I'd have to think its a red herring. I just don't believe that there would be a keyword called assemble. If a contraption is an artifact, then the rules text would probably say something like 'whenever a non-token contraption comes into play, put a token copy of that contraption into play.' I'd guess that would be much more rule friendly.
EDIT: and since when have they used keywords as verbs. maybe they have, i just can't think of an instance.
Wow, 3rd page and nobody sees the synergy with Jalen, Master Rigger That total hoses Planar Hatchery yeah it pushes you back to turn six but it allows you to play a turn 5 Forced Labor making it much more resilient against Kobolds United.
Am I missing something here other than possible problems against Meltdown decks?
honestly no one sees the combo with Leona, Bridge Builder Apprentice. When the two contraptions come into play, you get priority so you can tap the bridge builder to rig your opponent with the contraptions which will explode shortly after because of leona's triggered ability.
The only reason i can think of for them to print this card is so that when wizards runs out of ideas, they can look back and say, "Huh, why the hell did we print this card?" The other guywill say,"I dunno, lets make a cycle of cards called riggers and conraptions that are more powerful than slivers could ever dream of being, and when the set comes out, we ban this card." The first guy will then say," Huh, i like it. Sadistic, evil, and even after we made it the most common rare in that set! I love it!"

Problem is we're two colors again which is a known problem plus Abysmal Touch Decks are sure to be running a few Gremlins which would prevent the contraptions from exploding. Cool idea but definetely limited to casual unless you have some anti-Gremlin tech we don't yet know about
Two colors isn't as much of a problem if you have the lens. Though space would be tight. I would think you could focus your contraptions more to allow for the lens. If we are using the boss, we can take out our manna contraptions and put more pinging contraptions, and that should take care of our gremlin problems.
Is this thread a joke? I don't get it because I am a n00b. Could someone PLEASE explain what is going on?
Because there are no actual other riggers or contraption makers so far, he is basically 3R for a 3/3 at rare (or a rare hill giant. WTF!?). So everyone is just making up names for stupid cards that make him useful which won't actually happen.
Long story short, yes. This thread is a joke.

With all, put the same thing except with / in front of what type of tags they are (like [/card]) to close them.

@Non: i for one thank the Magic gods they banned Rustheart Engine. they shoulda called it "umezawa's skullclamp" as far as i'm concerned. why do they keep printing such format warping equipment? but you're right that Forced Labor isn't really the answer here.
here's my combo: Steamflogger Boss doubles your Contraption output, right? and doesn't Luddite Devourer make a 2/2 Cleric for every 2 Contraptions you sac to it? to finish the (neat, but fragile) combo all you need is Jettermik, Paranoid Clocksmith. so, tap Jettermik to make his Contraption (prevent 1 damage), Boss doubles it, sac em both to the Devourer, 2/2 token comes into play, Jettermik untaps. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. nice thing is, you can make your infinite army at the end of their turn; bad thing is, it's all on the board for them to see, and thus disrupt. too bad the tokens aren't Riggers instead of Clerics;)
Anyway, using something like Artficial Insomniac then using sky swallower to donate your whole field to them and therefore mill them FTW would be fun. Throw in some things like Many Hands to speed up assembly work, but then the colour restrictions make it hard to pull off, casual deck ONLY.
That's true, but I was thinking along the lines of other keywords. Because I don't believe that contraptions change the game enough to merit a keyword ver. They seemed quite conservative with their choices. Equip was something they had been meaning to do for quite some time, if i recall correctly. Maybe it's just coincidence, but i don't think that assemble will be a keyword verb anytime soon.
You're all forgetting Chicken and Eggs is still T3 legal. Steamflogger Boss/Mortal Coilslooks competitive, but in practice it'll be Flipped out of existance, and your opponent will still be able to resonate to 50 by turn four, no matter how many contraptions you assemble. The fact remains that without a proper answer to Planar Hatchery, contraptions aren't tournament viable no matter how much support they get.
Yes contraptions can be flipped, spells can be countered and creatures can be annihilated. But every time a new card comes along anyone will claim that this can be handled by flips. planar hatchery is a powerfull card but not format defining - at least not in my meta.
Steamflogger Boss - :3mana::symr:
Creature - Goblin Rigger (R) [SP]
Other Rigger creatures you control get +1/+0 and have haste.
If a Rigger you control would assemble a Contraption, it assembles two Contraptions instead.
3/3
Y'know... it doesn't specify that the second contrapion is the same kind as the first. Kinda suggests that there's only one kind of contraption. Weird.

Contraption means "non-creature artifact token." they don't call it a token for two reasons: 1) they don't want it to interact with things that interact with tokens (like Doubling Season), and 2) up until FS, all tokens were creatures, though now we have tokens that are enchantments (Imperial Mask).

(so what, it's up to the other riggers and other creatures to use the contraptions for other activated abilities?)
And of course MacGuyver hoses Planar Hatchery, The legendary Rigger's combo with Explosives is why T2 is so broken right now, Planar Hatchery Decks can't keep up.
EDIT: OMG, Let's make Contraptions and stuff to do with them the most suggested idea for the next "You Make the Card." I like this thread, it's full of so much win.
The Ghost of MaRo Future just told me that the second set of DDR block (Dance, Danse, Revolution block) would introduce the contraptions for the first time. They will be a lot like the Chimeras except more broken. He told me that it would be the only time in Magic history that a card will be banned during R&D testing but still make it to the set thus being the fastest banned card ever (that will be named Six-Million Dollar Man)
Some of you may have been in shock since we invaded Canada and Mexico, but fear not, it was for a good cause. Now that we conrol North America, we produce an extra 5 armies a turn.^_^
But really, I think WotC is going to reveal to us next set that this is the most broken card EVER, its price will skyrocket, and everyone who spat upon it and threw it to the side in Future Sight will cry.

But I'm not ready to be in a tournement enviroment where Macguyver + Explosions = free damage, seriously, paying 2RR and sacing a contraption to play Explosions and sac all your other contraptions to deal 2 damage per contraption is just insane... and don't forget the Vedalkin Manadriller, that card is just insane for control.
(so what, it's up to the other riggers and other creatures to use the contraptions for other activated abilities?)
draft much?
Contraptions are non-creature artifact tokens that are given abilities by the Riggers that make them, just as token creatures have varying stats and abilities.
for example, my personal new favorite Rigger (because of the combo with Steamflogger Boss which i outline in post #50): Jettermik, Paranoid Clocksmith
Creature - Human Rigger
Whenever a creature comes into play, untap Jettermik, Paranoid Clocksmith.
: Jettermik, Paranoid Clocksmith assembles a Contraption with "Sacrifice this Contraption: Prevent the next 1 damage that would be dealt to target creature or player."
1/2
the nice thing about Contraptions is that they stick around after the Rigger that made them is sent to the bin. mass creature removal leaves your Contraptions ticking away...
EDIT: thanks, celestial and harmless. correction made. i haven't actually looked at the card for some time

We're discussing combos with Steamflogger Boss.
As for Wind-Up Gambit, it combos well with the Phaseshifted Chance Encounter, but it's hard to get it on the board early without at least 2 Steamflogger Recruits.
