I love the show! I miss Tom... and if I were to get $25 from RE some "Magical" way I'd give it to both my friends because they are starting to really get into magic (more than me which is scary to say the least for example: calling me at 2 o' clock in the morning to tell me about a 2 hour stalemate that they just had in a magic game) and they need a way to find the cards they want (they could definately use it). But if I were to use it I would prolly just finish a few casual decks.
Great Podcast Gavin and Derek, its a pity Tom couldn't be available to thrall us with his casual shenanigans. Although I found Derek trying to fill the void while Gavin had to leave for a few minutes hilarious.
If I were to win the contest the first thing I would do is buy out EVERY SINGLE FOIL VESPER GHOULRancoured Elf has in stock!!! (Check sig in case you don't believe me.) Once that has been added to the cart I would probably do as gavin suggested with squire and build a vesper ghoul monopoly on the market and drive up its prices:evillol:. And once that has been accomplished I would probably buy some pieces to my 5-Color deck. The most notable of which at the time would probably be something like Force of Will or a Bloodstained Mire. I would also probably buy one foil bottle gnomes simply because it would represent all that is fun (and refreshing;)) about playing highlander.
Keep up the good work and as for the SHA limited advice I've always found that if you can build around your bombs to make them more playable, it narrows down your options to make your draft easier. For instance if you have a Godhead of awe in your pool after the first pack, you should probably concentrate on U/ in the next pack. Although i'll admit the whole "stick to one color" advice was something new.
Keep up the good work guys, see you next week.
EDIT: After reading some of these posts, I wonder if Rancoured Elf would start cutting goyf's in half and selling them at about $25 per half. (Because you know they would sell:rolleyes:)
EDIT2: NOOOOO, SOMEONE BOUGHT ALL THE VESPER GHOULS FROM RE.com!!! :o:crying:I guess I'll have to buy a platinum angel then(My second favorite card), man at the rate vesper ghoul's are being bought they might be the new tarmogoyf:rolleyes:.
Gavin having to go help his mom has to be the funniest thing I have ever heard. I have never openly laughed at the show before and there you go.
$25 of Rancored Elf's cash would be spent on finishing up my wife's Kithkin Deck and my R/G Giant deck. Nothing clever, but $25 would about cover it.
Hello all and good job from Derek tiding over the unexpected situation.
For the prize I would spend (undoubtably large) part of it on international shippping and after finding how much that would cost, figure out what I could get. Too bad that Rancored does not have any Tabernacle of Pendrel Vales, as this would pay about one third of one. Another really cool card would be Thunder Dragon from Starter -99 as I have wanted one for couple of years but have not found one for trade during that time.
But to be honest I would most likely try to find some Shadowmoor cards that are valued lower than they are here in Finland and get as many of them as possible. I know that it's boring, but it would be the most cost effective way to use the credits.
Well the show was OK but I think what we all learned today is that Tom is the spoon that stirs the MTGCast goodness. Without Tom things get lumpy and burn, like when you leave soup on the stove and don't stir it. Also I'm not going to lie when Gavin's mom called him it was ridiculously awesome.
In regards to the comment contest I would Probably spend the 25 dollars on any card with pit or imp in the name because Tom is the master. If there was any left after that I would probably just buy like a swans of Bryn Argoll or some sideboard cards.
All hail Tom the spoon.
I would prob get chalice of the void playset if they are there or a force of will(why does this card have to cost so much:() This is because ive been playing more and more vintage lately.
I'd probably have the emotional edge if I told the bigger story.
But I'll tell the normal version. I'd like to buy legends for a friends'
collection, especially a green Kamahl

Good show guys. I was laughing the whole time. My new favorite moment of MTGcast is Gavin leaving to help his mom and you hear him get up and say "I'm coming" in the perfect mom-answer tone. It beats out the Gavin + Math = WTF moment. Was it just me or was Rocket especially vocal during this episode?
I would buy one of each scarecrow in Shadowmoor for my Reaper King EDH deck (currently using a Proken as the general:(). Or maybe I would put it toward a Tolarian Academy if they had any. Or i might invest in some Unset basic lands.
I was really impressed with the air time sharing between Gavin and Derek. There were very few times that you talked over each other. Good job guys.

