I'd definitely become a friend of [Pages], what with the flat lined with bookcases and all. I'm currently reading Stardust - despite loving Neil Gaiman, I somehow never managed to read it through before.
Stardust is one of those rare occasions where I might have preferred the movie to the book. Actually, I wouldn't say that I preferred the movie but I would say that I like how well they adapted it. I'm not going to say anything too spoiler-iffic but the movie and the book are very very different at the end and had the movie ended like the book did, I don't think it would've been very good (and vice versa).
Well, after a four hour flight between two 'big' guys, both of which took up all the armrests and didn't seem to understand the concept of 'personal space' when it relates to other people (meaning, I was scrunched up and miserable), then an hour and a half drive home, I'm home.
Awe man, that's the worst. When I flew to Vancouver I was squished between two guys from the same rugby team. Not only were they huge but they also insisted on holding onto their trophy whilst in their chair. Good thing the flight was less than 2 hours because I'm not sure if I could've handled more than that.
Congrats on the new clan Omna and Purple! May your clan live long :).
Thanks, Psi!
Well I'm posting earlier that usual to test to see if I'm going to get the last post of the night again... we'll see
On another note, my buddy and I just bought a box of eventide. We're going to grab 5 packs, make sealed decks and then play them then we're going to open all the packs and then whoever wins the sealed game will have first pick when it comes to picking the rares we want... I think it's a cool way to split a box
Sorry I haven't been here more recently. I've just been feeling bleh and doing something else, then realizing I'll need sleep and probably won't be able to finish a post with everything in it that night. Currently getting stuff for the apartment, about a month away from moving in now.
Hello and welcome, Shinobi!
Nice grades, PurpleD!
Sounds like a fun trip, Psychoburner! I went to a ren faire a real long time ago and loved it.
Congratulations on making [Pages], Omna and PurpleD!
Happy birthday to your father, AL!
I have a report on my release, but I'd rather go to bed now than post it, so that'll be later.

Yea, thats how my friends and I do it...sorta... We buy a box and draft, then 1st place gets first pick, 2nd place gets second pick, etc... until all the cards are gone :).
Just had breakfast (around 3:40 pm). Now enjoying a nice cup o' coffee (my second one). Have to do my paper round this afternoon. First make some banners or something.
Yawn.
I miss kevin's decks.
Hey Dinfiltrator! Long time no see.
Congrats on the clan Danica & D! I'd like to be a friend
@ Al; Happy birthday to your dad
Hello Zaphod its good to see you post in the house again. Its good to see your doing well. Awww yeah I haven't really been working on anything exclusively for the legacy format as of late just been pretty busy with life.
@alacar: I wish your dad well and happy birthday to him!
Anyway back to studying for me then a 6 hour shift see you all later though.
Oh yes, of course, to Alacar.. happy birthday to your dad! I hope he has an awesome one! (or had... i might be late..?)
So i'm going to grab some lunch here in a bit.. Hopefully PurpleD will show up at some point today/tonight so that we can post [Pages]
Off to lunch for me.. today i am REALLY tired... I don't know why, besides the fact that i'm still getting over jetlag and i went to bed pretty late the last couple nights.. Ok maybe those are good reasons
Have a good rest of the day folks if i don't poke in here again (but I likely will :p)
Oh by the way, I'll be gone after Wednesday afternoon after work, for the weekend, so if we can get past 2500 by TUesday or Wednesday, I'll post up a new thread before I leave to go to South Carolina for a friend's wedding.. I'll be gone from Wednesday night til Sunday afternoon.... I'll be exhausted coming back, I know it.. I'm taking a 24 hour bus ride both ways.. Ugh..
EDIT: Cool quote from today's teabag tag:

Thanks for the birthday wishes, folks. Dad's been lounging around all day and enjoying himself. We had pancakes for breakfast earlier. We already had his birthday party earlier last week.
Oh, and how was the movie, Omna?
On an unrelated note: Please, folks.. don't call me AL. I feel like I'm on Married with Children when people call me that. Alacar or Ala is fine.

