If I were to build a deck around cauldron of souls, i would have to base it on march of the machines, and magus of the disk. Don't know if it would work, but it sounds interesting.
Hey guys, great show as always. I'm really disappointed that they didn't ban elves in time for worlds, but at least it'll give me a chance to play goblins again. As for the Cauldron of Souls deck, I decided to create a deck that manipulates -1/-1 counters in general. The Cauldron, Blowfly Infestation, Flourishing Defenses, Heartmender, and Kulrath Knight take advantage of -1/-1 counters on your and your opponents side of the board. Heartmender plus Puppeteer Clique means that every time your opponent destroys your clique, you get a creature. Cauldron plus Grim Poppet plus Blowfly Infestation equals a whole lot of death, or substitute the Infestation for Flourishing Defenses for a whole lot of life. This deck will frustrate your opponent by making your creatures practically indestructible while killing their creatures and benefiting.
I felt like you should have been playing the Rocky theme music in the background when you were talking about the magic "training regiment". Great show as always.
Another great show, as always. One thing that I wanted to set straight is your discussion of the card uktabi kong. This has always been one of my favorite unhinged cards because it references two of the coolest apes in Magic. As Tom pointed out, the art, name and second two abilities come from uktabi orangutan with his promiscuous buddies in the background. However, what Tom failed to mention was the other half of the card comes from the card gorilla titan. This card provides the Kong’s power, toughness, trample and flavor text (quick note about the flavor text, the reason the word “substantial” was not in italics was to put emphasis on it like they did with the word "this" in gorilla titan's flavor text). Uktabi Kong’s mana cost comes from the combination of the mana costs of these two cards. I hope this clears things up for everybody.
The idea is to kill them the turn WAT comes into play by cheating the loop with Salvage Titan. Get enough artifacts in play (12, if you haven't dealt any damage to them), then play WAT, sacrifice 3 arts to play Salvage Titan, remove those to return it, wash, rinse repeat. Cauldron reduces the amount of creatures you need (for example if you have a couple Ornithopters and a Juggernaut in play, give them persist for an extra use; especially nice when chaining Titans because it still triggers WAT when it comes back into play with a -1/-1 counter on it). Glaze Fiend was put after seeing how many artifacts can come into play in a turn, it can get QUITE large; plus it attacks for 2+ in the early turns.
Could use some tweaking, and maybe removing Green making Savage lands into non-citp tapped for consistently curving out. Take out Firespout and replace with 4x Pyroclasm. I liked the Executioner's Capsule because it gave a way to deal with an early Rhox War Monk.

I would like to hear Gavin sing, in the style of an AC/DC tribute band:
'Cos it's M T G
It's Monday Night
M T G
We'll Unmake your Hellkite
etcetera, etcetera.
As for a Cauldron of Souls deck, I've just figured out an overly complicated combo: Cauldron of Souls, Goblin Bombardment, Oona's Blackguard and a Pestermite! Give the pestermite persist with the cauldron, sac it to the bombardment, it will persist back and get a +1/+1 counter from the blackguard leaving it in minty fresh condition ready for another sacrifice. Unless of course I don't understand the rules correctly and it'll die before it gets the +1/+1 counter? Who cares about the rules when you have a 4 card combo in 3 colours!
Bonus: Carnival of Souls combo, because everyone loves those! carnival and Deathgreeter in play, along with 2 Nether Traitors and a sac outlet, we'll use Nantuko Husk this time. sac one traitor to the husk, gain a life. sac the other traitor and pay a black to get the first traitor back, which costs you a life and gives you another black mana. repeat ad infinitum and swing with a supermassive nantuko husk!
No mention of my email? My heart is broken D: Please get back to me guys!

That's definitely an idea. I don't now how many people listen to other podcasts that have done this, but I always enjoy that little touch. For example, in the shortlived MTGPoker podcast, they had the star wars theme play lightly in the background while they were interviewing Chris McDaniel, the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids theme play while Mikey P's interview, etc. I don't know how hard it is to do, and we don't need to take it to that extreme, but adding little things like the highly appropriate Rocky theme song there would be pretty neat.

