I voted for sandsoft because I thought that by saying something along the lines of "hey, lets move the game along and catch some scum" was a bit scummy.
He wanted to end the random voting and get the game going. You say this is scummy.
Apologies forgetting R_E to remove my picture. It had links to various things against the site rules in the google searchbar and the firefox links bar.
I'll get the picture back up in a little while. Should be about 6pm GMT.

@WeepingWillow: Good catch, contradictions are a scumtell in my book (sometimes).
I actually have no proper allegations at the moment. I know hshadowa has come under the thumb a tiny bit, but I don't think that there's been anything that notes him terribly as scum/scummy.
I concur.
You agree with Shino that you haven't done anything that can make you noted as scummy. I can live with that, but then you say...
I have gone back over and re-read the entire game so far. I can see how my actions look suspicious. I haven't been really careful with my words, and I jumped the gun a bit to quick. I'd probably vote for myself if I wasn't myself. :\
Emphasis mine.
So...in the same post you say you haven't done anything that can be construed as scummy, you say that you would vote for yourself if you were someone else?
Vote: hshadowa You might as well claim when you try to explain the discrepancies in your posts. I believe you are at -2 right now.
Well I guess we're waiting for hshadowa to come in and defend himself now.
I guess we are. Not too much else to do, as he's at lynch -4 IIRC.
Ok, first things first. FoS hshadowa, which could be upgraded to a vote after the claim.
The reasoning behind this is because I'm a fair bit skeptical of his play. Right after my last post (when he didn't appear awfully scummy in my eyes), he decides to cast an OMGUS vote on Sephiroth Owa, despite it being well past the random voting stage. (Which I know has been stated more than enough times for me to take due scientific process, and claim it as my own make it seem redundantly obvious) As also stated, he's been contradicting himself. I think that this is due to the pressure put on him, his relative newness to the game, and possibly (waiting for the claim/counter-claim first) being mafioso.
The other thing that hasn't been sitting too easy with me is his two word post to my observations. "I concur" doesn't give me any grounds to take his word at face value. With the claim; I want to see a (reasonably detailed) reason as to why hshadowa 'concurs' with me. This would sooth my fears of not voting off a townie, as opposed to me being unable to read people's text well enough. (and by due logic, getting duped by a mafioso.)

Shino probably is lurking, but then again it's shino.
And this means? A little more explanation is somewhat necessary before I'm bundled into the lurker category.
I've just noticed you to post fairly little. My comment actually was not meant to place you in the lurker category, more to say that it's normal of you to not post very often.
A keen and accurate observation. I tend to play this a bit more like someone would play a chess game. I tend to analyse what has happened, and as a result, it impedes on my ability to throw out massive amounts of posts. I prefer the once/twice a day post, but is slightly more detailed than expected in the early game. Good thing is, we're well out of the random voting phase, so now my presence will be a bit more noticed. (Meaning my interests have piqued.) Sorry if I've worded it a bit angrily, I thought it was ad hominem at the time.

