This is hard. My trade that comes to mind is when I traded my Radha, Heir to Keld for a Null Profusion. I wanted to make a mono black agrro deck. It wasn't that good of a trade though.
As far as trades go, my favourite trade ever was an Umezawa's Jitte for 11 tix (Magic Online's de-facto currency - so that's effectively $11). Why was this so good? Because I'd noticed something some of the online traders hadn't... that the Rats Nest preconstructed deck had a Jitte in it.
Rats Nest cost $10. So it was possible to make a $1 profit (plus the entire contents of the deck minus the Jitte) for each sucker you could find who still had their buy price at $11.
I made about $15 before running out of buyers! ...but by the time I woke up the next morning, the market had caught on.

i am at work so i havn't listened to the cast yet but i did read the show notes so i can answer the trade question. my most unique trade would be this one:
I traded all of my DD minis, valued at a 400 hundred dollar price that no one would ever pay, for a bazzar of baghdad and a mini itallian mana drain. The bazzar was then traded for a play set of revised underground seas, two lions eye diomand and a blood staind mire. The mana drain was sold for 90 cash along with a mishra's workshop that sold for 150. That 240 went towards a 60 gig ps3 that i was able to get for 399 because of very, very, very bad mejers customer service. So in the end i tell people that i traded my DD minis for a ps3.
Awww, I didnt win.....oh well good work japoniano/zipmaster:)
I normally would be distraught over this, but the news that they finally found a way to make the ovinomancer usable in good decks offsets that. Soon I will make this deck and use it to its full standard potential.:D
My Funniest trade was a 2 -part trade when lorwyn came out, and no one had a good idea what anything was worth. I had just traded for a Garruk Wildspeaker for my Sol Ring, I was sad a first because I liked my ring. Then about 15 min later I found another friend of mine who needed a Garruk badly. So then We worked out a trade and I got...wait for it...a SOL RING FOR IT;)!!! + one Austere Command. So after looking back on it I got one command net in the two trades after cancelling out the others. Unfortunately Garruks went up in price after that...oh well easy come, easy go. Another trade I did was seeing someone else who had gotten out of magic a while ago was and getting into YuGiOh, so we got to talking and I looked through his old MTG cards. In the end, I traded 6$ worth of YuGiOh cards for his Akroma(The white one from legions),and Utopia Tree(Invasion). Moral of the story there was, playing/collecting 2 different card games...works!!!
NOTE- None of the people on this post were little kids, in case you're wondering.
great cast guys. shame I missed on the goods, but einstien's presence would still be cool...
my best trade was with my girlfriend, despite it not being a real trade. She was just getting into Magic this april, bought the B/R PLC precon and was doing okay with it. She still needed some better ways to deal damage, so I bought her some cheap burn spells and some basic removal, just some cheap cards to help her deck.
Over the summer, we met up at the card shop for Magic Game day. She said something about not thanking me properly for before, and bought 2 tenth ed boosters, one for each of us. We each crack birds of paradise.
It wasn't that much a trade, but for for a pair of lovebirds to crack a pair of birds was memorable.

I don't know if you would consider this a little kid rip off story (since we were both new to the game). anyway, I traded an Island and a Mountain to my friend for his Volcanic Island when Revised was new since he thought that it was basically the same.
The ironic thing is that later he was trying to finish a revised set and the last card he needed to get was Volcanic Island...

Hey pokerbob1,
No, that story is just fine and I had a similar experience when I first started playing in beta. A few of us played R/W and had a couple of plateaus and some destoryed them all with a Flashfire and for an extended period of time we thought dual lands sucked since they could be killed by multiple spells. So much we didn't know. :^)
As for stuff to give away if 50+ comments this time, it will be a juicy piece of swag from Worlds - since I am getting a press pass AND a VIP voucher (which I don't know what it does).
As usual, I don't any sort of funny stories about trading, because I assume I trade the normal way people do:
-Meet random people, exchange binders, and negotiate cards
-Have a group of friends you trust, exchange binders, take the cards you need, and as time passes give/take other things to compensate for the cards you/they owe
I guess the longest time it took me to clear a trade of those was for Ravnica block, me and a friends traded like 10 cards (each) in the course of 3 months, and we have a Excel sheet with the average prices of 3 different stores to keep track of who owed whom, until we finally reached a equilibrium.
And there was that time I ripped off a...*Tom whacks him on the head, hides the body, and keeps his Fruitcake Elemental.*
Hmm...does it count if it's just extreme stupidity?
And by this I'm refering to the contents of the trade.
Last week I traded a Thoughtseize for a Water Gun Machine Game, Topsy Turvy, Blast from the Past, foil Deal Damage, a foil Pongify, and a Beacon of Immortality, mostly for my EDH deck. Eh...
I have no problems with cursing. I always feel like the sort of people who buy that cliche are the same ones who think that every bully is secretly insecure. Life isn't as simple as our kindergarten teachers taught us.
I traded my Tarmogoyf to some guy for a Korlash, Heir to Black Blade thinking I ripped him off pretty tough... then a week later Tarmogoyf breaks the format and a month later I got a $20 loss. Trade karma is GREAT.
That's got to be the most pathetic love story ever. Sorry C_M, it's true.
Yeah, I know. still...

