You all should be ashamed for wrecking an otherwise fine thread. Perhaps we can reconvene when we get information about the promo card or release date.
Unlikely (Though they keep alluding to it). I don't think we've heard of a replacement series past this one though - they may finally have realized the books only sell because of the promos.
This is the last I've heard, and I work at a Diamond Retailer. I was just wondering if this was truely the end. I'd rather it not be, but I can't control it if it is the last one.
That's a shame, having a conclusion to Garruk and Liliana's conflict with adequate promos featuring the planeswalkers, or prequel comics of how the other walkers' sparks ignited, or just comics following legendary creatures we'll never see again like Thalia in case Wizards doesn't want to have a mess on their canon.
It's a shame and a waste to completely discontinue the comics with so much material to write about.

Having lots and lots of unpublished material didn't stop them from dropping the entire novel line, either, remember. And yes, it's a damn shame. But hey, this just means we fans have an opportunity to fill in the void with our own fiction. It's not all bad.
Disposable Heroes comics has this scheduled for March 27, a week from tomorrow. That's probably our best guess for now.. No card info that I know of yet.
IDW's newsletter does not have this issue scheduled to be released neither this week nor next week. I'd be surprised if it is released next week. Maybe they are ending the series, but wouldn't they at least finish the last issue?
That's not from this #4, that's from the very first series about Dack and Sifa (old copyright line on card; "P3 IDW"). The latest known promo, if I'm not mistaken, is an Ogre Arsonist (new copyright, "P11 IDW").
I sent an e-mail to IDW and got a very quick response. They have Path of Vengeance tentatively scheduled for April 17, 2013. It seems we can stop checking for the next couple weeks. Cheers.
Not really. If it weren't for the promos, the series would have been canceled a long time ago.
Picture a 2 dimensional planeswalker chasing another 2 dimensional planeswalker around, the reasoning of which was pretty flimsy to begin with, and that's literally ALL the story from 2 (or 3?) different 'series' have been so far. The story hasn't progressed at all and he's still doing the same chase he was in issue #1. Planeswalk... look cool new plane that happens to be in std right now... planeswalk .... look a plane we've been to before.... [repeat about every issue or two]
You forgot to mention the fact that the timescale is confusing (e.g. Malfegor's alive? MtG is obsessed with being "current", why would it go to the past, even from an out-of-house writer?), the titles are completely off (e.g. the FIRST mini should've been "The Spellthief", and the SECOND should've been "Path of Vengeance"), or the comic's worst quality: the fact that 90+% of the panels have inner monologue, and a large chunk of it is wasted on recapping not only the previous issue, but the recap page. The entire content of these last 11 issues could've been condensed into six or seven, if not for the mindless padding!
About any "subpar" mechanics or cards: Context is king.
If I make a templating or grammar error, let me know.
The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.

I don't disagree at all.
Its a shame something like this will get canceled and they won't try it again for 7-8 years again because they put it in the hands of bad writers and restrict the contents so severely that it's just not interesting. They write it off to "Magic players don't buy comics" instead of "wow, if we'd let a writer tell a real mtg story, these things would sell like hotcakes" (Same with the novels really...)
Just wondering: how many series are there and how many volumes are there per series? I think I have two from "Path of Vengeance" (maybe?), and I want to see if it's worthwhile (not from an entertainment standpoint, obviously...) to try to get the rest. I want them promos, dag-nabbit!

I'd prefer a modern border Cabal, because we already have a few modern border Darks.
They really really REALLY aren't.

Corrupt? Lame. Way to end the series on a big 'whoop de doo'.
Has anyone gotten their hands on it - wasn't it supposed to ship this week?
Edit: Leave it to sleaze bay to already have them for sale...
Irony - they have variant covers of all of these comics and don't include any promos..... til the last one. Makes sense to someone I guess.
Here's the variant cover:
