Looks like not too many people care about me with my volunteer work. I might not want to post here anymore not to be mean or conceded or anything.
GREAT! Now I got guilt on me RIGHT before I hit the hay.
But in seriousness, I'm sorry for not posting more in response to your work, Kev. It's a great thing you do for the community, and a great thing you do in responding to all coffeehouse posts. I would, if I didn't have so friggin MUCH going on in my life. But I guess that's just another excuse.
I've decided I'm going to make some kind of "Guide to AMVs". What I don't know is if I still want to do an Anime of the Week this week, in addition to that. Should I?
DUDE! I need that kinda coaching so bad. I have SO many ideas for AMVs, but don't know how to make them. And if YOU won't do an anime of the week this week, then I will. SOMEONE has to do it...right?
@All: MAN! What a prerelease it was for me. So much so, in fact, that I couldn't post until tonight. It was hugely fun, though. I have a new deck idea, and once it's complete, I'll post the decklist here for any who are interested.
Big day for me tomorrow, too. I have a mock audition for GHP, which means Governor's Honors Program. It's a very selective group for juniors and seniors in the state of Georgia. I made it past first round, but next round isn't until February 3rd. This audition tomorrow will hopefully help me in further developing my studies. If I do get into this, it will look FANTASTIC on my college transcripts once the time comes, as they only accept TWOOOOO bassists in the whole STATE. I have confidence, though. That's about it, however.
Well, g'night folks. I'll try to post more actively from now on. I DO have a big day tomorrow, though, so don't expect any from me tomorrow.
EDIT: NOOOOOOOOOO!! Yukora's dead NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Since I've been wanting to share the AMV love for some time now, I felt my vacation would be a great time to sit down and do it. So here you go:
Mr. Stuff's Guide to the World of Anime Music Videos
*Special Note: All the links contained in this guide link to video on Youtube or Google video. This means that the quality of the video has been drastically reduced from its original form. To see the videos in all their original high-quality glory, you'll need to have an account on animemusicvideos.org.
Section 1: What is an AMV?
An Anime Music Video is just what it sounds like. It's the creation of a fan with access to video editing software, a computer, some scenes from an anime, a song, and a lot of spare time. Videos vary in quality depending on the level of fandom and/or skill with video software. Some videos were made over the course of a few hours and look it, and some were made over the course of an entire year, and look like something a professional movie studio would make. On the internet, there is one main hub that gathers, indexes, and hosts these fan-made creations: http://www.animemusicvideos.org . It takes a couple of weeks after signing up to gain the ability to download AMVs, but if you like anime at all, it is worth it. I can't tell you the value I've gotten out of my acount time and time again, whether just checking out the latest creations or re-downloading to show one to a friend.
What follows is a list of just a few of the best AMVs out there, to get you started. But hey, don't just take my word for it. You can find a much bigger discussion in the "recommended AMVs" thread on the org.
Section 2: Starting Off - Videos Anyone Can Appreciate
What Lain Bought On Ebay - Bad Martial Arts studio Watch it: Here What it is: A great comedy AMV. This is what Lain does in her spare time - surf Ebay. It's done to Weird Al's "Ebay". Lip-synching is top notch, as is the editing in of non-anime scenes, especially snapshots from Ebay.
The AMV Before Halloween - Shining Finger Studios Watch it: Here What it is: THE AMV to pull out at Halloween. We've shown this one every Halloween since I can remember going to our Anime Club. Superb editing, including the bouncing skull and the addition of subtitles in sing-along-song style, make this one a winner. Features several "dark" anime, including Hellsing, Blood: TLV, VHD: Bloodlust, Ninja Scroll and also Naruto, Cowboy Bebop, and Spirited Away.
Hare's Mom - K-Type Watch it: Here What it is: A fun video with Hare + Guu set to the song Stacy's Mom. You don't have to know the anime, just pay attention to the lyrics and everything will make sense. The scenes mesh beautifully with the lyrics to great comic effect, and once again the editing is superb.
Section 3: Prepare To Be Amazed - The Really Good Stuff
Shounen Bushido - Istiv Studio Watch it: Here What it is: Nominated in AMV.orgs Viewer's choice awards in 7 different categories, and winner overall for the year 2005. The video effects are downright jawdropping. The editing is some of the best I've ever seen. The lip-synching is also above the curve. This features mainly Jump anime (ie, from Shounen Jump), things like Naruto, One Piece, Inuyasha, Shaman King, HunterXHunter, etc.
Jihaku - Tyler @ Association Fantasy-Movies Watch it: Here What it is: AMV.org's VCA Best in Show 2006. It's the Foo Fighters' "Best of You" set to clips from just about everything you can imagine. The superb editing job, which combines live-action and animated scenes, makes it a winner.
Reflections of Style 2 & 3 - Multiple Studios Watch it (2): Here Watch it (3): Here What it is: A collaboration by some of the best makers of AMVs out there. The Reflections of Style series of AMVs shows off the different techniques in editing and working with theme that are possible in creating a music video. The original RoS is not quite as amazing as its brethren, and so is excluded a place here - the RoS series only gets better with each iteration. Ros3 is even more amazing (and a good 7 minutes longer) than RoS2 is.
