Okay! I think I've got something that isn't super-OP, but would make a powerful general when used properly. It's also kind of a combination of all my favorite control-y sort of things, so it might not be terribly original... either way, I'd use it
I think it would be really unbalanced at a low-CMC, hence it costs 6 to drop, 8 the time at that, and so on.. Also, I'm bringing Shades back because that's an awesome creature type and it's high-time we have a sweet Shade general!
Let me know what y'all think!
Edit: I'll probably add flavour text later.
Voltron general
or just plain combo with utility

Figured it would be good for a lot of different types of decks, which allows players the greatest amount of versatility possible.
I'm not sure about the 5CMC... but then, I tend to fight against power-creep
I could see that being black/red instead of jund, but it seems like a fairly balanced card imo. Strong ability if it manages to connect each time, but potentially easy to fizzle. Is he inspired by anything?
He combines some of my favorite things, destroying stuff and large creatures. Think of him as a kind of splashy Primordial general. However, he could be abused rather easily... Should I change it to sacrifice and on cast, or maybe just lose the flying? I'm imagining a 4 player game where you can make him a 10/10-18/18, which seems a little too OP. I'm looking at him more like this:
Paelias, Gore Monger 4BRG
Legendary Creature-Demon Warrior
Flying, Trample
When you cast Paelias, Gore Monger, each opponent sacrifices a creature. For each creature sacrificed this way, put X +1/+1 counters on Paelias, where X is that creature's power.
0/0
This way he can still hit a field with only one or two big creatures and take over without instantly being able to dominate the game every single time you cast him. Plus, he can make your opponents play politics and try not to play their big bombs without some little things to get rid of if I were to cast him.
I'm going to work on a decklist now. Hopefully have it done soon.
So I'll be proposing the general from early in this thread, but just thought I'd share my day.
I was longboarding today, and I have a fairly short longboard, and it sits maybe 4.5 inches off the ground with the risers. You can imagine it's not very stable but at moderate speeds you get great turning. So into the story, my friends want to bomb this massive hill, so I follow with them, I am 3/4 of the way down and the speed wobble is so bad my legs are moving back and forth a foot in each direction, at this point going about 20-25 mph I lose it and bail off sliding across the ground for like 30 feet getting some bad road rash. Luckily nothing broken I think! Some lady was driving down the main road and turned around and came back to see if I was ok, so it must have looked pretty bad.
And that was my day, oh also saw a sick daftpunk tribute show with the pyramid and suits and everything that was awesome!
I'll never back down on wanting a Turtle Legend... and here is mine.
I'd play this one Mine will be Bant as well because I decided to take my existing Phelddagrif deck as the starting point. I'll also have an even less usual creature type
That pic is all kinds of excellent! I wonder if Bant is the right colour-combo for his ability, though... The flavor text is good; I quite enjoy Thomas Paine. Shame he died in drunkenness and obscurity (I might be mistaking him for another Revolutionary-era essayist/pundit, though)...
To find it, I did all kinds of unusual image searches like "cow bureaucrat". In the end, it was, like so many times, deviantART that gave the best yield. The card belongs to one of my own sets, called Unplugged, which has a tribal theme and loads of Cows, Dogs, Chickens, Seals, Pigs and other animals.
The flavor text is good; I quite enjoy Thomas Paine. Shame he died in drunkenness and obscurity (I might be mistaking him for another Revolutionary-era essayist/pundit, though)...
I only remember that he was severely deprecated, especially by the religious circles.
Then maybe it should read "each player sacrifices a land" since cows eat grass! that would actually be way too fun to play..
Haha, that would make sense However, I personally dislike land destruction, so I prefer to affect creatures.
The idea behind this card was to make an effect that would require some planning to use (because it also affects your own creatures (including itself)) but could be powerful in the right circumstances and that would keep everybody on their toes.
One of the problems in the dynamics in CMD matches is that the further the game progresses (and the more players there are), the more people start to tune out when it's not their turn. Effects that require advance preparation and that can affect anybody during any turn should alleviate that.
...which is why my meta plays cutthroat -- so games rarely last more than an hour, hour and a half. Unless the Judge is involved
Anyways, I was playing around with the LD, but I get your point. For the record, I enjoy land destruction, especially of the "mass" variety. It is major check on one of the most herp-a-derp "strategies" (ramp-o-rama) and has the added bonus of (usually) hating out my least favourite slice of the colour pie... It's simply unfortunate that green is my favourite colour outside of MtG
You mean the one with three players? We should probably try it as well. I've recently been thinking that two-headed giant might be worth considering for four-player CMD matches.
I've been noticing we've been getting a few out-of-world designs and silver-bordered cards. Could we please keep these in the realm of printability? I'm going to be judging these on flavor as well as functionality and balance. I'll probably just use the MCC rubric to do it. Also if you make a render, ARTIST CREDIT IS REQUIRED. We don't want to get in trouble with the mods.