Effective immediately Yare replaces Wedges. Though Wedges hasn't been online since my prod, he's been gone a week without any notice and that's unacceptable.
The "Chop Suey Slapped Me and It Kicked Me in the Head. 'It's Called Revenge, Lunch Lady!', Said the Garlic Bread" Vote Count:
Ok, here is what I've got. From what I can tell wedges didn't really do anything of substance, so I don't feel the need to explain anything he did (he only had 4 posts by my count). If you want something substantive explained, I'll be glad to try. If you want an explanation for why the puns had to be used, forget it.
But not all the mafia must be bad apples (Obvious bad pun is obviously bad)
I'd rather townie bananas, are you pushing the tomato agenda?
Hmm... Ace is acting strangely, what with his blatant pushing for pro-tomato ideals as opposed to other fruits and vegies. Ace even attempts to distract us with his pointing and such! (A very serious post, as you can see:rolleyes:)
I believe I posted something along the lines that, in an effort to move the game along, I'd make the first semi-serious vote.
Sand's explanation is believable enough, so I'll Unvote for now.
Seconded. I know what the basic roles are and what the do, but I don't know what the normal distribution of them would be in a normal game, or more importantly, in a newbie game.
This was the post that set off my scumdar, as appears to have been the case with others. The fact that you jumped off so fast suggests you really didn't think about what you were doing. While on the one hand that could indicate that you were just a misguided townie (as you seem to suggest in your post), it also suggests that you might be scum because it doesn't matter who you go after first. Sandsoft was the "best" target as opposed to a "good" target, and therefore you picked him. That's my theory anyway.
I actually have no proper allegations at the moment. I know hshadowa has come under the thumb a tiny bit, but I don't think that there's been anything that notes him terribly as scum/scummy. (It'd have to hit me on the head before I find people scummy at this stahe, and then everyone would know about it already (and would have dealt to it too))...
This "I concur" only serves to point out that another player thought he wasn't scummy. While I understand why any player would want to point out that he has supporters, this post didn't really seem to add anything. Note also that in Shino's original post, he made a mention of how he doesn't really find anybody scummy at all at this point, yet hshadowa cut that out of his quote. Namely, he did this quote:
Quote from Shino Tenchi »

Finally, OMGUS VOTE: Sephiroth Owa
When I saw this, I said aloud "he's scum." This is obviously a vote to try to get something going against the most viable target other than yourself at the time. Had you provided substantive reasoning, I could have understood this. Instead, you tried to pass it off as a joke OMGUS, when in fact the game had definitely moved beyond the random stage at that point.
@ OMGUS: That really doesn't reinstate my confidence of you being town. When being asked to defend/explain yourself, it (as echophagy put it) "rather undermines your position of calm rebuttal."
My vote still stands for you I'm afraid.
Sephiroth Owa points out something to effect of what I say above. I believe he was the first person to point this out, though I could be wrong. In any event, I note it because 1) I don't want it to be thought that I tried to come up with idea that the OMGUS vote was scummy (i.e., that I'm just barning subtly) and 2) it points out that Sephiroth Owa, being a little vulnerable, tried to capitalize on this against the other vulnerable target. Following similar logic to my questioning of hshadowa, pointing to the most vulnerable target is a little scummy. That's not to say Sephiroth Owa is scum; I just want to note that for the moment.
I made some mistakes in my first game, sorry the town will have to pay for them. I'm a pizza, neutral townie. Don't think my claim will help me at this point...
So, that's the claim. I would guess he really means "vanilla townie." This doesn't really help your cause either as it doesn't give us a reason not to vote for you. I have to agree that this just sounds like scum giving up.
That being said, I want to give you a little bit of time to say a little more if you want. Therefore, I am going to FoS hshadowa, and am willing to cast a vote to lynch him if either 1) he doesn't respond in a timely fashion or 2) I am unhappy with subsequent claim posts.
Actually, I don't like his claim on a flavor level (food pun not intended). Methinks it's a delivery pizza which was unfinished and has been sitting at the back of the fridge for who-knows-long (which would make him scum).
So, yeh, hshadowa, a bit of flavor would help with your claim.
I was thinking this too. Pizza is a notorious food for getting nasty in the fridge. But, this might also be a case of trying to game the mod.
Yes, I'm vanilla townie, not neutral. I'm a pepperoni pizza, the flavor is that I don't spoil easily.
That's what I am, though I think it doesn't make a lot of sense as pizza does go bad rather quickly.
You MUST just not really care or you just think that there is no hope for you. Alright, though my presence in this game hasn't been very long, it Really Does seem unlikely that this would be something to regret: vote hshadowa. So Sorry if you're town; I just can't see any other way. I think that's a lynch.
The food shouted back and forth, but it didn't take long to decide who among them must be rotten: hshadowa.
"But I'm pepperoni pizza!" he pleads. "I don't even have any veggies. When's the last time you saw a pizza like that go bad in the fridge?"
"Last night, ya punk!" ced395 shouts as Yare boots hshadowa off the edge of the shelf and down into the crisper. Weeping Willow pushes a box of baking soda into the drawer as well, covering hshadowa. The baking soda will neutralize his odors, but he's also completely inedible now.
Unfortunately, upon closer examination you see that there was not a spot of mold on him and the fridge smells just as bad as ever. hshadowa was Pepperoni Pizza, Vanilla Town.
It is now night 1. Please PM your night actions to me by Sunday the 28th.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
When I said, "Here's hoping we caught mafia on the first day," I meant just that. I was hoping that we were able to get scum and not a misguided townie. I haven't read too many of the newer newb games that have been completed; I read mostly the earlier ones. The trend in the earlier ones seemed to be that a townie got lynched on the first day just as much as, if not a little more often than, scum. *I just assumed that this trend continued to the newer games.) Games that begin in day seem to require a bit of luck to nab scum on the first day, but I wouldn't call it blind luck. Hopefully, the hshadowa wagon will provide some clues.
I would like to see this comment I made that indicates I'm in favor of speed-lynching. I looked over the majority of my posts and haven't been able to find one stating it.
It's scummy because you're going out of your way to make yourself look town with an otherwise meaningless comment. Saying that you meant it doesn't mean you did.
I'd call it counting on blind luck if we lynch the first player to show any hint of suspicion.
I didn't think of it like that. I wanted to post what was on my mind which was really, "I really hope we didn't **** up." I figured people would get upset about it thinking it was too vulgar of phrasing, so I rephrased it.
Basically, what you're saying is that even if you're town, you should stay away from making statements like that, since statements like that are viewed as scummy? I'm not trying any kind of double-speak, I am just honestly curious.
Also, if you really wanted clues from the lynch, you'd have been better off trying to take the wheels of the wagon and trying a few other players first.
Looking back, you are most probably correct on this. I hadn't thought about it like that. I know this for next time now, thank you.
You're saying that you want to lynch him if he doesn't answer to the questions that are being asked of him at the time. Therefore, you'd be happy to lynch him soon.
I just meant that if he didn't fight, that people would lynch him on principle. If you read any game where someone completely gives up like that, whether they're town or scum, they get lynched. It just makes the game less fun when people give up right away without even trying to defend themselves.
Also, I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to post this or not, but Kraj: I disagree with my part in the hshadowa lynch flavor. I certainly did not agree with the lynch at that stage .
Meh, I basically picked a player at random. Apologies if it was misleading.