Nice to see you and your family enjoy the birthday.
Ohhh I guess Alacar has changed his mind about kicking people's butts when they call you other terms besides Ala or alacar. Just kidding.
PurpleD: It was severely unpleasant. My back was aching the rest of the day from having to be in such an uncomfortable position. But hey, it's over.
I saw The Dark Knight as well, and I have to say that its one of those pictures that restores my faith in movies. It had plenty of 'cool', but it also had a story and developed all the characters pretty damn well. It also wasn't afraid to dwell in its own darkness. The Joker was absolutely amazing. And they set him up for more, though that can't happen now. I mean, who could replace Heath Ledger now?
I do, though, have a complaint or to. Biggest is that the DA doesn't really get enough screen time after his main event. People that have seen the thing will know what I'm talking about.
In any case, Nai needs to pick up dogs today from the boarding kennel, and needs to play some DDR. And... Badly needs to get used to less oxygen again.
And they set him up for more, though that can't happen now. I mean, who could replace Heath Ledger now?
I do, though, have a complaint or to. Biggest is that the DA doesn't really get enough screen time after his main event. People that have seen the thing will know what I'm talking about.
While I don't think that they'll have another movie that features Joker as the main villain, I think it's nearly impossible for them to do another movie without having the Joker provide some segue into the next villain. I'm thinking that the next villains may be either the Harley/Poison Ivy combo or maybe even Bane.
If they do need to have the Joker in it, it would indeed be very difficult to replace Ledger. Nicholson set the bar, Ledger topped it and now the only actor that I can think of with the raw talent to do it would be Johnny Depp, but that would be very risky.
I have the same complaint that you did. He has such a huge role in the comics to make such a short (and somewhat superfluous) appearance in the movie.
Geez, it seems Omna and I can't seem to synch up our schedules to finally get our clan moving.
And yes, I was actually really moved by the DA's role... i thought he did an amazing job.. I don't think anybody can really beat Heath Ledger, but seriously, i thought he did great. I've got questions and want to discuss stuff about the movie, but I'm not sure whether to discuss it here would be safe, as I'm not sure everyone has seen it yet.
Here is an legacy deck I have been working on its a threshold deck basically except it uses kitchen finks which can be pretty good in the mirror because of it's chump blocking capability. I haven't been working on the deck for quite awhile though. But here is my list:
I will start out with the sideboard since sideboarding can vary greatly from each respective metagame.
I feel that hydroblast/blue elemental blasts are a must in today's metagame especially with the vast increase in aggro-loam and the fact that aggro loam is one of the biggest reasons that threshold is on the decline in the legacy format.
Pithing needle is of course good against a wide range of decks from landstill to survival. It's also nice to have a card that can save you from cards that otherwise inhibit your aggro plan like vedalken shackles.
Gaddock Teeg is substantially better then meddling mage against landstill particularly the UWb landstill version. Having an threat that can shut off multiple answers that landstill has is invalueble in my book. You can basically shut off Engineered explosives, humility, and wrath while having counterbalance take care of everything else.
Krosan grip is too good of a card not to run in the board. I would never leave home without them.
Ravages of War/Armageddon: Particularly good against control obviously but sometimes it can be good in some other matchups as well.
I like running graveyard hate in all of my sideboards especially with the metagame we have now with Ichorid and aggro loam running around all over the place.
Mainboard is pretty simple you have engineered explosives for the mirror and other metagame uses. Predict has always been stellar in threshold because it's a reliable draw engine in threshold. Also predict can fill the grave quicker so you can be more aggressive early. However, in my opinion being aggressive early isn't as relevant as it used to be otherwise threshold players would still run mental note.
Obviously swords to plowshares is the best removal in the format and counterbalance is pretty good.
What if I was your bodyguard, and you were my long lost pal?
Fantastic
For the next Batman movie, I have this crazy notion to bring Danny DeVito back as the penguin. I think he did an awesome job and the character as Burton crafted it would still fit right into the style of the new movies.
Ledger was certainly amazing, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's irreplaceable. I mean, who'd have thought Ledger would give the performance that he did? So what's to say someone else can't do as good a job.
So... is anyone coming to Chicago for nationals? I plan on being there for at least part of the time (probably Saturday) and I'd love to say hi.