Design (X/10)
Creativity – How original or innovative is the card? Does it present an old idea with a new twist? Does it employ an entirely new mechanic?
Aesthetics – How elegant is the card? Does it have a fitting name, subtype, and/or flavor text? If there is a render, does the art fit the card?
Potential – Will different player demographics (Spike/Johnny/Timmy) find a use for this card? Does it stand out as a card to build a deck around? Development (X/10)
Balance – Does the card's cost match its power? How balanced are its interactions with other cards? Can it be played in constructed, limited, or multiplayer without breaking any of those formats?
Viability – How well does this card fit into the color wheel? Does it break or bend the rules of the game? How well does it conform to the current tendencies of the game? Polish (X/5)
Quality (X/5) – Points deducted for incorrect spelling, grammar, and templating.
The card belongs to one of my own sets, called Unplugged, which has a tribal theme and loads of Cows, Dogs, Chickens, Seals, Pigs and other animals.
Do you happen to have a "Pinball Wizard" card?
I recently got this idea when discussing players with handicaps. I can imagine it being something like this:
Pinball Wizard RU
Legendary Creature-Wizard Master
As long as Pinball Wizard is on the battlefield, its controller must play with his eyes and ears covered and cannot talk for any reason. If the player uncovers his eyes or ears or talks, sacrifice Pinball Wizard.
At the beginning of your upkeep, flip two coins onto the table from a height of at least one foot. Gain control of all permanents those coins touch for as long as you control Pinball Wizard.
That's my choice for commander, MUGGAH!
Too bad that there is a very low number of apes...
I tried to fit the "pack" theme into the card, with monkeys defending their leader, attacking with him and dying fighting with other creatures or tribes.
For fitting all these effects, i made a high cmc legend, i hope it's not too overpowered for it's cost.
Need help about it! Suggestions?
Ello ello EDH fans! Posting to say /hi from [The Family] also was curious about y'alls opinions of this as a general (rumored card in Theros)
Medomai the Ageless 4UW
Legendary Creature — Sphinx
Flying
Whenever Medomai the Ageless deals combat damage to a player, take an extra turn after this one.
Medomai the Ageless can't attack during extra turns*.
Seems fairly sick in a U/W Control shell. Play him with haste then swing, and then take another turn just to be able to untap and have all your mana open for instants to respond after your 2nd turn. As long as you get a time walk with him every couple of turns you can tap out for walkers, sorceries or what have you and still untap with full control. Like a suped up Sword of Feast and Famine
I have played Grand Arbiter Augustin IV to save on mana to make control easier and still allow me to tap out for stuff, but this guy seems just better.
So are we agreed that Bursama should be the new clan rep and that madhatter00o should be the new elder dragon? If so, I'll set them up and Bursama can go report whats going on to the clan council and get him added in!
we don't even know if that cards was real I believe the person made one post and it was this spoiler also that guy said there was going to be a swords to plowsire card in theros I don't really believe him. I don't think WOTC would make a card of extra turns we already have temporal masteries. also that means 8 time warp effects in a standard deck that uses this card and temporal mastery. also I can clone this and then stolen identity it then attack for a lot then take I don't know three turns I doubt this is real its only speculation.
Well Temporal Mastery will leave standard as soon as Theros comes out, so there's no way for them to be in the same standard environment. Also, the creature is legendary so you wouldn't be able to have multiple in play.
As for the swords enchantment it is currently rumored as..
Chained to the Rocks W
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant _____ you control
When Chained to the Rocks enters the battlefield, exile target creature an opponent controls until Chained to the Rocks leaves the battlefield.
(That creature returns under its owner’s control.)
Which I think is balanced fine, and quite possibly in the set.
So are we agreed that Bursama should be the new clan rep and that madhatter00o should be the new elder dragon? If so, I'll set them up and Bursama can go report whats going on to the clan council and get him added in!
... so I guess I'll be Nicol Bolas then from now on? In that case, I should change my signature...

When it comes to the mechanics, I agree, but I can't see why there should be limitations on the flavor. When you say "silver-bordered", I think of wordings in the vein of "Stand up, Flap your arms, Cluck like a chicken", not every card whose creature type doesn't happen to be Elf or Goblin...
Also if you make a render, ARTIST CREDIT IS REQUIRED.
I'm guessing there are guidelines about this somewhere in here? I was thinking about the best way to handle this because sometimes it's easy to find the artist, sometimes it's impossible. In latter cases, I've just put in the name of the website I found it on.
Can't say I do That's an interesting concept, though. However, even though some of my cards have slightly out-of-the-ordinary themes, I always try to make them "normal" and "playable" in terms of mechanics. They also get regular playtesting because I've made a Cube out of them.