Section 4: Action
Naruto's Technique Beat - Decoy Ops Watch it: Here What it is: Winner of Best Action at Otakon 2005. This uses some of the most heavy editing seen in an AMV to showcase the techniques of five characters from Naruto. Worth watching for the amazing use of filters alone.
War of Wrath - Bote
Watch it: Here
What it is: An epic AMV featuring Escaflowne set to, well, epic music. The song and AMV are about the tragedy and heroism of war. It keeps up for six minutes, and never slows down.
Tainted Donuts - Manic Expressions
Watch it: Here
What it is: An imagining of what might take place if Vash the Stampede and the crew of the Bebop existed in the same universe. Vash does have that tempting 60 billion $$ reward on his head... But how will Spike and co. track him down? The answer lies in the title of the AMV. This one was included because it's an AMV classic.
Section 5: Drama
A City Divided - Hana no JudgeHolden Productions Watch it: Here What it is: Runner-up in the Drama category at Ohayocon 2007. This is an AMV that combines live actions scenes from China and Vietnam with Jin-Roh, Akira, Metropolis, and others to create a powerful anti-war statement. The combination of real-life scenes along with a great song make this one an AMV to remember.
Die Another Day - VicBond007
Watch it: Here
What it is: Participant in Otakon 2003's AMV contest. Madonna's "Die Another Day" provides a backdrop for incredible editing work using footage from Noir. This one wins extra points for oozing style.
Tormented Love - Tyler @ Association Fantasy-Movies
Watch it: Here - Warning: Contains Spoilers
What it is: You can't get much more dramatic than Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Tyler once again does a superb job editing all the various pieces of footage together. Note: This contains quite a few spoilers for Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, so if you plan to watch the series, you might want to do that before watching this.
Section 6: Comedy
Preoccupied with 1985 - Suberunker Studios Watch it: Here What it is: Anime Central 2005's best of show. Take Azumanga Daioh, mix in "1985" by Bowling for Soup, and throw in as many geeky anime and video-game references as you can find. The editing matches the lyrics and the music superbly, and it's just a fun video in general. Ozzy Osbourne is the green fairy. And who's that other dude singing in Van Halen? Jigglypuff, of course.
Senshi On Springer - DokiDoki productions
Watch it: Here
What it is: Weird Al's "Jerry Springer" + Sailor Moon = fun for all. Sailor Moon seems to be one of the more universally known anime, and like all the popular series, it's always fun to poke fun at. Pyschic pornstar midgets that are all nude? Check.
The Chibi Things That Kill - Indifferent Productions
Watch it: Here
What it is: Indifferent Productions brings you the darker side of chibis. Features chibis from several series, including Sumomo, Jigglypuff, the turtle from Love Hina, and more. Can Sumomo win against Majin Vegeta? Find out!
Section 7: Trailer/Parody
Lord of the Yen - Altecha-chan Studios
Watch it: Here
What it is: All three trailers for "The Lord of the Rings" set to Azumanga Daioh. The trailers are titled, individually, "The Lord of the Yen", "The Two Pigtails", and "The Return of Sakaki-san". A great parody with great editing.
Eva Bebop - Scintilla @ Aqualine Studios
Watch it: Here
What it is: Ever wished more anime could have an opening as cool as Cowboy Bebop? For a limited time only, your wish has been granted! This is the opening to Evangelion reimagined in the style of Bebop's opening and set to Tank. One of the most editing-intensive and amazing-looking parodies out there.
Men in Black 2 trailer vs. Big O - VicBond007
Watch it: Here
What it is: The MIB II trailer gets the Big O treatment. "I never worked in a funeral home, slick. Something I can do for you?"
Section 8: Upbeat/Dance
Odorkikuruu - Aokakesu Digital Watch it: Here What it is: One of the first and most popular dance AMVs on the org. It features a remixed version of Mamboleo and footage from, among others, Idol Defense Force Hummingbird. This one is a fun one to sing along to, if you know the lyrics.
Build Me Up Buttercup - Kusoyaro Productions
Watch it: Here
What it is: Fun, irreverant, and upbeat, this AMV features footage from Kare Kano set to a newer remix of Build Me Up Buttercup by The Goops.
Animix Part 3 - Multiple Studios
Watch it: Here
What it is: The Animix Project took place in 2003 as a collaboration by different members of animemusicvideos.org. It contains several, several AMVs by different creators, all re-edited and mixed together into one gigantic track. This is part three, in my estimation one of the best parts of the project.
Special Mention - AMV Hell
I couldn't very well do a guide to AMVs without mentioning the other side of AMVs - that is, the dregs, or the worst AMVs out there. AMV.org has a few compilation videos out there featuring these: namely, the AMV Hell series of videos. AMV Hell 0 and AMV Hell 2 have very much adult content, so be warned, but you can look up AMV Hell 1 or 3 if you're ever in need of a good laugh, or an example of what not to do.
That's all folks! Veteran otaku probably didn't need this guide, or would like to argue with some of my choices, but that's missing the point - this was intended for those either just starting out in the world of anime, or those in the middle ground who might not have heard of some of the things on this guide. Thanks for reading, and may you have sucess in your further AMV endeavors.