Almost all of your posts reek of noob scum. Throwing up a "Let's hope we catch scum guys" sounds like a "I'm one of you, you see?"
It could've gone without saying, as we all obviously want to catch scum (if we're town).
Yeah, I understand why saying I hope we caught scum comes across as a scum-like action now. It definitely could have gone without saying.
~shrugs~ I guess I was still a little excited about playing. It was a milestone. First game, first post, first lynch, etc. I was hoping to start off my mafia career with a positive first day, but I guess that wasn't the case.
Gaming the mod = Playing by using flavor as a tool against a person. Here, we thought pizza goes bad very easily (in my opinion, it does), but apparently the Mod doesn't think so, so we gamed the mod and failed.
I probably won't respond to anything else until tomorrow. My Redskins are playing soon and I have to get ready for the game, then there's a party afterwards.
Vote Yare and HoS Kman1474 for quicklynching, and FoS Weeping Willow for the scummy post after the lynch.
Come on guys. That just wasn't a town move. He revised his claim to something that was much more believable, which is what I wanted to see. You could have at least given the rest of the town a chance to respond first.

Sorry about missing the lynch itself, I got distracted >.<
In regards to weeping willow, I think what she said appears noobish, but I am not sure on the scuminess of the content.
I wonder if Shino and Ace could tell us why they both voted after the lynch had been confirmed (by willow's vote count), as these votes were entirely irrelevant.
Isn't it obvious? They want to fit in. Standing out among others in a crowd is never a good thing in mafia, and they want to appear as if they were actually a part of the lynching in the attempt to look townie. However, this is not a strong enough case for even an FoS, because both town and scum would do this.