Bah!!!! i just started listening to the cast and the intro music is gone... Mark Rosewater is nice but Mark Rosewater leading into the music would have been great. Ok, back to the cast.
Bah!!!!! (again) I made sure not to read anything on the forums about the giveaway and i just found out that i won nothing... I am sad but i am willing to clash with Tom for the loti. Better yet the foot race sounds good, half marathon? Ok Dom, what are you giving away, I heard something about 100 * 3. I will take 300 in cash. : - ).
It seemed like you guys had some sound issues in this cast, i heard some feed back or echos. When gavin walked in and started telling us about his wet pants i almost laughed far to loudly at work (a library). The card giveaway has awsome art but i have one already so this one would only be great if i could get some mtgcast signatures all over it. Anyway, seemed like a good show (it kept me awake durring work) and i will take a look at the tribal decks later.
My trade story:
When I want a card, I'll do my best to get that, be it overpay or whatever. This time the card in question was a playset of mystic snake and a playset of voidslime from my good friend lloyd. Unfortunately he didn't want anything from me, but I knew he was hankering for some hot lorwyn cards(thoughtseize, planeswalkers, etc), and my friend Jon needed my palladin en-vecs and sower of temptation. Jon had a couple jaces for trade, but he traded one of them away to my friend Richard, who needed sudden spoiling and sudden deaths. My friend Brian had sudden spoilings, but he needed caves of koilos to complete his set which i had traded to another guy Hunter. To make a long story a little shorter: 2 horde of notions, and a bunch of uncommons for caves, which went to brian, who gave me the spoilings, which i traded to richard for a jace, then got the other jace off jon for some palladin en-vecs, which i then traded (2 jaces and my sower) for a set of mystic snakes and voidslimes.
Wait a second, type 4 is also called the stack? Son of a ***** that is the second time someone has used my name for my format. Both cube and stack. Damnit!
When I first started playing magic I was working on completing a complete rebecca guay collection, I was still missing a couple cards when I looked through a friends collection, I found 4 or 5 cards I needed and proceded to trade him a soda for them since they were worthless. About a year later Portal becomes legal and it turns out I got a sea drake for a pepsi.

I am currently trying to get the full rebecca set and i tell ya what those portal cards are hard to find. If the mtgcast wanted to give out a wood elves i would be pleanty grateful. A sea drake would be even better i guess.
Just wanna take a moment to say great podcast, I almost laughed out loud a couple times throuhg it all. Always seems to make the last half of my two hour class go by so fast on mondays.
Anyways, no funny or odd trade stories, but I do recall an interesting trade I made back when I first started playing. Back when Legions was still a little new, a friend of mine had opened up a tournament pack of Mercadian Masques and found one of the strangest cards I'd ever seen and have never seen since, it had the normal back of a card, but the face was pure black just like the borders. No art, text, nothing. He just gave it to me and I went on to trade that card and a Cunning Wish a while later for the first legend I'd ever laid hands on, the angry lady herself: Akroma, Angel of Wrath. Back then, I don't think the guy I traded knew Akroma's value or power, I know I had no earthly idea at all, I just knew she was big and scary. Probably one of the only trades I've had that I really have mixed feelings about..
And since billythefridge mentioned it, I'm reminded of the future sight prerelease where I opened two tarmogoyfs and sold them the day after thinking them a little weak.. how sad I was when I saw them going up in price later... ::sigh::
Naw, I traded both the black card and the wish for the angel. Looking back, I kinda wish I hadn't since now I kind of hunt for oddities like that. Not so much back then though, I just wanted the scary angel.
great cast guys. shame I missed on the goods, but einstien's presence would still be cool...

Just wanted to say, I think this story autowins for the cuteness factor :glee::love::O:heart:
That aside, the best trade I ever gave someone was when I was a little kid, I traded away my Colossus of Sardia for Natural Spring, as I was thinking that a card strictly better than Stream of Life might actually be worthwhile...
Just wanted to say, I think this story autowins for the cuteness factor :glee::love::O:heart:
Pics or it didn't happen... of the girlfriend, not the Birds of Paradise.
And you know what was the worst about the Tarmogoyf trade... I really liked Goyf at the time and was gonna pick up a play set for a Tarmogoyf/Storm Entity... the guy needed the Tarmogoyf to complete a set, otherwise I was going to hold on to him... I figured I could pick up a place set the coming week for $5-10... I was WRONG.
Soo Trades this week eh, well lets try this on for size,
This year is my first year as an actual Tournament Player, where i go to only sanctioned tournaments,
Anywhoo, we were chillin at Regionals this year i was workin on nosleep (which ends up happening at all big events) Round 1 i went 2-0 , Round 2 i went 1-2, Round 3 i went 2-1 and judge comes by, and says deckcheck picks up my deck and looks threw it and somehow i only had 59 cards, Before the event i was trading cards, and of course on no sleep i was'nt exactly thinking
I traded a Lotus Bloom out of my dragonstorm deck to a guy who needed one more for the event for a pact of negation and round 4 i was paired against him and he told the judges i only had 3 lotus blooms in my deck.... So my trade was a lotus bloom for a pact of negation and a matchloss.... was not pleasent, yea i got screwed:( i dropped 2-2...
since this weeks thread is about trades i thought i would bring up a topic that has been on my mind. Do you veiw magic as an expense or as an investment? i know i used to tell myself that it was an invesment and that each trade i did and each draft i played was earning me. After years of playing that way (and being married for a year) I have realized that magic is no more an investment than seeing a movie. Sure i leave with some pieces of cardboard but the movie doesn't set me up to buy more (crappy sequals not withstanding).
I also found that when i thought of magic as an investment i was much more concerned with trading up and always getting the best value out of my cards. As a christian this often rubbed me the wrong way, why couldn't i be a bit more aultruistic with my pieces of carboard? Why did i have to value them as highly as i did?
So the solution for me... I know see magic in the same light i do movies. It costs money and is better when shared with friends.
Any thoughts?