Well, my mono hasn't gotten any better. I feel like I havn't slept in weeks.
I think I'm gonna go get some sleep.
I know it'll take some time, but stay well. don't get pushed into ragging out.
@Kevin: Thanks, and you too. Done my bit volunteering for Xray and blood draw and everything else...years and years ago, some more recent stuff might not really count as direct pt contact so I hope the past 100000+ hours will suffice. We'll see!
Hey guys, I'm building semi-competitive, semi-casual confinementslide which uses the loaming engine to maintain my protection. My friend made semi-competitive, semi-casual vialjoblins. Don't ask about joblins, it's just a joke. Both are legacy legal and legacy competitive, but we made them for fun to face off. My biggest threat is enchantment destruction such as cleanfall. Is there any surefire protection for my enchantments against global destruction?
Well.. I think Cecilia is an expert on Legacy.. But my suggestion is countermagic. This pushes your deck into 3 colors, but it might be worth it to prevent the combo from dying.
Ok, my guide to AMVs is starting to have some substance to it. Take a look at it in this thread, here. There are lots of fun things to watch, and there will be many more to come.
However, right now, I'm very tired, so I'm going to bed. I will do an anime of the week tomorrow as well, although I have no idea yet what it's going to be.
I already splashed red for lightning rift. I have mox diamonds for multi-mana i suppose, and I guess it wouldn't be hard to splash some more duals and use fetch lands to get them. but it's a fragile decking keeping it at 60 cards. Not sure what I would drop for FoW. I'd rather have some card I could sideboard in.
At Moo: Aura Extraction may help against the mass enchantment removal. It saves your enchantment (leaves you vulnerable for a turn though), and it also has cycling(!) which is a key part of the deck.
@lord moo: Cycling lands can be really good with loam and solitary confinement. Besides cycling lands with life from the loam can be a unstoppable draw engine as well if its not impeded by a tormod's crypt or a leyline of the void or some other graveyard hate card. You can also use a couple of squee, goblin nabob to negate the upkeep from the confinement. You could search for squees, cycling lands, confinement and loams via intuition as well if you decide to splash blue in the deck. Intuition can just add more consistency to your confinement deck since it can tutor for the most important cards in your deck. Besides there is this really good loam confinement deck that had better then top 20 at the grand prix in lille with over 900 players that you should check out i think the deck is still in the legacy forums.
Hey guys, I don't have long because I'm not technically supposed to be on the compy right now, plus I have a history chapter to read by tomorrow that I haven't started.
Anyway, about the blogs, meh, I'm not going to make one, at least not for now. I don't really feel the need to, and I will most likely completely forget about it.
Oh, and I have a dilemma that I need advice from you guys on, but since I don't have much time to type, I will post it tomorrow, or when I have the chance.
P.S. Oh man, I wish I was in the final round of the FCC. I love that restriction, and I have some really cool card ideas for it. Eh, whatever, MW will make a cool card for me (hopefully). Good luck to MW and Alacar, by the way. We have to get a Coffeehouse streak going!
@alacar: Thanks alacar! I am not exactly an expert though in legacy. I used to be though and also used to be quite a legacy player as well.
@strongbad: you better get started on your homework and studying! We are all expecting you to do really well in school since we all know your pretty intelligient. Goodluck! Have a good night as well!
@FCC: goodluck to all of you thats still in the contest.
@Mr. stuff: have a great night mr. stuff and take care and best wishes to you!
@Snoop: your welcome and thanks again for your support snoop. I know you will do really well in the medical field. You are that dedicated and motivated I bet to do really well in the medical field.
@magic mage: your such a sweet and cool lady magic mage! Best wishes to you! Also best wishes to everyone else too!
well this will probably be my last post for tonight. See you all soon! Also sorry about the trouble i caused earlier about me not getting that much attention. I can be very foolish at times. I will see you all tommorrow. I will be on aol messenger if anyone wants to talk to me anytime. *hugs and blows kisses to everyone*
@Moo: The card of the day is Second Sunrise. It'll keep their Cleanfall et al. in their grave and resurrect everything that went to your grave that turn. Totally sideboard tho. If you aren't playing SB's, countermagic is indeed your best bet.
Blogs: I'm gonna probably get one. But first I wanna have some sorta topic. This isn't gonna be your average blog peoples...
I've felt very strange the past few days. It feels like I'm detached, floating above the ground . . . that is, it feels a bit like I'm in a dream or a haze. I think I've just got a lot on my mind lately, especially with trying to get my head around the change in job . . . nonetheless, I get like this sometimes and I generally don't like it . . . oh, well, it's not too bad.
@Philosophy: Philosophy can be kind of fun. I started doing some amateur reading on it, it's not too bad once you start getting used to what it's all about.

