Hey guys so I've actually moved on from commander on to 60 card decks so I don't have any commander decks.
Anyway I've started my own gameplay channel in which I play games (Magic also)
Im prob gonna replace my shelodred with an aetherling
Is he really that good? You just throw him down and start beating face with him or what? He just doesn't really seem to fit in with the goal of the deck at all, besides being an evasive beater. He carries Swords pretty well, but you will have to reattach every time you blink him, and he's not that great as a Mimeoplasm target. I guess I just don't really see the appeal.

I use him as an evasive target for mimeo. I currently don't play any swords so the blink is great protection for him. It may be because I was so tired of seeing inkwell that has some appeal to me, but I don't consider it a pet card for the deck.
How do you feel about tooth and nail I got to mm packs and that was one of the rares. I don't have any of the usuall two creature combos but it seems to good not to run.
No just the bounce, he'll get new targets once mimeo bounces in.
Which is actually pretty handy for me, since my Mimeo deck mils pretty aggressively, so there's always the potential for something bigger and sweeter hitting a bin.
Are we going for the most competitive shell or looking for mediocre stuff?
To be honest, I would say your build is far more competitive than mine, which sounds like it is necessary based on the meta that you play in. However, for the majority of the posters here (myself included), I believe that our groups have a far less cutthroat mentality. My list is very strong in my group, so I think taking it up a notch to a fully competitive deck with combos and tons of cheap counters and stuff would result in my group asking me not to play the deck at all. My deck has developed more into an ETB based, value-over-time deck than a super explosive one. This is viable and even preferable with my group, but obviously everyone has a different group, so their mileage with different cards and strategies will vary.
--
I believe that my build is pretty darn close to the best I can make it right now with the current focus. Obviously it could use the remaining dual land and fetchland upgrades, but otherwise I am pretty happy with how it plays. So I just want to make a note to people posting their decklists, that most of my suggestions are probably going to be towards making your list more similar to mine. If you have some interesting new tech or you want to question particular card choices of mine, I would love to talk about that stuff. Oftentimes though, just seeing a decklist isn't the most constructive thing since my stock response would be something like:
"Take out the cards that aren't in my build and add the ones that are."
(I wouldn't actually say that, but it may be the end result)
As I said earlier, everyone's playgroup is different and requires different card choices, but without additional discussion of strategies or card choices it is oftentimes hard to interpret or understand there selections. I don't want to discourage people from posting their lists, but rather to encourage additional discussion about particular card choices in other people's decks. You can see (most of) my reasoning for each card in my Primer on the first page, but it would be awesome if other people wanted to do something similar with cards that aren't necessarily as commonly seen when posting their own decklists and ideas.
Can anyone offer me suggestions about what to cut from my decklist? I want to get it down to 100 cards so i can start playing with it and then see where i would like it to focus on (more etbs, more control, etc).
Hey, I checked your deck and I would do few changes. I have highlighted the major "issues".
1) Add some tutors (demonic, diabolic, whatever). If you lose the board control, you need to find sweepers, namely Oblivion Stone (I also play it and usually go for it)
2) I would cut few enchantments and/or artifacts. If you want to play sweepers like O. Stone or Pernicious Deed, you don't want to lose many of your own permanents as well.
3) Tribute to the Wild - this card may be helpful just in the early game when your opponents do not have many artifacts or enchantments. It becomes irrelevant in late game. I would replace it with Beast Within.
4) Spell Crush - similar to Rise from the Grave.
5) Rise from the Grave is incredibly expensive and spending one turn just for reanimating single creature is not what you really want to do. As you play many other reanimation spells, I would just cut it.
6) Cage Sun in tri-color deck seems quite weak.
7) I don't like Grim Backwoods. Sac outlet for 4 mana is way too much. Play High Market instead. And talking about lands, add Alchemist's Refuge - this land wins games.
8) Butcher of Malakir, Grave Pact - I used to run both of them (I bought the same precon deck as you), but these cards were consider to be boring in my playgroup and sometimes don't do enough. 1BBB in Grave Pact'S casting cost may also be a problem time by time.
By the way try to improve your manabase. You have 18 basics and few colorless sources. Add cards like Yavimaya's Coast, Reflecting Pool, City of Brass or for example Frobidden Orchard. I think the lack of colors can be issue.
edit: I've just noticed you don't run any creature-based stabilization. Try Farhaven Elf and Wood Elves. Yavimaya Elder is also pretty good.
Thanks for the advice! Thats a lot to add but what can i cut for it?
What do you guys think about Rainbow Efreet.
I really like the card and cant wait to try it in my deck.
I run something similar to the d train list with a little more emphasis on my graveyard. My meta has t really found a way to silence my graveyard quite yet. I expect it will adapt.
Anyhow, i like this card because it offers an awesome target for the mimeoplasm in the way of dodge + flying. Unlike aetherling, "phase out" doesnt technically change zones, the rest of the game treats it as not existing until your next untap step. Also priority is not given until this card phases back in AND you untap.
All by itself, its a fine card for pillow-forting and it dies to skullclamp.
Also note that it can save your swords from merciless eviction artifacts etc and is actually quite funny if someone resolves jokulhaups.
The two downsides are that it doesnt have ETB and also you must keep open 2 blue, which isnt actually that bad if you want to change modes into draw-go control.
A couple other cards for honorable mention. Cyclonic rift- it should be banned, thats how good it is. And in defense of the comments that its not as good as boomerang, i ONLY intend to overload it. Its one of the biggest single card blow outs in edh. My endgame plan often revolves around tutoring this up, overloading it, and recurring it. Grade a card, and one of my only foils, because everytime i resolve it, i win. Whim of Volrath- animar is the most cutthroat deck in my meta and this is a key way to gun him down since we already play with the new legend rule.
Imho Animar, Soul of Elements is not a FUN general. It exists only to perpetuate combo.
Turn 2 infinite mana with cloud of faeries. I've seen it happen, but usually turn 3(with consistency)
Turn 2 animar. turn 3 float mana, play a bounce land, cloud of faeries, infinity(any number of) times. Stroke of genius/blue sun's zenith, etc.
I do not believe this is the spirit of EDH, which is why I don't play hermit druid.
anyways, I don't intend to deviate a bunch. but if anyone has comments on the card selections, or on animar, and how to stop it from going completely nuts.
My thoughts is that mimeoplasm is an ooze. He/it should be able to shift and morph to become the play-style needed for any given situation. This seems to be one of the only situations that I cant deal with - insane cutthroat early game combos.
(one on one I slaughter the animar player with my edric agro-control)
Instead of Cyclonic Rift, what about Kederekt Leviathan? If you had the Mimeoplasm copy him plus a Death's Shadow, then drop and equip Lightning Greaves, you're swinging away to victory.
Also, what are people's thoughts on Tortured Existence vs. Undertaker? TE is repeatable in a single turn, but Undertaker let's you discard any card, and, if she dies, can be copied by a Necrotic Ooze.
Firstly, Edric is only banned as commander in French EDH because they finally got tired of surrendering.... but IMHO, french edh is garbo, they change the rules fundamentally, the biggest thing being if you bury a commander in its owners deck, the owner may place it in the command zone. It also has a super restrictive ban list, its basically Legacy Singleton.
Just wait until the new legend rule is in effect, im sure they will ban Uril, the miststalker, Sigarda, host of herons, Geist of Saint Traft, and/or Animar, soul of elements.
as for the deck being slow... etc, i usually have a creature or 2 out early, but they are ramp dorks, or something i got lucky enough to reanimate. i actually got out consecrated sphinx in a 5 player game today on turn 3 or 4, using exhume. it stayed alive for at least 4 rounds.
also, i dont have graveyard hate in my meta (other than the random bajuka bog, but i always tutor up elixir of immortality first, (with a feldon's canein sideboard)
Lastly, Lio, youre probably right about Rainbow Efreet, my meta simply has a lot of board wipes, (one of our best players runs Child of Alara Reanimator. I think efreet is unique that it offers this type of dodge. It blinks, but without hampering the ability of mimeoplasm. thats what the downside of aetherling was in my opinion.