Gaddock seems substancially worse than Mage when you run 4 FoW and 2 Explosives MD (which are in against Control), and Geddon coming in vs some control too.
I love me some Kitchen Finks in the Rock, but 3 for a 3/2, even a recurring one, seems under the curve for Threshold.
3 Crypts are good, but you're probably still disadvantaged in those Matchups even with them.
Otherwise, only comsetic changes (-1 Counterbalance, +1 Ponder, maybe some other optional things.)
___________
Hi Everyone, sorry for not posting much. I've been reading along, but I don't always have much to say.
My life is as eventful as ever, which is to say, not at all.
Yeah I appreciate the positive feed back and thanks. Glad you like my list.
I still like the fact to run 4 counterbalance though just because they are too strong not to run a 4 of. Not saying that your suggestions are bad though because they are not. Especially considering ponder should be a 4-of. As for the gaddock teeg vs FOW and EE debate obviously in a lot of matchups I see myself boarding in teegs for EEs and vice versa if needed. Regardless though boarding in teeg is pretty strong against landstill decks that run humility, wraths, and EEs. But in green splash landstill decks that run pernicious deeds meddling mage would probably take the cake there which gives me another good reason to run a 3rd pithing needle. I would probably pitch my 18th land in favor of another needle. Otherwise I appreciate the constructive feedback that you gave me.
Your correct Nick about the aggro loam matchup and the ichorid matchup I will not be favored still in those matchups even postboard. Generally those two matchups are bad for threshold to begin with anyway.
Concerning Ledger and the Joker: The thing is, when a great actor comes along, it's almost impossible to replace them in the same continuity. Ledger has already shown the Joker in the current series. The whole flicking of the tongue thing and sucking of the lip, his off-kilter attitude. You'd have to perfect those to be able to pull it off. I mean, in a similar circumstance, do you think anyone could have replaced Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow?
I don't think the Harley/Poison Ivy will work for obvious reasons. Especially since the latter was screwed by Uma Thurman's performance.
Am I the only one that thought Harley's 'second half' was underdone, and almost an afterthought in the movie? I thought they were setting him up for the next movie, personally.
I don't think the Harley/Poison Ivy will work for obvious reasons. Especially since the latter was screwed by Uma Thurman's performance.
I don't blame Uma Thurman for that by any means. Uma didn't write lines like "Curses!" and "You can't resist the wiles of my lips". Joel Schumacher is 100% to blame for the abomination that was Batman and Robin. I think the return of Poison Ivy would be just fine (I mean, Tommy Lee Jones is also a great actor who played a God-awful 2-Face and look how the return of that character turned out), though I imagine a more well-known character like Catwoman or Penguin would return first. (BTW, I loved that Dark Knight tossed in the fact that Scarecrow was still at large without making him the focus of the plot.)
Am I the only one that thought Harley's 'second half' was underdone, and almost an afterthought in the movie? I thought they were setting him up for the next movie, personally.
I think there's some confusion. 2-Face is Harvey Dent, not Harley. I'm not sure if that was PurpleD's mistake or if he meant Harley Quinn, but I doubt Harley would show up as anything but the Joker's sidekick.
I do agree I was surprised at how small a role 2-Face played in the film considering he's a major villain; I definitely thought he was being set up for the next movie as well. But honestly it was kind of refreshing to see a villain play a small role that fit the story perfectly than to try and force a bigger part out of it. Just as it was refreshing to see an actress who feels more "real" rather than someone gorgeous and glamerous play the assistant DA. (Sorry Maggie Gyllenhall, you're just not very attractive by Hollywood standards. But you did do a way better job of acting than Katie Holmes, so she can kiss your ass.)

Yup, I totally agree. I think Schumacher tried too hard to make the movie feel like a comic book... in the comics, cheesy lines are humorous and are used to identify characters a little bit better (Mr. Freeze: "Let's kick some ice", "ice to meet you") but in a movie they just sound corny and forced. You can hardly blame the acting for poor writing.
I think there's some confusion. 2-Face is Harvey Dent, not Harley. I'm not sure if that was PurpleD's mistake or if he meant Harley Quinn, but I doubt Harley would show up as anything but the Joker's sidekick.
I did indeed mean Harley Quinn. Like I said earlier, they may use a brief joker appearance to segue into another storyline... maybe Joker is sent to Arkham and Harley wants to get revenge! And we all know how close Harley and Ivy are...
Okay, so maybe that's a stretch but I do love both of those characters.
(Sorry Maggie Gyllenhall, you're just not very attractive by Hollywood standards. But you did do a way better job of acting than Katie Holmes, so she can kiss your ass.)
I wasn't at all sad when I heard Gyllenhaal was casted to replace Katie Holmes. Holmes is a decent actress but she was indeed jst put in the movie to play the hopelesslly attractive vulnerable female.
I don't blame Uma Thurman for that by any means. Uma didn't write lines like "Curses!" and "You can't resist the wiles of my lips". Agreed, 100%. Uma Thurman is a good actress. It was just the role, and the film, that dragged it down. Same goes for Jones.
As for Catwoman and Penguin, Chris Nolan has said that he's unlikely to do those next, though he isn't even signed for a third Batman yet.
I think there's some confusion. 2-Face is Harvey Dent, not Harley. I'm not sure if that was PurpleD's mistake or if he meant Harley Quinn, but I doubt Harley would show up as anything but the Joker's sidekick.

Again, agreed. Harley Quinn is Joker's sidekick, but also a villainess in her own right.
Two-Face's appearance in Dark Knight was a welcome one, and well played by Aaron Eckhart (Thank You For Smoking; a good film if you can catch it). It continues Nolan's trend of having two villains in a movie instead of just one. While it was a bit odd to see Two-Face come and go so quickly, there is only so much you CAN do with the character before it starts to get repetitive.
If a third Batman movie is gonna be made by Nolan, then it'll probably revolve around Gordon having to chase Batman down, and how Batman turns from vigilante crimefighter to a respected but mysterious superhero.
Nothing going on with me right now except a big fishing tournament in a week and a half......cant wait!:D

I wasn't at all sad when I heard Gyllenhaal was casted to replace Katie Holmes. Holmes is a decent actress but she was indeed jst put in the movie to play the hopelesslly attractive vulnerable female.

As for Catwoman and Penguin, Chris Nolan has said that he's unlikely to do those next, though he isn't even signed for a third Batman yet.