Good jorb, mame. I trust you'll do well because you seem to be a people-person at heart and have decent insight into work's effect on morale, and vice versa.
Thank you very much, Starr. I've been told there that the kind of employee they really need right now is someone who is personable and good with customers . . . apparently the reason the manager thought to hire me was because she said that whenever she sees me, I am always smiling. That does put a little more pressure on it, since I'm certainly not the most cheerful person in the world, but I'd like to do well. Anyway, I do have a week to get accustomed to the idea.

Hello everyone! My volunteer working went pretty well. I had alot better then most of the learning experience i had a sunrise hospital put together.
Great. It's too bad you can't go more often; maybe you will be able to later on.
@Blogs: I am thinking of getting one, I'll probably decide later today.
Have a good day, all. I will see you all later today! *waves*
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the light that you see. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel. All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to fill your heart on my own.
But the rainbow is an image of hope for many reasons, as it is a brilliant sight coming out of oftimes dismal weather.
@Strongbad: We're always here to spare an ear. When have we ever not been of help to those who need it?
@Alacar: I was thinking of making a Time Walk variant originally, but I thought that would be too basic (not that yours is).
I'm going to class in a couple of minutes... my Documentary Research class. After that it's a few hours to myself. I love Tuesdays and Thursdays... I have two classes instead of three.
Gmorning guys... I'm not going to work today (only one hour.. and update: I emailed my boss.. she totally understood) in favor of actually getting some work done....I have a big chunk of my Senior Thesis Proposal (namely, my Lit Review) due Thursday at 12... and since I have not done very much on it thus far, I'm thinking I may just skip my 12-2 class today, in favor of working on it.... (that 12-2 class is the one in which it is due on Thursday)... And i have an appointment on the academic side of campus at 5pm, so I may just stay on that side in the library, working on my Lit Review from 12 until 5pm... Then I'll have an appointment with my counselor until 6, then grab a bite to eat until 7... when I have a group meeting, until around 8ish... Then it'll be back here to focus some more on it... but hopefully that 5 hours will have been relatively productive, and I can do a bit more on it, and then call it a night, and do something relatively relaxing before I go to sleep... One can only hope.
Anyway really should get to work on the stuff i need to do b4 11... Take care everybody and wish me luck on this
Consider luck wished your way. I remember those days... skipping classes to work on stuff for other classes... showing up 1/2 hour late to a class because you were still working on something that was due... fun times, fun times.
Time for me to work more on my Guide and on the new AotW. Then, sleep. I went to bed at 4:30am last night, and was unexpectedly forced to get up and drive in town at 9:30am today because there was a mistake made on the title to my truck (which I'm selling) that I had to fix.
Ninja Edit: As I'm typing this right now, I just got word that what I tried to fix didn't actually work. I just got home, and now I have to drive BACK out to the DMV for another 20 minutes just to get a new title made or something so I can get my truck sold. Damnit. Why can't I just sleep on my vacation? *groggy eyes*
............ALRIGHT ALRIGHT, me too. Can't say I don't try, though.
GREAT! Now I got guilt on me RIGHT before I hit the hay.

