When I put decks together I usually decide whether it'll be for multiplayer or for duels. Dueling decks are more streamlined and have less random fun cards, but multiplayer means a.) you usually have more time to set up, and b.) you should play some defensive cards such as early blockers, or life gain.
Deciding what you'll use the deck for should help you narrow down card selection. Good luck!
EDIT: figured I'd throw in my old Doubling Season multiplayer deck. It's evolved a bit over the years but the core remains.
The reason for what looks like some main cards being 3-ofs is I had a lot of cards clogged at 5 mana. The core defense and synergies of the deck are strong and tested enough that I can afford to just throw in random one-ofs for fun and not compromise the strength. This deck has some fun plays such as: Fecundity in play, make 7 0/0 tokens with Saproling Burst to draw 7 cards for 5 mana, and with Doubling Season, Saproling Burst comes into play with 14 counters, of which i can remove 13 to make 26 tokens to sac to Goblin Bombardment, or to draw the rest of my deck with Fecundity. Also, Doubling Season in play, I can remove one counter from Spike Weaver to add two.
I recently added three Serrated Arrows, since I think it'll work well with Doubling Season and Seedborn Muse. Comes into play with six counters, tap to give something 2 -1/-1 counters, etc.
Why not base an infinite loop off of Saprolings like Intruder Alarm + Sprout Swarm, make it around 3-4 colors using the Alara lands, playset of Birds of Paradise, something like that.
That's what I did and I still need more Enchantment tutors for my variation to pull my combo out faster via Idyllic Tutor, Zur the Enchanter, something along the works.
