Ok I'm still more of a fan of Lorwyn regarding art, but the following card arts that are absolutely cool:
Puca's Mischief - hahahah love the pipe. My favourite! Elsewhere Flash - pretty! Order of Whiteclay - Nice angle and facepaint Wooded Bastion - Awesome reference to Gilt Leaf Palace. The lines are so nice in it. Fire Lit Thicket - I'm amazed this isn't Wayne Reynolds who did Auntie's Hovel. The artist managed to copy his style quite well. Speaking of which I wish there was more Wayne Reynolds art in Shadowmoor. He's just awesome. Puppeteer Clique - So cool and descriptive. Farhaven Elf - Nice pose! Safehold Duo - Also very cool! Disturbing Plot - Haha I love the norwegian troll look. Wish the new boggarts all looked like that. Kinda like Mortiis looks! Memory Sluice - Great vibe. Sinister. Dream Salvage - Howard Lyon does such cool art. I love the story feel I get from looking at them. Toil to Renown - Classic d&d high fantasy feel.
Is it just me, or does the bottle in Elsewhere Flask have a tie on? I love it. Thanks for the visual spoiler. This makes deck building at the pre-release just that much easier. -Jack
I just add that Graven Cairns is a dark Ancient Amphitheater, Sunken Ruins is a reference BOTH to Wandervine Hub AND Rustic Clachan, and Mystic Gate is most probably referencing Door of Destinies.
Generally, the bearded bulb-eyed kithkin are looking great in most of the pictures. Same for the Shadowmoor elves.
Some cards that I do not like quite much:
Heartmender....REBECCA, WHY? I like your style, but this is a dreadful miss. Oversoul of Dusk Too bland for me, compared to others. Godhead and Demigod are great, Deus and Ghastlord are acceptable, but this...owwww Flow of Ideas - I think that this is a hot candidate for next year UGMadness.net "Most Ridiculous Close-up" Garfie award. I had to look at the damned thing thrice until I realized what it is.
Last but not least:
I always wondered how Darksteel Colossus can look like when he sheds the tough-guy armor and is wearing only its underpants. Now I know.

But Heartmender looks freaking awful. >< Put Away, though... that has awesome awesome art.
Oh, note that the Obliterator (or whoever the Cinders are after) supposedly broke them at the Cairns... which is the Amphitheatre in Lorwyn... which was the 'home' of Gallanda Feudkiller? Does that fit?
I'm a bit upset with Medicine Runner, in that I love the art, but the card is really nothing to get excited about. Being hardcore Vorthos, I'm of course going to play it (as it has good art and really neat flavor), but it could easily have had flash, which would have made sense (it being a runner) and given it much greater function.
Overall, this set looks great, with a few misses but some serious hits. Without a doubt, it's one of the most visually appealing sets in a long time.
I just realized. Mycoloth perfectly demonstrates the devour mechanic.
Mycoloth: NOMNOMNOM on Dragon Fodder.
One turn later, 1/1 turds come out.

btw i did it because i could. i was bored and decided to let my little med-free spree go ahead. I am bipolar, explaining all the drama that ensued after. I have problems.

the cemetary puca art is so boss... its amazing... i love shadowmoor!!!
Amen. Second best art in the set, next only to possibly the best piece of art on a magic card I have ever seen on Vexing Shusher. Fantastic; I need a playset of each of these cards just to oggle.
The art for this set is phenomenal; I love the hybrid lands and the lieges. Omar Rayyan is continuing to impress me, not only with Cemetary Puca but also with Kithkin Mob.
Heartmender is absolutely awful. Its not that is painted terribly (it is) but it looks like a wild boar mated with a spider. Absolutely terrible.
That said, apart from a few other failures (the cinders on a whole are unimpressive, and Guttural Response and Manamorphose are not good at all.) the art is top notch.

Do threads in this forum ever not get hijacked by the magical invisible hand of the market guys?
Illulia of Nighthearth? Is this a new person? (I didn't read the books...) Cause I'm thinking of building a deck with nothing but lands and cards with flavor text featuring this guy. All the ones I've read are awesome...

Illulia, flamekin soulstoke is quoted in a couple of flavor texts in LOR block, namely Streambed Aquitects and Kindled Fury. It can be deduced that she was the leader of the Brighthearth flamekin, a group that focused on helping the other races with the flamekin fire mastery. Now, as seen at Wound Reflection or Graven Cairns, Brighthearth transformed into Nighthearth, a cinder cult that focuses on spreading the misery of the cinder to the other races and trying to capture the Extinguisher and sacrifice her to rekindle the cinder race.

It is the Extinguisher, and it was no other than Ashling the Pilgrim and her transformation to godlike being at the end of Morningtide, that extinguished the light of the flamekin race. Hopefully, if they do not hunt her down, Ashling will carry the flame to the next day, the Lorwyn period, and if she agrees to give the power back, she rekindles the cinder again to flamekin.
The relation of Cairns and Amphitheater is pure artistic, not storywise.

I made a new thread, but I guess nobody is looking
I'll attach it here as well.