EDH Generals: Scion of the Ur-Dragon; Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker; Stonebrow, Krosan Hero; Azami, Lady of Scrolls; Razia, Boros Archangel; Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker; Verdeloth the Ancient; Karn, Silver Golem; Crovax, Ascendant Hero; Reaper King; Oona, Queen of the Fae

I'd buy a Foil Chameleon Colossus from RE's site, equaling PRECISELY $25... it'd go in my EDH deck. It's like the perfect card for an EDH and it would look so pimp with my Ext Art Doran from Champs, my Foil Garruk and my Artistically Altered Cheese Stands Alone Edition of Barren Glory. The deck needs a Cham Colossus and I've never owned one before.
And as far as this week's show goes, I love the unedited version - Momma's Boy FTW!!! I hate when I'm on Magic Online and I have to run and take care of something for my Grandma that leaves my clock down to 10 Minutes and I've got to speed through the win... or just lose out when I should win.
And I've got something special for the call in... I'm totally taking advantage of it this week.
I love the show guys and look forward to listening every week since I discovered it this last winter. Hey, I'm sure no one noticed that Tom didn't edit the episode. If I had $25 I would buy another Chameleon Colossus and maybe another Llanowar Wastes for my elf deck that has been pounding on my friend that taught me how to play Magic 7 years ago. In a recent smack talk email I included this and it left him stupified: "The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the master." Darth Vader
With your powers of the force (combined with $25) I can rule the galaxy (or at least my old friend)
Tom was definitely missed, but if Tom had been there we wouldn't have heard Gavin rush off at his mom's request -- that was priceless. So for that selfish reason I am glad Tom wasn't there to edit it out, but I hope he's back next week.
OK, comment contest. I'm super cheap and can't normally justify buying a rare that costs more than a few bucks, so I'd buy a few ~$8 rares for my casual decks -- and kick in a little more money to get more cards.
I really need a 4th Elvish Champion for my elf decks, so I'd like to buy one of those. My Urza's Saga set is missing 5 cards so I'd ask Rancored Elf if he has any of those rares (Shivan Hellkite, Sneak Attack, Argothian Wurm, Exploration, Lifeline). I'd also like 3x Gilt-Leaf Palace, 4x Groundbreakers, 4x 10th edition Llanowar Elves...

I'd honestly have to agree with some of the peoples and say with the $25 credit at RE.com i'd go for the dragon set.. Or i'd end up using it all up to build my Suicidal Tendancies deck. so i can sweep the floor at FNM's
Also, for those people who had Direct Questions regarding Shadowmoor Drafting, Both Gavin and Derek mention the truth, but it seems they left out a very small detail. that i picked up, As a Beta Tester for SHM online it seems that the drafting is alot more difficult due to the lack of signaling (which they both mentioned) and the lack of power cards, the occaisional power cards such as Nom-Nom and Rammer, are powerhouses for Any G/R or whatever you choose build. Due to the overall Lack of decent cards that do anything other than stall, because of the large nature of the set as a whole it's alittle more nerve wracking to draft. so you'll need to overall look at the Booster in front of you alittle longer, so the Draft Cap will usually run low before you choose. which puts alot of pressure on you the player to pick, and it can overall kill you as a player, because of the large amount of color choices, and the difficult choices

With $25 store credit I would buy commons and uncommons from before I started playing Magic to start work on a new cube for my playgroup. At PT Hollywood the person who had a cube for our playgroup had his stolen so we need a new one. And if I couldn't find enough commons and uncommons to equal $25 dollars I'd buy some foil commons and uncommons and obscure rares for our new cube. Great show as always guys!