Nice deck.
Chromatic Star is in tenth - maybe +4 Chromatic Star -4 Springleaf Drum as there aren't many creatures to make the drum that useful.
I've got the perfect sound file i snagged from a great band known as Rhapsody of Fire, it's a pretty *****in into to thier song "Steelgods of the Last Apocalypse" If i can find it on my other system i'll upload it. It's pretty cool. however the full intro is like a minute and 10 Seconds. it's up to you lemme know? I could also Add the Hello and Welcome to Monday Night Magic with a cutting tool i could Cut the sentance directly out of your show.

The Merciless Lord of Torture, Permanently Bound To: ">[THE PACK] 11/5/63 - 11/25/09 Goodbye mom, i'll always love you...
I don't believe I thought this through entirely before I posted... so here we go.
First, you do need two Salvage Titans in your hand, and a Where Ancients Tread. So let's assume you play the Where Ancients Tread this turn, then you sacrifice 3 artifacts to put ST1 into play, 5 to their dome. Sacrifice 2 artifacts and ST1 to play ST2, 5 to their dome. Remove three artifacts from the grave to return ST1. Sacrifice 2 artifacts and ST2 to play ST1, 5 to their dome. Remove 3 artifacts to return ST2 to your hand. Sacrifice 2 artifacts and ST1 to play ST2, 5 to their dome, for a total of 20 and sacrificing (counting...) 9 artifacts... pretty cool. I really wish I could work more draw into the deck. Elsewhere Flask seemed so good in theory (cycling that could be sacrificed to bring Titan into play), but it's tough to fit in.
@djehrame
The Springleaf Drum is in there for mana acceleration because the deck only runs 20 lands, 4 Mindstone, and 4 Drums. The Star is nice, but I think I'd run Elsewhere Flask over that because mana shoudn't be a problem in a heavy artifact deck and it allows me to draw a card AND sacrifice it to Titan. I don't think Chromatic Star has a place in this deck.
I don't now how many people listen to other podcasts that have done this, but I always enjoy that little touch. For example, in the shortlived MTGPoker podcast, they had the star wars theme play lightly in the background while they were interviewing Chris McDaniel
It's not hard to do, just a little time consuming for editing after the fact. Unless your like Cagle, and you have all of those preloaded as AU drops into Audacity and can do it on the fly... He's mastered the art of doing it.
Nice pod cast again. This is my deck. Turn stuff into creatures and then use the mass targetting to trigger Horobi and kill all their lands and creatures.

PLAGUEZOMBIE, I say your song should go into at least one of the shows.
I for one am down big time for some Zombie Chaos Magic (not chaos as in the Chaos magic version that was mentioned in the cast, which I too have played a few times and even won a local tournament once) and I have a particular interest that is classified info. as of now.
What are all the rules that have been established?
Being a vintage player (plus much more), I say Yay to the Japanese cards. Anything that's a staple or has a good niche and can be found in Japanese foil is a big bonus. I think one of the reasons is for us in the States these cards are more rare than the English rares and I agree with there is grace of the look that gives the cards a big appeal. The flip side is (and maybe its differant with cards) i have know of a lot of English items that are sought after by the Japanese in the same fashion.
Oow..Nice @%$!'n Chrome mox! Its so.. shiny!
I would think the baned and restricted list is a good stratigic move by WotC for a number of reasons, one being if they are trying to have a mass appeal for Magic. If some elf deck does someting cool and wins a worlds than the mass might have a better acceptance/understanding of what Magic is about. Its like telling someone what Magic is. Using a word like Elfs is more accepted than something like Demons, ex.. Who are the Elfs most likely to face, good chance it's Faeries? Which is another word that fits the bill.
On that note I always compare Magic and Chess in there stratigic essence, and I like the saying "though with thousands of pieces to choose from."
basically this deck runs off of the oona's blackguard, pestermite, cauldron of souls engine. with a sacrifice outlet you go infinite. with goblin bombardment in play it's infinite damage, with the altar it's mill(er) time. with nantuko or carrion feeder you can make some really big guys, and you can ransack/witsniper their deck.
