Golden Rules
-If at any time you have a question regarding the rules, PM the moderator.
-The moderator’s ruling is final.
-The moderator may break any rules.
-This is a game. Have fun!
Roles
-You may not quote your role PM.
-Be careful when paraphrasing your role PM.
-Violating these rules will result in an unconditional modkill.
Voting and unvoting for lynch.
-Bold your text when voting, unvoting, or FOSing. For example, Vote: Absolutionis would be a valid vote.
-If you wish to change your vote, use the bolded “Unvote” command to withdraw your previous vote. For example, Unvote: Absolutionis would be a valid withdrawal of a vote. If you vote without unvoting and you do not have any remaining votes, your second votes does not count.
-Bold your text when performing a “Finger of Suspicion” or FOS. For example, FOS: Absolutionis would be a valid FOS.
-Do not vote for Absolutionis.
-Violation of any of the voting rules will likely result in your vote being ignored either intentionally or unintentionally.
Communication and Phases
-You may post at any time in the thread during the “day” phase. The day phase ends when a lynch occurs.
-You may not post in the thread during the “night” phase.
-You may not post nor PM anyone in the game if you are dead. The exception would be a single post having no pertinence to the game. A “Bah” post in a sense. A "bah" post is a post that I can copy+paste into any other Mafia game and it would still be sensical.

Roles - Town
-In Mafia, there are two basic roles - Townie and Mafioso. Townies are the 'good guys' and Mafioso are the 'bad guys'.
-Townies are of the Town faction and are made up of those trying to figure out the identities of the killers and prevent them from killing again. For the town to win, they must kill all members of the mafia.
-The Town Cop has the ability to target a player and discern whether that player is town or mafia once per night.
-The Town Doctor has the ability to target a player and prevent that player from being killed that night.
Roles - Mafia
-In Mafia, there are two basic roles - Townie and Mafioso.
-Mafioso, will win when they exceed or equal the town in number (at which point, they control the lynch). They may also post during the day and use both votes and FOSes. However, they have another tool - the ability to nightkill.
-While the game is in night, the mafia may communicate with each other. Then, one of them will send me the name of one living player to be killed.
-Once I have received the mafia’s Night Choice, as well as the choice of any other player with a night ability, I will post a morning scene detailing the public results of the previous night (i.e. who died), and Day will start.
Other Roles you should be Aware of
-The game of Mafia may have many roles aside from the ones mentioned above. The following roles are newbie-friendly roles may or may not be in this game:
-Tracker - A townie that may, every night, see if a target player performed a night action that night.
-Watcher - A townie that may, every night, see if a target player was targetted with a night action that night.
-Vigillante - A townie that has the ability to kill at night. This ability is usually restricted as being once-per-game or upon death only or other modifiers.
-Mason - Two or more townies that have the ability to talk at night
-Backup Cop/Doc - A townie which if the original doctor or cop dies, this role will take over that player's abilities of doctor or cop respectively.
-Roleblocker - A mafioso that has the ability to negate a player's abilities each night.
-Godfather - A mafioso that turns up 'town' on cop investigations.
-Survivor - A neutral whose sole goal is to survive to the end of the game. Does not count as town nor mafia.
-Serial Killer - A neutral whose sole goal is to kill everyone else. Does not count as town nor mafia.
Sup dawgs. Statistically speaking, some of the more experienced players must be scum, so we should lynch all the experienced players and then let the noob scum bumble and out themselves.
And one thing, b/c I'm a noob, the first time you say some acronym, just plz say in parentheses what it means. I've tried to pick up as much as possible but I mean come on, this is Noobia, gimme and any other noobs a break.
hmmm, I don't know about random voting, but my current thinking is thus. Why are you trying to pick off the experienced players so soon jodoyodo, as noobs it may be smart to keep them around. Also, the mafia will most likely target them first anyway, so if their not dying than we know they're probaly mafia. FOS: Jodoyodo
(FOS is finger of suspicion btw Some One).

