To become exonerated is only one of its meanings, another is to avenge or get revenge.
Yup in the storyline teh revenge they get is by destroying both the predator and the stronghold, one being the most powerful ship in the phyrexian armada(their flagship) and the other one being the very nexus of where the planar overlay was happening and the place where yawgmoth was to come through.
in magic game terms you somehow get revenge on someone by being ably to blow up anything, thinking deeply about it the mechanic isnt really good when illustrating the card since more like than not its you who needs to get some revenge when someone else vindicates your permanent.
great promo though, Ill possibly never get one but hey there is always a chance of getting one somehow if you really really want it (ebay)
I'm curious to as to what old favorites will be reprinted in Lorwyn (aka, Eradicate in Kamigawa, etc).
Engineered Plague would be nice. All these creature types running around... Oh yeah. Damnation.
I guess I'll go look for a scan myself.... *grumble grumble* (yes, I'm that lazy)
By the way, in terms of shelling out the money for a judge foil, I am completely broke, and I still consider it. Mostly because the old foiling (where only the colored border was foiled) is just so inferior to the full foiling on the new cards. I was so excited to land an Ascendant Evincar foiled, only because it makes such a difference to see that picture brought to life in a new way. (Creature - Vampire is nice too).
Anyways, that's also the reason why FNM cards are really cool to me, since they usually never got the good foil treatment.
This will be worth a ton once it gets reprinted in Lorwyn to deal with planeswalkers
Not really, I can't see it being printed in lorwyn. They will probably make a card that says 'destroy target planeswalker' or something more reasonable.
I think it is only fair that the judges get fancy promo cards, they supposedly work harder than us players. I wouldn't complain or become a judge just for fancy whiz-bang foils with alternate art.

With all, put the same thing except with / in front of what type of tags they are (like [/card]) to close them.
Card: [card]
Hybrid: :symub: = order doesn't matter
For those of you still wandering about the flavour of the art and how it matches the flavour text, I think the sattelite in the front is shooting the weatherlight(see apocalypse art) with gerrard on it, he is like a decoy or something while the rest of the crew are on some planet fighting a planeswalker or something else like what happens on TV occasionally over here. I'm probably not right, but it sounds logical to me.

you do realize that little satellite thing IS the weatherlight right?
Stupid question, but when do the Judge's receive their promos (IE when do the Vindicates enter circulation)?

Current Fallen Angel (Anson Maddocks art) Count:449!!!
This new art is just so meh to me. I almost wish they did the same thing as they did with Yagmoth's Will and just used the old art... Judge promos seem to all be either AMAZING, (Exalted Angel, Cunning Wish, Meddling Mage) or JUNK (Vindicate, Decree of Justice, Ravenous Baloth).
Also, is it just me or does that look like they're using the release promo foil effect on judge promos as well? If so, it really makes this one look bad.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
This is the exact reason why I DIDN'T spoil what the image of the promo card looked like, even though I had seen a complete set at Nationals.
You can't really describe this image and do it justice. If I were to say, "It shows a warrior plunging a cindery sword deep into the ground, and an erupting vortex surging behind him," I just know everyone would think the art was uber r0X0r.
Then you see this thing.
Ugh, the reaction at Nationals was pretty mixed among those I spoke to. Some thought it was an utter abomination, some thought it was an elegant portrayal, and many didn't think it was great but still thought it was better than the original.
I'm part of the fourth crowd that didn't like it and thought the original was better but didn't think it was horrible trash either. The artwork for Vindicate has always been in contrast with its effect. In the original, we have Gerrard sacrificing himself in a fiery explosion, yet the actual card destroys any permanent without the caster losing anything. In this next one, we have a nameless soldier opening up a vortex, yet it is totally unclear what, if anything, is being destroyed.
Oh well. At the end of the day, it is still a cool card.
This card's art is pretty ehh. I can't say it's bad, but for a judge promo, it could be better. I personally like the art, it just doesn't meet my standards for a judge promo.
I don't care for the picture, but I think the new flavor text is very effective at lending some sense to the card's name.

you can generally tell the easiest road to victory by how many players congregate on it; and the road of counterspells/control has been the freeway of choice in magic for quite some time.

What I find offensive is not that Wizards is endeavoring to make the game more accessible, but the attitudes of elitists who act as though no one of any age should show their face in the Magic public without first having mastery over the complexities of the game.
I think part of the issue people are seeing is the foiling. The warrior is likely very much "clear" while the action in the background is all shimmery and foily. i'm guessing that doesn't come across too well in a scan.
Anyway, if people dislike it that much then let's hope it won't cost much. I'd REALLY love one for my EDH.
A certain community member asked me to confirm whether the promo judge Vindicate was printed using the "modern foil" method (versus the "traditional foil" method of having only the border be foily, not the image) or if in fact the "hyperfoiling" method commonly associated with release cards was in effect.
For better or worse, it's still of the modern foil variety, although admittedly the scan does look like one of a glossier card, ala the 10th edition release Reya Dawnbringer.
Don't worry...I don't think that's a cradle WOTC is willing to rock just yet...we all know how players love their judge promos, just the way they are.

Doesn't that suit the cards abilities though?
It doesn't pictorally define what is being blown up because the choice is ours.
I would have loved this art if it had someone looking as badass as say... Kamahl.

IMO, the best flavor text on a card since Guildpact. Ironically, it was the Orzhov that had the best flavor text there (Culling Sun).
