woooooooow, that was a long cast 1 hour 16 min, 50 sec.
lots of things to talk about.
very nice tom with the blowfly deck I hope it gets even better when eventide comes out so you can top 8 (and by that I mean get first) and get interviewed by MTG.com as the man who broke the format.
Also helix pinnacle is not a bad card, you just have to be playing enchantress in legacy format. Turns out it is pretty good.
Also to mr. aynonomus ( I think I spelled you name wrong) play threshold if you want to be like everyone else. Build goblins or affinity if you want to have fun and dont have much money. if you have a little more money build enchantress or standstill or aggro loam, if you have $600-$700 lying around build 38 lands deck.
concering the g/w little boy deck, it kinda sucks I played with it and it is simply to slow to play with. You will not win a top 4 with this deck, however sideboard tech time. Last Breath is awesome for any white build out there as a quasi removal spell. good against kithkin and shamans, and elementals. someguy pulled out 2x treefolk harbinger, doran, and swings FOR ZERO HAHAHAHA
as for eventide I am trying to build a new block deck but I have not had time to play test it, if anyone is willing will you proxy this and playtest against faeries for me,
8 swamps
4 twilight mire
2 gilt leaf palace
10 forest
I mirror matched it on MWS and gave myself a headache, but have not been able to test against kithkin and faeries, pretty sure this will do fine against the kithin, not sure about fae.
Also if anyone would like to make suggestions on this thats fine with me
and just to get this straight Worlds is going to be in Memphis Tenn this year right, i keep hearing conflicting reports from people as to where it is going to be at. If it is there I hope you guys have a booth set up so I can come over and visit (do you know if they will have a legacy side event there)
It was really good to see Gavin get spotlighted on the mothership website. Congrats on the PTQ btw.
I was actually blowfly brother #3 (Charlie), and I must say that Derek and Tom are two of the nicest guys that I've had chance to meet. I won't have a chance to get to the Minneapolis because I'll be in Seattle (ironically), but not seeing Gavin haha! I might try to get to Chicago on the 30th of August.
I'm not sure where I'm going to head with the eventide release. I don't see myself building a deck around eventide cards, but I do see some eventide cards fitting into my current decks. A counter-burn deck could be potentially fun.
I LOVE the Blowfly deck - I was doing a little bit of work on a green / black blowfly infestation deck, but I didn't think it would be fast enough to compete in the format. Eventide has a really nice card for Blowfly decks - Soul Snuffers.
Everlasting Torment makes everything wither, which will power up Blowfly Infestation and especially Flourishing Defenses. Incremental blight is great removal, and I have the Scarscale Ritual + Dusk Urchins combo in there, too. Grim Poppet also benefits from everything having wither, and Deity of Scars can heal from wither damage. Or you can just overrun with 1/1 elves.
I haven't played constructed since I played mono black Rogues for City Champs. But if I was going to pilot a deck, I would like to play mono black aggro control. The amount of amazing removal, hand destruction (the Retrace one is nutz), and powerful creatures (I like the (B/W) liege with Unmake to 2 for 1 them) is really strong. Only problem is dealing with Bitterblossom. Other than running it myself, I wouldn't have a Main deck answer for it. Although the 3/3 that puts a -1/-1 counter on each creature when it comes into play would even the board. It's just needs something at instant speed to deal with Faeries (Sulfurous Blast or Cloudthresher). Plenty of cards to work with, but I think splashing green would be needed to have Evoke for thresh and a way to destroy Bitterblossom. Although you could probably play B/W because a lot of those decks are being speculated right now. Other than that, I've been paying a lot of attention to the turn 3 kill ala Devoted Druid (turn 1 off a Simian Spirit Guide) and Quillspike turn 2, then burn the way and swing for the win turn 3. I like G/r in that deck because it offers 8 searching spells (Commune with Nature and Summoner's Pact) and red allows for ways to plow through (Burn, Fury Charm for trample, Crimson Wisps for haste). I just wish there was a way to protect the poor 2 card infinite p/t combo. Once you get a Quillspike with an active Devoted Druid, it's pretty hard to stop the Quillspike, so their burn/removal will be aimed at the Druid. Not too many worthwhile ways to save the Druid.
Good luck to all and enjoy it... 3 more months until we go from 9 sets in standard to 6! Standard is going to change A LOT!
Thanks for the analysis of Little Kid Green White. I should have specified that I wasn't necessarily intending to use it to win a PTQ, just playing in general Block tourneys.
In my experience, the deck is one of the most fun turn-'em-sideways-and-SMASH decks I've ever played. There are some definite holes/weaknesses, though, at least after game 1 when your opponent has sided in any Shield hate. Condemn makes indestructible attackers cry
As far as Eventide goes, on the day of the prerelease I was intent on getting 4x Cold-eyed Selkie and building something around it. By the end of the day, I'd decided on UG aggro, but I've since decided against it for budgetary reasons. I simply find myself building too many decks, which costs more and more $$$.
As Gavin mentioned, Eventide as a whole just doesn't seem as exciting as some previous sets, so I'm hesitant to build anything new around any of the new cards. I might toss some into decks here and there (I haven't decided any specifics yet), but nothing Eventide-focused.
With eveningtide im planning on building an Evershriek deck with the new W/B aura, other good cheap auras, nip and other utility cards/auras (with idylic tutor to pull out a few diffrent bullet auras/enchantments)
and note - i own a vizzerdrix and love him. he reminds me of one of my favourite movies Donnie Darko.
Sweet deck! I have a U/B Blowfly deck that is a lot of fun and did well until Oversoul of Dusk comes into play. The biggest differences between our two decks is I went for a slower style and ran 4 Dusk Urchins as well as Midnight Banshee & Grim Poppet. Grim Poppet is just nuts with Blowfly in play!
Anyway, the deck I'll be working on is a U/B(/R?) deck with River Kelpie, good persist guys and the retrace ability. My thoughts are to keep it block, but I haven't studied the new set yet so it may end up being better off as a Standard deck with Crucible of Worlds.

