So, i've been hoarding cards for this deck for a while, I'm kinda set on the G/B version, no White, Been looking at the past few pages, can't find any that really fit my taste, could anyone show me a few G/B versions of the deck that have been performing really well?
Did not do very well tonight. Felt the day was not in my favor again tonight. 2-3-1 in PPTQ.
Round 1, Abzan Company. Lost.
Round 2, Grixis Twin. Tied
Round 3, Mirror match. Company Green/Black Elves. Lost.
Round 4, Weird Brew with Death's Shadow. Lost.
Round 5, Grixis Twin. Won.
Round 6, Reanimator. Won.
Things I have noted.
-Abzan Company is very fast.
-Elvish Champion effects are "All other" elves. Did not read the latest reprint of that card.
-A Player can have a spellskite on the board and cast Death's Shadow with 18 life and activate Spellskite over and over till you can't pay without losing. Yes, you can do this. Called a judge and disputed it and he was still right.
Going to another PPTQ, Changed my list a little bit more. Keep you posted.
How is that possible with Spellskite? How can you activate it's ability when there is no spell or ability on the stack to target? I'd contact the DCI, what level was this judge?
I suppose I could use the traditional Affinity shell of cheap creatures, but what if I used Retract to sort of "reset" my board with Scuttling Doom Engine on the stack?
Obviously this is looking more and more like U/R Artifact Burn. but there's no place to discuss that deck.
Main problem of playing Scuttling Doom Engine is fact that it's just slow. You need 6 mana to cast it or 5 mana/creatures when you have Chief Enginer. With good hand you will play it turn 2 and swing turn 3 and still, this is 6 dmg, with Shrapnel Blast is 17 dmg. Not bad but we need to be realistic. In normal game you wan't have perfect hand just normal hand and cast it turn 4. In most games Scuttling Doom will be discarded/pathed, your Chief Engineer will be just bolted. Also idea of aggro deck with 6 drops that needs 1/3 dude which dies to every removal in modern is rather impossible to be competitive.
Umm, since when did "Dies to removal" become a real argument?
You're missing the point. Affinity is an AGGRO deck. How many times do I have to explain it to you people?
You people? For your information, I've been playing affinity for the better part of 5 years in legacy. Your assumption that I'm just some noob is extremely unwarranted and unwanted.
You know what, maybe I'm bored of the same kind of deck over and over again, and want to try to shake it up once in a while?
How about considering I have more than just a casual interest in the deck? K? Thanks.

The only card I'm interested in using is Scuttling Doom Engine, the ability to deal 6 on its' death makes me want to swing with it, then sac it to kill. Looking for a more agro build than the control one.
I guess I should clarify, I'm talking about Modern Affinity, or another version of it. With all of the cheap creatures available to us, we could cast Scuttling Doom Engine faster and deal lethal even faster as well.
So, I've been thinking about Standard and Modern affinity lately. What do we think about, say, Chief Engineer and Scuttling Doom Engine, combined with an early game salvo of Ensoul Artifact? I know it's pretty janky, but I'd like some other opinions than my own.
EDIT: Shrapnel Blast still exists to sacrifice explosive artifacts like the doom engine. What if we also used other artifact/creatures that dealt damage when they die?
Have you ever considered running Mana Flareand Stranglehold? Mana Flare could give us the color ramping we'd need with Mana Echoes, and Stranglehold is just a bit of combo hate tossed in with a dash of manabase hate.
What's with all the talk of new border Tron lands? Like, are you referring to the 8th/9th edition ones, or the Post M15 border? And if Post m15, where were they spoiled?
I really don't think Courser will stay as high as $20, remember, it got put into the M15 Duel/Event deck box for $30, and those have been PILING UP at walmarts everywhere. Don't expect it to stay like that.
This. No point in buying them at 17 when you can buy the clash pack for $30 with a bunch of other goodies. $15 is probably the ceiling after this all dies down
Actually, the MSRP for the clash pack is 30, but you get so much more stuff in the box, like Nykthos, 6 alt art foils, etc. Overall, a much more appealing buy at 30 over the Courser alone at 17-20.

These aren't particularly special, they'll appear in boosters, fat pack, and intro packs like regular basics.