This. Jumping on a bandwagon isn't really that bad when there is evidence enough to do so. Staying out of the voting is much worse, and either way would inevitably raise flags.
You didn't exactly give anyone else a chance to respond to the claim. Some other people with votes on hshadowa might have wanted to remove them in light of the claim.
Therefore, I think that your (and Yare's) objective at the time was to end the day before the town could respond. I'd call that a very scummy action.
I find Yare more scummy (for not trying to stop the early lynch, instead taking the chance to hammer), which is the only reason I didn't vote for you.
I think that Yare simply came in with a fresh look on the game and jumped right in. I don't really see his actions as particularly scummy, as we had hshadow pegged anyways.

Where is this "revision" and "much more believable" thing? He just restated what he said before, imo. The case was pretty overwhelming; the effort was just not there and his actions were really, really scummy.
This is what I'm interested in. Does anybody have a good reason as to why nobody died last night? If you're the doc, though, and you were just lucky in the block, not saying anything is probably the right call. If it's another reason, though, I think speaking up is proper.
Ace's words could be taken two ways:
1. He's the doc, congratulating the doc, so he doesn't look like the doc...
2. He's noob mafia, wondering what happened, or trying to congratulate the doctor in a sneaky way so he doesn't look like mafia.
Ace's words could be taken two ways:
1. He's the doc, congratulating the doc, so he doesn't look like the doc...
2. He's noob mafia, wondering what happened, or trying to congratulate the doctor in a sneaky way so he doesn't look like mafia.
Or a third: 3. Ace had no idea that nobody could not die, and was surprised after skimming the rules. To be truthful, past IRC games I've played didn't use a Doctor, as far as I can rememeber.
I did like Kraj's:

Notice: My laptop's GPU has failed. Consequently, my motherboard needs to be replaced, which hopefully will only take a few days. Therefore, my participation in the game will unfortunately be more intermittent than I would like for it to be for at least a bit. There isn't anything else I can do. I will post again regarding this game whenever it is possible. Thanks.
Actually, I don't like his claim on a flavor level (food pun not intended). Methinks it's a delivery pizza which was unfinished and has been sitting at the back of the fridge for who-knows-long (which would make him scum).

In post 184, kman says he waited for people to investigate the claim before voting, but 10 minutes does not really cut waiting for other people (especially seeing as 2 voters were in the UK and probably asleep at that time.).
In post 178, you completely disregard the fact that ced has HoS'ed you and instead of defending yourself (because a HoS even if you don't know what it is, it must be bad) you just ask what it is. You could have added a little something else in here.
Ced did not vote for him. You gave NO-ONE who had voted for him a chance to reconsider. You gave him 10 minutes which is completely pointless. It just leaves the space open for 2 things.
1) You are scum and set up a 1-point lynch so that an unsuspecting newbie comes in and pops a town member down.
2) You are innocent, jumping on a bandwagon and giving that last mafia member the chance to pop in and kill off the helpless townie.
it was more than 10 minutes between his first claim and when i posted and im sorry but i didn't think about people in the UK. i wanted to know what exactly a hos was considering i had never heard of it before. as soon as i found out what it meant i defended myself.

Votes hshadowa even though the lynch has been confirmed.
This seems completely pointless and raises suspicions as to why he might feel the need to appear super-conforming to town behaviours.
Not super-conforming, but honestly thinking that all town needed to vote before a lynch was made. I realise that I put much emphasis on my newbishness to forum mafia, but this instance my stupidity prevailed.
Sandsoft mentions that they are trying to fit into the crowd, and Ace explains that jumping on a bandwagon is not a bad thing, however, in post 115 he tries to imply jumping on bandwagons is a bad idea (possibly even scummy).
Actually, what i was pointing out when I suggested yourself as scum, was that bandwagoning followed by quickly withdrawing support for said bandwagon once it became popular, was scummy.
He is then challenged on it a little in following posts, and soon retracts the allegations announcing 'no hard feelings'.
Explained, yet again. I was pointing out someone who had been directing conversation, yet had not been accused. I was throwing the argument out there, stating how I felt about it. There was no response, apart from a reprimand from yourself stating that obviously you were not scum, and I dropped in realisation that my claims were based upon a feeling, rather than fact.
This is what I'm interested in. Does anybody have a good reason as to why nobody died last night? If you're the doc, though, and you were just lucky in the block, not saying anything is probably the right call. If it's another reason, though, I think speaking up is proper.
From my knowledge, the lack of NK can be explained in a number of ways:
1) Doc got lucky in protection.
2) a Townie RoleBlocker got lucky (sometimes, they can block kills if they target the killer, I believe)
3)a Devious Mafia Plot, designed to induce confusion
4) Mafia incompetance (failing the deadline etc etc)
Therefore, surely the only people who know why there was no NK are either a)Power town roles, and Should thereofre NOT come forward or b) scum (who obviously should come forward >.>)
therefore, is Yare's attempt to lure out a power role evidence of scum? I think so, unless Yare can think of another reason for lack of NK that he was alluding to.