Main point... for the Sheer Enjoyment... Soul Snuffers Eliminates All of the Faeries created by Bitterblossom (minus Scion Games of course) as well as Weakening the larger creatures that your opponent can drop, forcing them to either sac something to Ashes (possibly giving you a Critter due to Skitter) or triggering a Blowfly Loop. Nuking the majority of thier Army (and hopefully you have a Skitter on the field) i guess i made it for more of a Casual crowd... and i've had zero experience with playtesting as my MODO Client is dead... And yes, i was playing it before you did the show. i was doing infinite life with blowfly/defenses/essense warden, but also using Grim Poppet, Scar, and stuff to make an army of tokens while repeatedly wrathing the board. (of my opponent's creatures)
Edit: Apparently i wasn't aware you were looking for blowfly decks or i would hav sent you mine too.
Tom did you get to guest write on MTG.com there is a massive article about the ole blowfly deck on there, not exactly the same as yours but, I was hoping you might have made a guest appearance.
Great cast guys. The only constructed format I play anymore is EDH, and there are a few Eventide Cards that might make the cut. The retrace cards are actually pretty good, especially Oona's Grace. The R/W and B/W lieges look pretty good too. Keep up the good work guys.

Hey guys, great cast
A deck i'm thinking of for the post eventide block deck is a green based aggro deck with black or red as the second color. The power of the Maniac and nettle sentinel at the one slot just reminds me of the period when both savanah lions and issamaru were in standard. They just seem nuts together. Also, the new Talara's Battalion at the two slot seems realy powerfull. For all those nay-sayers who say "you can't play the battalion on turn two" just remember one card: Manamorphose. Plus, if you don't get the manamorphose with the battalion, you can always play it on turn three with a one drop. All these cards seem really powerful and make for a good, strong deck. Please leave your comments and ideas for this deck.
Anonymous in NY, Play enchantress. Just to show Jack from North Carolina up, in my list I find reason to run 1x helix pinnacle in the sideboard, just for the mirror. Enchantress is amazingly fun, as you get to have so many hosers (1-and 2-ofs, you run tutors and a ton of draw). The best thing I'd give for Enchantress is the ability to adapt to unknown metas. Besides, everyone plays thresh.
Great job, guys. It seems that those Walmart promo packs would be fun to draft. Random thoughts XD. On a note about the people who just pick up the Faeries deck without knowing what you are doing, you can tell who these players are. You just crush them, and they whine, but you know if they were a good player, the results would have been very different.
Great show again guys. Gavin I sent you the U/ faerie ramp list that I took to the KY open. I went 2-3 drop. I had two really terrible games due to land and a very close matchup with faeries. It was very promising though and I had a ton of fun shaking things up. The two games I won were vs fae and merfolk. It really would have benefited from the coming U/ filter land. I am excited after seeing eventide for a new deck idea not the one I'm posting but one that I've been working on for a while and think eventide is bringing enough to the table to round it out.
anyway one deck I'm pretty set on building post eventide is R/ featuring maybe
Great cast guys, 3 is always better than 2 when it comes to Monday night magic well done Tom on getting out to a tournament and spreading the word of Blowfly Infestation. Gavin/Derek, is 5-2 really such a terrible finish? Or are you guys at the stage where you're in PTQs to win, and less than that is a disappointment? I can imagine playing 7 rounds of faerie mirrors only to go home empty handed just to come back for some more faerie action the next week must be pretty frustrating, but is there still fun to be had doing better than most in a PTQ?
My super-secret tech for block is born of my prerelease deck, mirrorgoats:
oh, and should i win a comment contest prize at any stage, could it please be signed by as many mtgcast hosts as possible? That'd be really great Unless it's a mint alpha Black Lotus, then untouched and hermetically sealed in a special titanium coated top loader will be fine.

Awesome show again, thanks to Eventide's Figure of Destiny, I think I may have ported a bad version of Death and Taxes to Standard (yay Restore Balance !).
But anyway...thanks to Block, I have more distractions from my studies -_- . Due to my exam timetables for this year falling on PTQs and Prereleases, I can't build anything. But I'm damn sure if I got a signed Blowfly Infestation, I'd build that and tune it like mad. I swear; for real, I'll even try to make one of my teammates test it, like it and field it at PTQ (^^;
Gavin/Derek, is 5-2 really such a terrible finish? Or are you guys at the stage where you're in PTQs to win, and less than that is a disappointment?
Pretty much, after a certain point even just Top8ing isn't good enough. I would rather go 0-2 drop than go 5-2 or worse yet scrub out in the Top8(again:-/).
I've been saying it for a while now,and still feel the same way as I did then. Eventide, though good for Block, will not make a big impact until the extended season. I've almost given up on Block and close to giving up on Type 2 in favor of preparing for the new extended. One of the decks I've got built is a Boros variant and has tested well, with the exception against counterbalence, which destroys this deck. I'll post the list here and let you all see it.