EDIT 2: ARGH!! Missed #2400 by one.
I think I'm gonna go get some sleep.
I made a blog, and I may never post in it again.
Great job volunteering Cecilia :), Sorry I don't respond to hardly anything, but I've found it difficult lately.
So, I guess the moral of the story is that orcs are scary for a reason?
Seriously, though, I'm sorry, that really sucks. It happens, though. Any chance of resurrection?
In other words, no.
And I was playing an ogre
Um... he just posted yesterday?
Maybe you will get lucky.
And besides, it was just a level 1 character. It's not like he was something important, like MY level 1 character or anything.

What it is: The Animix Project took place in 2003 as a collaboration by different members of animemusicvideos.org. It contains several, several AMVs by different creators, all re-edited and mixed together into one gigantic track. This is part three, in my estimation one of the best parts of the project.
But yes, Photon is right--Orcs are scary for a reason.

We'll see!

However, right now, I'm very tired, so I'm going to bed. I will do an anime of the week tomorrow as well, although I have no idea yet what it's going to be.

Also, I hope you include AMV Hell in that guide--but not AMV Hell 0.. that movie has scarred my soul.

Great. It's too bad you can't go more often; maybe you will be able to later on.
@Blogs: I am thinking of getting one, I'll probably decide later today.
Have a good day, all. I will see you all later today! *waves*
All that I yearn for, for richer or poorer, is to be the peace that you feel.

Anyway really should get to work on the stuff i need to do b4 11... Take care everybody and wish me luck on this
