I'm interested in all Ice age block storyline sources. Below is what I've got, let me know if there are other sources. Also, if someone can tell me which are considered pre-rev and post-rev, that would be appreciated.
Armada comics (Jeff Gomez)
- #1 The Twilight Kingdom
- #2 The Frozen Dead
- #3 The Shard
- #4 Forever silent the world
Note: the above 4 comics were also republished under 2 volumes
Note2: An "Alliances" comic was also completed by Armada but never published. I would love to find this story.
Duelist magazine (used to be the offiial magazine of Magic)
- # 5 "Feast of Kjeld" (p17-20 John Tynes) + a 2 page map of Terisiare
- # 11 "The Setting for Alliances" (p18 Scott C. Hungerford)
- # 11 "A Forced Ally" (p59 Scott C. Hungerford)
- # 11 supplement pillage poster. This discusses Varchild. No author
Books
From The monsters of magic Anthology
- Ach! Hans, Run! (p29-52 Will McDermott)
- The Eternal Ice (Jeff Grubb)
- The Shattered Alliance (Jeff Grubb)
Note: The Gathering Dark is the start of Jodah but this is pre-Ice Age
Coldsnap Short stories
- The Horror at Ronom Glacier (Doug Beyer)
- The Battle of Kjeldor (Monty Ashley)
- Vannemir's Choice (Adam Lee)
- The Weather Outside is Frightful (p4-5 from Coldsnap Player's Guide, author unknown)
- Keeping the Cold (p12-23 from Coldsnap's Player Guide, Jeff Grubb)
Question: Can I post some of the stories on this site (e.g. Feast of Kjeld) or are there some type of copyright laws that prohibit this?
I'm in the process of doing a complete character summary from the Ice Age block, so if you've got other Ice Age block sources, please let me know (Time Spiral block excluded). Also, if some Ice Age block characters appear in other blocks, those stories are also excluded). e.g. Stories about Freyalise in other "Blocks".
Why I'm I doing this, 2 reasons:
- 1: Personal interest, this block is my favorite for many reasons: Jodah, block when I started playing, Flavor. All my type two decks are currently Ice Age block (i.e. coldsnap + Ice Age and Alliances cards that are legal). I'm actually over 50% win ratio with that limited card pool. 5-2 at champs last year and 3-3-1 this year. + all the FNM's
- 2: WOC just updated character races for certain cards and I'm upset about certain changes (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=101584) . As far as I can remember, everything I've read indicates that Kaysa is human and not half-elf and she is not the true daughter of Kolbjorn and Disa (she's adopted). Also, Elder Druid should not be an elf. Same with Freyalise, where is it mentioned that she is half-elf? On the cover of the Twilight Kingdom, a woman is shown with pointed ears but I believe this is not Freyalise, just like it is not Jason Carthalion on the cover (brown vs black hair). Towards the end of the same comic, Freyalise removes her helmet and clearly has human ears. This might be a pre-rev thing!

First of all thank you! This is my favourite block! Although I truely wish Coldsnap was not a part of it and they rather just slotted in The Dark to make the block 3 sets big. Coldsnap just seems to fit in better with Time Spiral for me and brings nothing to the block storywise or cardwise...
Anyways, I'm also of the opinion that Kaysa should be a human. I seem to recall reading that somewhere in a Duelist maybe? No idea... My other big gripe is that Merieke Ri Berit should be an Elf, she may not be in traditional elvish colours but she seems like a lost elven maiden to me... I queried the artist Heather Hudson about it and she had this to say:
"The card was originally called "La Belle Dame Sans Merci" after the poem by Keats, the name was changed in production.
There's probably a metaphor involved. You tell me what it means. (Sorry it took me so long to remember the backstory!)
Heather Hudson"
The poem does seem to refer to her as a "faery's child" (elves and faeries are sometimes considered synonymous) and her place of residence as an "elfin grot". So basically she's some lifesucking temptress dark elf which keeps knights under her spell. Well that's what I get from the poem. Her ears are also definately pointy in the artwork. She should definately be an Elf Wizard.
Just something tasty that I doubt anyone knows about to add to the compendium
I'm very keen to see what info you can compile and love to see that other people appreciate this truely awesome block as much as I do.

Yep, in Duelist #5, story "Feast of Kjeld". This is where Kolbjorn meets Kaysa and sees that Kaysa has the mark to be the next Elder Druid. Kolbjorn "adopts" Kaysa. Kaysa was under the supervision of the priest Halvor Arenson. In all the readings on the Ice age block, I can't recall mention of Kaysa or Freyalise as being half-elven. This might have been added in other stories afterwards. Don't know, haven't read any other. My feeling is that magic stories are written as if all characters are human by default and when they are not human, the race of the character is given. How do we know that a certain character is an elf? The author mentions it. As for humans, the authors very rarely mention that a character is a human since this is the default setting. By this reasoning, Kaysa and Freyalise are both human. However, I have a feeling that stories outside the Ice age block mention this. Confirmation anyone?
As for Merieke Ri Berit, I totally agree with you. Was disapointed when she was released in Time Spiral as a human. There is no reference of her anywhere and her picture is clearly elf.
Anyways, my summaries will be based solely on what I find in the Ice Age block stuff. If I don't find any indication (wording or images) that a character is of a race other than human, then human will be the default. Feedback from others will be appreciated even if the source is from outside the Ice Age block stuff.

Why are you doing a character summary? Sounds very interesting, I'm interested.
Where did you get these coldsnap short stories from?
They hate us cause they ain't us.
