by mtgcast #138, Thanks guys!
I have actually run this deck with my friends in our Chaos Multiplayer games. Doesn't really win lol, but when it does it is really fun. You can do some pretty cool stuff.
Conflux looks great so far. Maybe not the most killer tourney set but I think some of the things we are gonna see is gonna be off the wall. I can't wait for Nicol Bolas, I will be going to the Pre-Release for the sole purpose of getting a Nicol Bolas. What I am thinking is that Nicol Bolas may be the Pre-Release card. It has been spoiled for so long and I am sure that Magic has known about it, with all the hype going around about Nicol Bolas I wouldn't be surprised to seem them do that just to up the amount of attendance at the PR. More Plansewalkers equals More Good. I am a huge fan of Planeswalkers, I mean HUGE. Why do you think the title of this post is "Must Win non card Magic Memoribilla :)" I collect non card Magic stuff and love Plansewalkers so of course I had to dust off the keyboard and at least try to win this one.
Most people have had thier deck for this standard season and uses one or two the entire time, just tweaking it over time. Mine has been the Plansewalker deck. Tweaking it, Tuning it, and Adjusting it to the max. It has become to the bane of the table so I don't get to play it much but it is so much fun.
On the note of Kamigawa they actually passed out tons of Saviors as door prizes for our States in Nov. lol.
Have you guys seen the "BETA" Draft they will be having at PT Kyoto? You will have 8 chances to get in through qualifiers at the PT. If you win one then you get to participate in the BETA draft. In the BETA draft you get 1 pack of BETA 1 pack of Itialian Reinasance (i think) and 2 packs of Portal 3 Kingdoms to draft with, each player gets to keep 1 card from a pack they opened and the winner gets the rest. Here is the link to the events for PT Kyoto and the BETA draft is near the bottom.
You should definatly send the cards to the military, that is freaking awesome. This could be the "1st Military Magic Drive" It could be done again, or you could even do something else each time.
Numlock is AutoRun on WoW. Oh and I don't play either just know a lot of people who do, gotta get that clear.
I wanted to let you guys know that I love the cast, gratz to Jack for getting on the cast after all your hard "work".

good show as always... i honestly think it would be funny if they ran a draft like was mentioned on the show, but always made sure to put atleast 1 good common from a non-craptastic set. but maybe it is me that i would think that was funny.
Edit i forgot to mention i have a friend who accually quite playing because he spent like 18 months in Iraq with the minnesota national guard... i just wanted to mention that
I don't listen to this often. The show was ok. The new guy keeps doing this whisper voice which I find grating. Stop whispering please. It kinda reminds me of the Family Guy southern accent stubble beard guy. That may be what he was going for. It's not working.
I don't want to come across as mean here but...Jack you are to over the top for me. You drowned Tom out every time you talked...and each time you "whispered" or used any of your "excited voices" I had to talk myself into continuing to listen. I found it rather difficult to listen to the entire episode...and I look forward to the episode each week. You seem like a really good guy from what I see on the forums...and you are obviously passionate about the game which is cool but...maybe next time turn your mic down and tone down the over the top co-hosting.
Again I don't want to come across as flaming but...this is the place for comments on the show.
I think that Red has been given its own form of "Card Draw" in Shards and now Conflux. While unearth technically isn't card draw...its card advantage that can cover the same ground.
In response to the email about whats your favorite casual deck...My favorite casual deck is GrizzlyBear.dec. Care to guess why?
@Tom,
I have always wondered why everyone always bashes Kamigawa. Kamigawa is my favorite set. It isn't the strongest set obviously...but it was a lot of fun to play with. I really wish that WOTC would go back to Kamigawa. I know that I am in the minority here though.
Edit: It seems that I am not the only one annoyed.
The deck wants to use the synergy with Giant Fan and That which was Taken so you can make That Which was Taken indestructible as well as save things at instant speed. The deck has some token generators so there are tokens to move and can finish with infinite turns.
actually, the criticism is much appreciated. I'll try and hold myself back for the next show, or at least cut back on the caffiene next time. sorry everyone