I was thinking this too. Pizza is a notorious food for getting nasty in the fridge. But, this might also be a case of trying to game the mod.

Here's hoping we caught mafia on the first day.:glee:
I believe this is the fastest lynch i've ever seen in a game so far.

Sephiroth Owa - 1 (hshadowa)

I would like to see this comment I made that indicates I'm in favor of speed-lynching. I looked over the majority of my posts and haven't been able to find one stating it.
Looking back, you are most probably correct on this. I hadn't thought about it like that. I know this for next time now, thank you.
I just meant that if he didn't fight, that people would lynch him on principle. If you read any game where someone completely gives up like that, whether they're town or scum, they get lynched. It just makes the game less fun when people give up right away without even trying to defend themselves.
I wasn't attempting to justify the lynch at all when I said that. I was simply trying to get you to understand why I said that I hoped we caught scum.
Meh, I basically picked a player at random. Apologies if it was misleading.

Don't game the mod.
Alright, FoS Weeping Willow.
Almost all of your posts reek of noob scum. Throwing up a "Let's hope we catch scum guys" sounds like a "I'm one of you, you see?"
It could've gone without saying, as we all obviously want to catch scum (if we're town).
and look around every once and a while you could miss it. - ferris bueller
What do you mean by gaming the mod?
I probably won't respond to anything else until tomorrow. My Redskins are playing soon and I have to get ready for the game, then there's a party afterwards.
quicklynching? i waitied for him to claim before i voted. i don't think what willow said was scummy i think you are just trying to hard.
and look around every once and a while you could miss it. - ferris bueller
In regards to weeping willow, I think what she said appears noobish, but I am not sure on the scuminess of the content.
I wonder if Shino and Ace could tell us why they both voted after the lynch had been confirmed (by willow's vote count), as these votes were entirely irrelevant.
This. Jumping on a bandwagon isn't really that bad when there is evidence enough to do so. Staying out of the voting is much worse, and either way would inevitably raise flags.
I think that Yare simply came in with a fresh look on the game and jumped right in. I don't really see his actions as particularly scummy, as we had hshadow pegged anyways.
So nobody died last night?
Where is this "revision" and "much more believable" thing? He just restated what he said before, imo. The case was pretty overwhelming; the effort was just not there and his actions were really, really scummy.
This is what I'm interested in. Does anybody have a good reason as to why nobody died last night? If you're the doc, though, and you were just lucky in the block, not saying anything is probably the right call. If it's another reason, though, I think speaking up is proper.

Tee-hee.
my fault the day was so short? didn't you vote for him to? that leaves you to blame as much as it does me. i voted for him because i didn't believe his claim just like everyone else didn't believe his claim, my vote wasn't even the vote that lynched him, atleast i don't think it was.

im number 2 but i doubt you will believe that.

Not super-conforming, but honestly thinking that all town needed to vote before a lynch was made. I realise that I put much emphasis on my newbishness to forum mafia, but this instance my stupidity prevailed.
Actually, what i was pointing out when I suggested yourself as scum, was that bandwagoning followed by quickly withdrawing support for said bandwagon once it became popular, was scummy.
I think so, unless Yare can think of another reason for lack of NK that he was alluding to.
coupled with his desire to hammer hshadowa rather quickly FoS Yare
