i figured that it HAD to be a 4/4 just to be decent, but i dreaded R&D shafting us again.... let the Happy Orzhov Jig and agressive trading at the prerelease commence
Here's a few for you to do at your leisure. Also, i haven't a clue what to use for artwork, so feel free to be creative. just use newest black and white card frames

As someone who has recently dedicated themselves solely to the WB color combination, i have to say that the Orzhov couldn't make me happier. Granted, it's not a big, flashy, you're-dead-before-you-know-what-hit-you kind of guild. It doesn't really have any "bombs." That's the point! The Orzhov kill you slowly, painfully and inextricably, hence the whole "bleeder" thing.
Personally, i can't wait for the challange of abusing the Ghost Council and Tesya
Topher, you are amazing. i am having a little trouble getting the banner into my sig. i have the pic in a photobucket account, but the whole [simg] thing isn't working.
You still don't seem to understand. we all know that a 3/3 that's been dealt 2 damage is still a 3/3. HOWEVER, it is still relevant because it means it can only take one more point of damage befor it dies.
what i'm suggesting is to treat damage to power equally. fine, a 3/3 creature with 2 damage dealt to it's power is still a 3/3, but it would only deal 1 damage that turn. and i never suggested that a creature with 0 power would die. that's obviously stupid. stop being such rule-nazis and use a little imagination, crying out loud.
alright, nevermind. i'm obviously not explaining myself well enough. forget i mentioned anything
i am aware that damage is not equivalent to -x. i honestly don't understand what's so hard to understand about dealing damage to power. it works THE EXACT SAME WAY AS DAMAGE TO TOUGHNESS.
the reason i don't just have the mechanic give -x/-x is for flavor reasons. the mechanic doesn't magically weaken the target before attacking. instead, the creature with spiritstrike attacks the targets soul, thereby weakening attacking power. first strike is tied in with the mechanic because having spiritstrike without first strike would be essentially useless
however, that is not what i mean. as near as i can figure out from your reply, when a 2/2 with spiritstrike blocks or is blocked it would become a 4/2 with first strike. is that what you mean?
it really means something more along the lines of giving the opponents creature -x/-x until end of turn where x equals the spiritstrikers power. i just feel that using it as damage instead of stat reduction is more elegant and flavorful.
Alright, it's like this: you have two creatures in combat, Spiritstriker and Enemy Creature. Spiritstriker is a 3/3. Enemy is a 5/5.
since Spiritstriker technically has first strike, it deals its damage first. since it deals damage to both power and toughness, this makes Enemy a 2/2 by the time it would deal damage to Spiritstriker. make sense now?
it works the same was as damage to toughness. for example, if creature A (a 2/2 with spiritstrike) deals damage to creature B (a 9/14), then B would be a 7/12 until the end of turn.
i had this idea for a mechanic back when Champions first came out and we were all speculating about what mechanics would be in the new sets. it's based off the japanese martial art of drawing your sword and striking in one motion. i forget what it's called...anyway, it'd look something like this
Someone the Cool-Sounding 2BB
Legendary Creature - Human Samurai
Spiritstrike ([cardname] has first strike and deals damage to both power and toughness when blocking or being blocked)
3/2
so, essentially, nothing smaller than a 5/4 or a 5/1 with first strike could touch it.
I'm new here and if you've got the time, i could really use a Sig Banner using that sweet template used for the Izzet and Orzhov banners, etc. i'd like the guild name to say "Theives of Sanity," the flavor text to be "It's hard to fight on an empty mind," Stabwhisker in the middle, my name to the right with a casting cost BB and whatever you think would be cool underneath.
