy line is written
rarity=X
where X is

L for lands
C for commons
U for uncommons
R for Rares
M for mythic rares

other rarities are not handled

Mana
Mana and costs are usually simple:
{1}[B}[B} means 1 uncolored and 2 blacks.
{1} for uncolored (can be {2}, {3},...)
{B} for black
{G} for Green
{U} for blue
{R} for Red
{W} for White
{T} for Tap
{S} for Sacrifice
{X} for X
{RW} for hybrid Red White
{UB} for Hybrid Blue Black
{2U} for Hybrid 2 uncolored one blue
[...]

Snow Mana is not handled. Tapping another card as a cost is not handled yet. Sacrificing another creature as a card is not supported enough so I won't go into details here.

The full documentation is here:
http://wololo.net/wagic/create-your-own-cards/
As most documentations, it is a bit outdated, but nothing serious.

People who create sets for Wagic usually prefer to rely on existing sets, which is also a good opportunity to answer your first request. Existing sets can be found at:
http://code.google.com/p/wagic/source/browse/trunk/projects/mtg/bin/Res/sets/
Click on each set name on the left, then you can display _cards.dat which is the set itself. todo.dat has the exact same format, and contains cards from the set that cannot be handled by Wagic yet.

For example here is Zendikar:
http://wagic.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/projects/mtg/bin/Res/sets/ZEN/_cards.dat
you can replace ZEN with other 3 letters codes to see the other ones

every card is wrapped in card /card tags that I cannot write on this forum because they trigger some phpBB code here.

I've never used MSE myself (which is weird since I keep recommending it to people who ask me how to create their own sets), and I didn't know it exported a text (Now that you said it, it makes perfect sense for it to have an MWS template for example). I'll give it a try this weekend, maybe I can try to create the template myself, and ask you for help if I am stuck at some point.

Thanks! Smile

Hello. I haven't been a very active member of the MTGSalvation forums because I am spending lots of time working on my own site/game, but I do follow the "creativity" section with lots of interest Smile

You might already know about Wagic. It is an "MTG like" game which does rules enforcements and has an AI. It runs on Windows, Linux and the Sony PSP. I won't go into details here, if you want to read more about it you can go on my blog. An important point is that the game is free, open source and community driven. Below are screenshots from the game:

As a result, Wagic is highly flexible and customizable. Graphics and sounds can be easily modified, but also cards can be created with a simple text editor. And that's the main point of this post, and the reason I'm not posting in the "software" forum, but here. (I might post a Wagic dedicated thread in the software subforums if people think this is useful, though)

Recently a group of members on my forum started working on a Star Wars MOD for Wagic, involving graphics and SFX sounds. They also took the excellent Star Wars block made by Alacar Leoricar, and ported it to Wagic. With his agreement we released this mod yesterday, and it is getting good feedback already. Below are a few pictures, a video and the download link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2kKI4Zb8Lc

Download and more info here

This star wars mod is the first point of my post. The second one is that I think this mod could be the first of a series of custom sets adapted to Wagic: one problem when creating custom sets is that you might never actually play them. Printing real cards would be too expensive, and finding a player accepting to play it with you in MWS can be tricky.

Wagic is one solution to this. It is relatively easy to create a card and add it to the game:

Creating a set in Wagic only requires a text editor such as notepad, and adding cards is pretty smooth (no compilation or stuff like that required, just create a new text file, add it to the correct folder, and run the game), here is for example the code for Royal Assassin:
text={T}: Destroy target tapped creature.
id=129708
auto={T}:destroy target(creature[tapped])
name=Royal Assassin
rarity=R
type=Creature
mana={1}{B}{B}
power=1
subtype=Human Assassin
toughness=1
Full examples of sets can be found here. I strongly believe it is easy to understand.
Of course everything is not perfect, as all projects that do rules enforcement, all cards are not supported in Wagic, and some mechanics are not implemented yet. But the code base is slowly growing, and nearly 50% of the cards in the Star Wars block made it to the mod.

If you are interested to test your cutom sets and port them to Wagic, we have a growing community ready to help you with this. Some custom sets are created regularly on our forums, although I would be extremely happy to see more of the Custom cards from MTGSalvation make it into Wagic. The stuff created here looks really professional OMG

Comments and feedback on both the starwars Mod and this idea of playtesting Custom sets are really appreciated. We are a small team of developers but we do listen to people's suggestions Grin

Thanks again to Alacar Leoricar!