Boo... you stole my idea. I'll do it anyway because I feel like it:
Vote: Alx2 because if he's scum, he'll mop the floor with us. Seriously. But then again, if he's town he'll mop the floor with the scum. Aaaarrrgggghhhh the indecisiveness!
so in a game this size how many mafia, townies, neutrals can we expect?
Vote ALx2 to return the favor
Sweet. An OMGUS* on a random vote; that's always a good reason for a first non-random vote, but I like someone else better...
*OMGUS means "Oh My God, You Suck". It is used to point out behavior that is purely retaliatory (i.e., I'm saying you're scummy because you're saying I'm scummy, or I'm voting you because you voted me) rather than being motivated by honest scum hunting.
Now here's an interesting vote. Rather than jump on someone for something silly or obvious, Bil points out something much more subtle. True, there's nothing that says anyone has to make a random vote, but why wouldn't you? Could this be an indicator of reluctance to commit in JY's mindset?
Anyways, isn't a FOS (finger of suspicion) almost like a vote? Some of the nooby manuals have told me people consider it worse...
Worse in the sense that using it too much or instead of a vote is scummy, sure, but otherwise no. Some people use FoS as "I would vote you for this but I'm not for whatever reason". Other people use it as casually as to point out anything they think is suspicious (which is really annoying).
To answer your question, Some One, in a typical 12 person game there will be three mafia. It's fairly common to have one neutral so I would say there's a good chance of that, but there's no guarantee.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
... just because there's a random voting phase doesn't mean I'm obliged to random vote, and I'm also NOT going to start serious voting yet since I haven't seen anything serious.
Well I really don't think anything serious is going to happen in the first day. It's not like someones going to jump out and scream of their mafianess from the mountaintops. It's far more likely someone will start a bandwagon and people will jump on it, like this... vote: Jodoyodo.

Wrong, day 1 behavioural analysis can be an excellent indicator, and bandwagoning a townie for no reason is a prime way to speedlynch someone, which
a) denies us more discussion info, and
b) can easily (and probably) lead to a mislynch
Thank you for the compliment, Kraj, but I think JY has a good point. But, he could be using this "logic" to throw us off his mafioso track. Or maybe I'm just being paranoid. Or maybe I'm not being paranoid enough...
Mod prods are when people don't post in the game often enough, so the mod sends them a pm to remind them to check in. Prodding in general on a forum is just... asking questions to specific people, i.e. 'prodding' them for answers, I guess?
So as Kraj said before, with 12 people, there'd be like 3 mafia, 1 neutral, and 8 town, but what sub-roles probably exist?
3 Mafia - are their sub-roles common, or even exist in noob mafia?
1 neutral - what would be his special ability, just surviving to the end, maybe some type of 1 shot kill type thing?
8 town - prolly 1 cop n 1 doc, right? but what about the other 6, they just vanilla?
hmmm, I don't know about random voting, but my current thinking is thus. Why are you trying to pick off the experienced players so soon jodoyodo, as noobs it may be smart to keep them around. This post, along with the clarification directly below, indicates kpaca is somewhat suspicious of JY for real reasons.

This non-challantly cast vote, doesn't come with any reasoning, nor doesn't it say anything about JY's "explainin"; it's a stark contrast to kpaca's previously-serious suspicion of JY.
So as Kraj said before, with 12 people, there'd be like 3 mafia, 1 neutral, and 8 town, but what sub-roles probably exist?

Town hunt for mafia. Mafia hunts for town power roles. I don't like where this line of questioning is going.
FOS: JodoYodo, for previously stated reasons
@ someone, besides the cop and doc, there might be back-up cops and docs. The fact that you asked these questions proves that you are not a back up. Also, there might be Masons, but I have yet to see one in a MTGS game, and in a game of this size, they aren't going to happen, because they are townies who can talk to each other.
@ ikk- leme put it this way, if I actually knew the answers to the questions I asked, I wouldn't be asking em (this is my first game). I'm all set now, however (I think).
Naw, you weren't being harsh, you were being straight up. I totally understand what you're saying though. I just wasn't questioning anything that seemed to me to be "over the line," but rather the basics the more experienced players would already have knowledge of.
I'm going to FOS: Some One. Why?, you might ask. Well, read his signature.
Quote from Some One"s signature »
Two truths and 2 lies:
I am a townie.
I am the mafia.
I am a neutral.
I am Some One.
So what's the point?, you might ask yourselves. Well, I'll tell you the point.
His signature tells us that he knows more than he is leading us to beleive. Thus, he is feigning n00bishness. Which is clearly scummy. You know what, I'm going to up that to a VOTE SOME ONE.
Well straight up, i'm a noob and if it seems i'm trying to hurry things along, i guess its just because i'm impatient. How long does a day take O_O? But i do see your point, and i guess i was a little too excited for my first game. Unvote
However, i still have a FOS: JodoYodo, that first comment rubbed me the wrong way. I don't think he was sarcasmtastic...