Thanks for the feedback and I think Jack did a great job on the 'cast and I had a blast recording. So, constructive feedback is appreciated, and keyword is "constructive".
It is a tough thing to record a podcast and can be a bit anxiety-provoking to know that 20,000+ people are listening to every word you are saying. I thought it was pretty harsh to call it an "epic fail" and made me it a bit mad. I better cut myself off since I have whipped myself into a bit of a tizzy.
I do tend to find the whisper a bit annoying. But Jack, I think you have a differing style to Tom (him being the more proper and serious one), so it's a good contrast.
Also, could you guys break the podcast up into parts, so that when my fat fingers hit the "back" button on my shuffle I don't have to fast forward the show?
Tom, I just started listening recently (like this month), I wonder how "bad" you could have been when you first start (and got ridiculed by that comic)
R
ps. I was probably not paying attention, but what happened to Gavin?
Jacks whispering and voice inflections were a chore to deal with, it seamed as though he was voice casting for an eclectic poppet show. It's a shame because he had some decent card knowledge and Magic understanding (not a Gavin, but more spikier than Tom). Even though his personality is over the top at least he has one, and thereby a potential future in podcasting, his own show.
Great show as always guys. You make my work day go so much faster.
I think it's interesting that there will be 2 other PWs, but I'm not of the mind set that it's a bad thing for MTG. Having more PWs will only increase the different decks we seem coming into development. It should just encourage the creativity of deck builders and how crazy their lists can get. I'm excited to see these new options that Conflux will release for all different types of archetypes.

Amazing Avy & Sig by mchief111 @ Rising Studios [4/22/11]
Hey guys, here's a mana ramp deck which uses That Which Was Taken, Myojin of Life's Web, and Weird Harvest to play a huge amount of awesome creatures. TWWT can also be used to make all your powerful creatures indestructible, too. Hope you like it.
The land base is pretty expensive, so substitute in whatever lands you deem necessary if you don't have the coinage.
I enjoyed this weeks podcast. I think Jack did a good job, especially for a relatively inexperienced podcaster. I hope Gavin gets better, and I hope Jack can come back sometime.
Really enjoyed the show guys. I have been a listener for about 3 months and always look forward to the next cast. I appreciate the time you guys put into the show. I tried to send in my first deck last week but your email was down, heh. Anyway, being from NC like Jack sometimes i feel like im stereotyped as a simple minded hillbilly just because i have country grammer and thought, maybe Jack was tring to hide some slang without realizing it until it was to late. Either way i listened intently, had a few laughs and as always was annoyed when the end of the show came.
as I stated earlier, all comments are appreciated. if nothing else, being a part of the show motivated me to become a better podcaster. every critique has pointed out something I am going to try my hardest to improve upon.
But I will say this:
I don't want people to stop listening because I'm a goof. Tom and Gav both put a lot of work into a show, with their only reward being the joy they get from it and being recognized in the community. in return, we get MTG news of some of the best quality, exclusively spoiled cards, and interviews with folks we'd otherwise not. I don't want to take that away from them, or the community.
so, next time, I'm going to cut the caffiene, and try to bring the same professional qaulity they bring.
@Gorum: thank you, and I whole heartedly aggree. I'm almost afraid to go out and open my mouth when I'm in public simply because I've had folks come up and ask me to speak, while giggling all the while. just because we're from the south doesn't mean we're ignorant or sub-human, though I certainly get the impression folks think as much sometimes.

