Thanks for the feedback! I remember there was a deck in Standard that used to abuse grand architect, but I didnt know it was possible to have such a deck perform well in modern.
As far as the combo goes, I have tried going into a very control heavy build, with little success and/or consistancy. With regards to the wurmcoil route, how likely is it that the deck wins whilst using its combo? I would imagine it would be like the tempo version of UR splintermite where it more often than not is able to win without ever comboing off.
And although there was a decent enough foundation for me to work up from, the deck in its current form needs an update!
Ive been out of the game for a somewhat brief hiatus so Im not particularly clued in on what the meta is like atm, but I drafted up a kind of 'core' for the deck which I think could be good for you guys to help me make this thing beautiful and smooth!
The idea of the deck is simple; play Pili and GA, make pili blue then combo for infinite mana and hurl a wincon at your opponent.
I would expect much of the rest of the deck to contain important cantrips, filters, counters etc to protect your combo, but im not sure what.
If any of you could possibly help me out with this decklist, I would be very appreciative!
I'm finding it really stompy. I don't run the hoofman, but I do run both Gisela and Aurelia. Untapping with Gisela is just ridiculous.
I find the hardest MU is just against decks which exile creatures and/or gy mainboard. Things like Detention Sphere and Oblivion Ring can really put a damper on your Thragtusk/resto Angel synergy. Although this is just game 1 where I don't have the tools to deal with their removal very well.
Who plays standard, anyway?
Sanctioned EDH tournaments, anyone?
I play Standard, but there are so many stale decks out there that I feel I have to play Frites...
We actually figured some things out yesterday. Does anybody know the pre-made Golgari event deck? It has a Thragtusk in the sideboard and a woodland cemetery mainboard. In NZ the event deck costs ~$45, and it nets you ~$55 in those cards... *sigh Wizards*
In other exciting news, I will hopefully be starting my new job soon! I'll be working like 6 extra hours and be getting paid more which means higher magic budget! Yay!
Cheat it in with a Jace, Architect of thought? Or probably an omniscience and then just drop it. Only problem though; even if you do manage to get this off; Thought Scour, mill you for 2 :L
I could see this in a Bant Battle of wits tbh, great way to draw your deck right before you dump it all and play archangel's light lol
Sure it doesn't win games in the same way as Behemoth, nor does it help you to win like Angel, but against something like zombies, just having the life gain off of thrag doesn't seem like enough.
He seems like a good card to use to stabilise after you've taken a sizeable hit from the more aggressive decks.
I side in three against anything control based, but have been having a hard time against particularly America Midrange just because of the diversity of threats.
In game 1 there are too many 2 of's to get any real value, but their sideboard will often change that against Frites i.e Bringing in more Geists or what have you.
I was toying around with some fatties to bin from sideboard today, and I tried out our big guy here.
I tried him out MD at first, and he was less than good in the control/midrange matchups, but I found that against aggro, he became quite the colourful character.
What do you guys think about maybe side boarding this dude as a one of?i.e; Rites him in and in the next couple of turns Rites Angel of Serenity, drop a Thrag or two, y'know just restabilise a bit.
I'm not sure about Modern, but in Standard if the meta is unclear, play aggro. So Tempered steel. But then again, Americontrol comes equipped to deal with aggro pretty easily, so I would stick with that.

I was perusing the net for a combo deck when I stumbled across this idea:
Grand Architect Combo

The core:
3 Pili-pala
2 Comet storm
2 Consume Spirit

Cheers guys,

I am all keen to get going with this, just send me a list guys!
Good to have you here Bro!

Sorry Koopa, we've been trying to catch each other but the difference in time zones is too much. Is there any way to drop just me and let him play on?
Edit: @DA: It's the newest clan contest, Pick two blocks, chuck in a core set and make a constructed deck out of those!
