T1: land, stalwart
T2: land, cenn, red zone for 3
T3: land, some one drop, and either a second cenn or a meadowgrain along with more beats.
this guy, albeit a flashy play, clogs up turns that are better used playing better stuff.
Yeah but what happens when your opening hand doesn't contain a Stalwart or a Meadowgrain? This guy makes a decent approximation of either one in the early turns and then gets bigger later. I agree that he's better as a finisher, but the fact that you have the ability to drop him turn 1 or 2 just helps to ensure you curve out well.
I feel the need to start a thread involving nicknames of new cards.
mods, please stop me if it's not all right to do such a thing here.
Nice card though. I had "pikachu" in mind for the nick, as optimus' (physical) colors are red and blue, while Pikachu is yellow (rough trans into white) and brownish (rough trans into red). On that note, Pikachu has red cheeks. Oh well, ill probably be calling this card "Optimus Prime" too, if it ever hits Constructed tourneys of any kind, even casual...

Alright, for all the nay-sayers I have added a larger picture including the poster background, unfortunately my smaller image isn't really any better, I wish I could double the DPI on this thing. and while i'm decent in photoshop, even I can't fake a poster crease that you can clearly see if you looked. -_-;
imagine playing this in monowhite..
shields of velis vel for 1w and pump it with whatever amount of mana you have. this could be used possily in a janky mana ramp.
actually in extended this could be used in a rdw deck that uses seething song & vexing shusher. hmm...

Obviously if you draw the perfect curve you're going to want to play it. The beauty of this card isn't that it's the best X-drop in your deck, it's that it can fill pretty much any position when your draw isn't perfect - which is most of the time. From a deckbuilding perspective, it lets you spread out your curve more, since it fills several spots at once.
It's definitely one of the most unusual mechanics I have seen so far, and I just don't know how to evaluate it. At the least it's a 1-drop that has the potential to grow, and it can become more and more relevant as time passes. Worst case scenario they hurl hate at it, which could be fine if you still pack enough huge threats, and it can leave an opponent with a hard call to make - a nasty critter now, or a small critter that can become nasty later. I dunno, I'll be watching this one to see what it does, and to be on the safe side I might pick up a playset.

Yeah! Like lets say you didn't have stalwart in your opening hand, this guy can make a decent substitute with 1 extra mana payed while Cenn is out you can have a 1/1 be a 2/2 with cenn out, or a 2/2 becomes a 3/3, a 4/4 becomes a 5/5 with 1 cenn out and a 8/8 becomes a 9/9 while cenn is out.
Its a POTENTIAL threat to the opponent because at 1/1 or 2/2 its not that BIG of a threat, then when it becomes a 4/4 it posses a bit more a threat but not on the radar enough to say its going to own you in 1 punch but when it hits 8/8 with Flying & First Strike it then posses a major-threat to your opponent that must be take down fast.
This is one of the coolest cards I've seen in years. It's so simple and elegant, and it's the type of card that makes me want to play aggro again.
For a while now, I've been brainstorming a casual 5 color aggro deck with a mana base built around Pillar of the Paeruns reflecting pool and the like, but the 1 drop slots have been horible. But with this guy, and tattermunge maniac, I'm pretty set.
EDIT: Ah, that's why the foil sheen didn't carry over to the text...it's a poster. Hmmm...I'm still speculative, as we've had more convincing fakes before (Anyone else remember the 9th Edition "Power 9" fake poster? XD)

Dude, quit it. It's real. Next person to say it's fake will be infracted. Y'all be spammin' this thread with nonsense.
As with all pump creatures, this one it potentially bigger as long as you have the mana open to upgrade it. So, considering he is 2/2 with 3 mana open to make him 4/4, your opponent is in for a tough call when it comes to blocking. That way, he will get through in cases where a mere 2/2 would be blocked. You can still use those 3 mana in your second main phase for another thread or removal or whatever.
And, if he comes mid game, you can play him for 1 mana, hold your mana open during your opponents turn if needed for some instants, and, if not, upgrade him eot...
... hm. Seen that way, if there is really any kind of cycle of those guys, any blue one might be amazing. Play it cheap, keep your counter mana open, and upgrade your thread whenever you have mana left eot...
It would just be cruel and unusual to make a blue one of these. lol
Scratch that, it'd be more typical than unusual.
Wow. I love this card. Potential memory issues aside, everything it does it just so neat. Plays out as either a 2/2 for 1 with "echo" or a 2/2 for 2 that has a permanent Shade-style ability. Awesome when backed up by a Mogg Fanatic or a Stalwart or even another copy of itself. Great choice for the prerelease card as it definately appeals to a lot of the playerbase.
Wow, this card is something entirely new. It's a card which upgrades itself into better versions(permanently). Play it first turn as a 1/1, 2nd turn pay 1 to make it a 2/2, 3rd turn pay 3 to make it a 4/4 and then turn 5 pay 5 to make it a 8/8 and give it flying and first strike. I'd consider playing it as another decent 1 drop in a kithkin or red deck if nothing else, its nice in that it allows you to improve your board position without using up your hand.
It won't come up often, but you can make this guy SMALL again after you upgrade him.
You know, in response to a Sower trigger or something.
What a cool card.

Everything is true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true, false, and meaningless in some sense. Repeat this 666 times and you will reach enlightenment.
In some sense. The only good fnord is a dead fnord.
Does anyone think they got it the wrong way round?
Surely the kithkin should become a Warrior, then a Spirit.
Why would a spirit go on to be a warrior?
Ground Zero (1/1): Your just another face in the crowd who doesn't seem important
Next Stage (2/2): Your body begins to become spiritual with the world around you.
Next Level (4/4): You have been fighting valiantly against evil and becoming a beacon to those around you.
Final (8/8): You have become the very torch in the darkness to lead your kin to victory as those around you see you as a higher being and one who promises of victory.

Think of it like that...
That just doesn't make as much sense as:
1) Your just normal guy (1/1 kithkin)
2) You train and become a warrior (2/2 kith warrior)
3) You fight on eternally (kith spirit warrior)
4) ditto above
Is it possible they messed up the poster? I know they've messed up on stuff like that before.
Not that great. It's an exciting new "mechanic", and a great design by Wizards, but it doesn't quite work. It starts out well, looking like you simply add mana to make it bigger, but it eventually costs you too much to get what you get. It's cool in the fact that it's essentially a 2/2 that can swing on turn 2, and occasionally grow if you don't draw any more threats, etc. Morphing your early curve into your finishers is a nice trick, but I think there are too many solid cards in each respective mana curve, that this guy doesn't have a home.