Jack, I understand what it's like. Coming from a fellow North Carolinian and occasional podcaster, I understand what it's like to stumble through your words and hit every single 'um' that you never knew existed. You just have to fix it next episode and all of these "Jack needs to stop whispering" will turn into "Jack needs to be on the podcast more."
Sorry guys, I'm 14 minutes through and I'm not going to continue because the whispering is creepy and grating. You sound like a smart guy Jack and the things you say are fine, but the way you say them is really off-putting! Hope to hear you again, without the whispering
Rather than do the deck challenge this week, I'd like to relate a story from a casual 3 player game I played with my friends last night. One friend was playing his Kelpie control deck, and the other was playing his Magus of the Vineyard-Feral Hydra-Wurmcalling deck. He played out 2 Magi on turns 1 and 2, which I was quite pleased about as it meant I could play Wild Pair on my turn 3
The next turn I played Minion Reflector and turn 5 I started going off. I had an essence warden in play and a couple of mana elves, and I played another warden, fetching a 3rd with Wild Pair, and copied both of them with Minion Reflector. I then played 2 Elvish Visionarys from my hand, fetched up 2 Deranged Hermits and copied both the hermits for a total of 22 new creatures with FIVEEssence Wardens in play!! Both my opponents promptly scooped as neither of them had any board sweepers and I had just gained over 100 life, and a friend at the next table on hearing the story commented "i wasn't even in that game and i scooped." Good times

I imagine Maro has a huge ancient book in his office titled "Tempo Defined" and inside it is hollowed out and there is a bottle of whiskey
Tom has asked that we criticize in a constructive manner. For those of us who have been and are dedicated to the MNM show, I must say that Jack's articulation was a bit on the grating side. This is mainly a result of how comfortable we have gotten with Tom and Gavin's way of articulating their words. I'm sure that if anyone had just tuned to the show for the first time, they would have been more comfy with this show while under the allusion that this was the norm of this show. For those of us that care, perhaps a bit of CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. It seems that those of us who found Jack's style a bit of a turnoff were able to sacrifice content for style of delivery. You could have given us an enhanced version of this show with a visual spoiler of Nicol Bolas - Planewalker placed randomly in the timeline, and those of us that didn't want to sit through Jack's speaking would have sacrificed the pleasure of seeing such a card just to end the incessant whispering.
Now the actual suggesion: Place the names of this week's hosts in the title scroll of the podcast. That way, those of us who are willing to skip that week's show can simply get the material from the site rather than tolerate Jack's whispering.
Thanks, Tom for reminding us that although we're not speaking with each other face to face, manners are important.
And Dalpers now wins biggest @$$hole of the comments board. Yay. Yes a must on Tom's large list of things to do. Change the title scroll so people can skip listening because they believe a person will not attempt to get better. I mean heck why not require all first time magic players to where a cone shaped hat that says "NOOB" so those of us who are just to good to waste our times with the likes of the little nooblets can just skip them by rather than beat them a few games and try to help them understand why they lost.
*breathes in.....breathes out.....*
Ok so maybe now I win biggest @$$hole of the comments but ya know you get an itch about some things and ya just run with it.
So here is a solemn promise from me that I will listen next week or whenever the next time Jack in on the cast to see the improvements he has made and congratulate him on those improvements or let him know that even though he tried he might want to try again which ever happens, I will be listening.

@ dalpers - I think they were holding you as accountable for your post as you were for Jack's goofing around during the podcast.
But just as Jack should not be judged on one podcast, you shouldn't be judged on one post.
Then, you had a second, sarcastic one to reinforce your first ... great going.
@ Jack - Yes, the whispering went overboard, but you know that already. It's like I tell my son, It was funny the first time, not the 10th. I just chalked it up to nerves.
I think you did a pretty good job as a guest host. Sure, you weren't Gavin, but Gavin wasn't Gavin when he started podcasting either. (For that matter, neither was Tom or Dom [BTW, he needs to check in every once in a while]. Of course, I have only gotten worse in my few shows [Tapped Out! vol. 2 episode 3 is recorded FINALLY!, should be out this week.], but that is another matter.)
Now, I have to go listen to this week's episode.