So, play the best blue card in EDH or play 3 cards that arent any good on their own?
That doesnt really make sense.
IMHO mimeoplasm doesnt want or need greaves. If you need haste grab craterhoof behemoth- otherwise youre generally better off flashing in mimeoplasm in EOT for suedo haste.
Leviathan is cute, but with e wit or archaeomancer recursion getting the board to a locked down state with cyclonic rift is GG.
Whether it be through sac outlet and volraths stonghold or tortued existence.. or just riptide lab...
Also, what are people's thoughts on Tortured Existence vs. Undertaker? TE is repeatable in a single turn, but Undertaker let's you discard any card, and, if she dies, can be copied by a Necrotic Ooze.
Utility cards like that are better to have as enchantments. Unless its an ETB creature you want to abuse, but thats not undertaker.
Now if youre already running this suite and want more, undertaker wouldnt be a bad choice.
Anyone have thoughts on Scavenging Ooze? I've been thinking that we may need a piece of graveyard hate outside of Bojuka Bog, and I figured that it would be ideal to pick one that's easily tutorable, which means that Ooze and Nihil Spellbomb are two of my top options. Combining this with his upcoming reprint in M14 made me think that he could be a good card to discuss.
Also, while we're on the subject, any other M14 cards that interest people?
You need a creature like squee or Krovikan Horror to really get the most out of it.
I also run it in glissa with artifact creatures...
I'd run Phyrexian Reclamation over it though, if not both.

No need to get sassy, there is plenty of room to discuss and ask questions about other decks and how they function with x,y and z.
