I have a bunch of stuff going on right now which is eating up all my time. Are people waiting for me to claim? Is that the consensus at this point? I still do not see what benefit it brings right now, but I'm going to bow to the will of the town if that's what's wanted.
The way lrd is posting is seriously making me think:
(1) he's actually the last mafia, and figures he needs ced alive to have a chance
(2) he's scum with TB and has decided on a hard bussing strategy as his best chance
(3) he's just really naive and clueless?
@ced: are you about to elaborate on your claim now? Do you suddenly "win" if there are no more Mafia, even with Town left? Do we all get to win together, town and SK, in happy funtime land? Please, I'm dying to hear this.

Seriously, why is Ced still alive? He claimed SK, we can't afford to have him killing townies.
For anyone that thinks that keeping the SK around is EVER a good idea, please see my SK performance in camp Tactonic(or w/e) mafia. It will only ever bite the town in the ass.

all riiiiight. Way to go guys MVP to Axelrod, easily.
WoD, what was with all the protective roles? Were we not supposed to be able to kill?
I hate investigation roles, I think they're overpowered, and cause really bad habits.
Therefore, the Town's power was mostly centered around protection for this game. I'm not currently at the right PC to post the roles, but I will do so when I'm at the right PC.
And just FYI - Tilde's kill was only able to be used on the player who had the fewest posts. That was the biggest WTF moment for me.
That mafia had two kills instead of one. This probably would have happened if we had kept Ced alive anyways as he could just as easily have killed a townie so we still would have lost.
Quote from lrd »
Well played mafia - did you know there was no investigative role, or was it just a ballsy claim?
Combination of Toastboys ballsy cop claim (and clearing of Axel) and the town turning off behavioural analysis and relying on claims (that last one is depressing... No-one called Axel on pushing my lynch for no reason whatsoever, although Cyan kept giving me false hope that he would shoot Axel in the face, he clearly knew something was off but wouldn't go with it, and noone else was even close. Would that I woke up earlier. My analysis spot startled the entire mafia into overstretching to get me for some reason)
Our mod can verify that after my lynch I guessed all the remaining scum were out of mmq, axel, Eco and Toastboy :/ BEHAVIOUR!
No it wouldn't as then it would have been 2 town - 1 SK - 1 mafia at the end of the night, meaning we're in lylo.
No, you would have won because the only possible way to proceed henceforth is for the mafia and the SK to kill each other. If the mafia kills the townie, he runs the risk of the SK killing him leaving only a single townie and the SK alive, meaning the SK will win. Vice-versa applies. This means the mafia and the SK have no choice but to kill each other, leaving the victory to the town. That's the theory anyway.
On another note, I have a fantastic scumdar. I offered my shield to the mafia, SK, mafia respectively before dying myself. And even my death was forced due to unforeseen circumstances. T_T
Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
Pale Mage's role (WoD messed up my kill during N1, and accidently told me that my kill would have failed had I targeted PM)
IIRC, PM was immune to kills by invasion, but not kills by gunfire. At N1, all three mafia (invasion), SK (invasion) and town vig (gunfire) aimed at PM. Only the vig succeeded. Go figures.
On that note, had I not been roleblocked during N2, I might have won. I would have picked up jerub's doc tech, told Dagger to try me again N3, traded doc tech for NK-immune tech (I think?), then claimed doc while actually being NK-immune.
Said Tech only protects against Gunfire, not Invasion. And I'm not sure you can take the Tech with you when you invade another Ship.
This game seemed like a comedy of errors for the Mafia for the longest time.
N0: I tried to scan Raf. for usable Tech (FAIL)
N1: we tried to kill Pale Mage (FAIL)
DV tried to kill someone with his extra kill, maybe it was Cyan (FAIL)
I tried to scan someone else for stealable Tech, don't remember who (FAIL)
Then DV gets lynched and his extra kill goes away with him.
N2: we tried to kill Ced. (FAIL) Instead Zindabad shows up dead and Zebi is fingered as the killer. Still don't know what happened there.
I tried to scan someone else for usable Tech, maybe DYH. (FAIL)
N3: We wanted to kill Cyan. I was going to scan Yodavader. Then I changed my mind and decided to scan MMoD. I SCREWED UP and sent the PM switching my target to Dagger instead of WoD. Don't ask me how I did that, I don't know. Ultimately we decided, rather than make WoD find a replacement for Dagger we'd switch our NK to him.
This, of course, turns out to be a blessing in disguise, as jerubbal is protecting Cyan, and it would have been another FAIL.
My switched scan to MMoD still FAILS, of course (role-blocked by soldiers, as I said. apparently this was MMoD's own ability kicking in here.)
N4: I don't remember who we tried to kill. (FAIL)
I scanned someone else for Tech (Biohazzard, I think) (FAIL)
N5: We actually manage to kill someone successfully - Jerubbal.
I actually manage to put my hooks in Yodavader's ship successfully. Yay! (My ability required me to target the player one Night to get my hooks in. Then I could steal the following Night. Then I could actually use it the Night after that.
N6: We tried to kill Cyan. WoD made a mistake here - he thought we wanted to kill Ced, and it became another FAIL.
This too becomes another blessing in disguse, as Cyan has targeted Ced, and announces his failed kill first thing in the morning. Ced is uncovered as the SK, and this is the only reason TB isn't lynched dead.
So then, on N7, we get our "triple-kill" and actually manage to win.
Whew.

I thought that this game was favery well designed.
The only thing I disagree with is the lack of a decent investigative role for the town. While I understand a mod's reluctance at including a cop, whenever they don't, it only ends up in disaster for the town. You always end up with some scum that figures they're going down and claims Cop, and then when there is no counterclaim, they just skate through the rest of the game. The town shouldn't be put into a situation where it HAS to game the Mod to figure out whether or not a Cop claim is valid. If a Cop is not included for the town, there should be a way for the town to logically figure this out.
It's particularly ironic that, even after he had claimed cop, TB managed to blow it, and got lucky in that the town was effectively forced to lynch Ced, and the scum happened to be able to kill three people at once.
That is just a minor gripe though. All in all, I thought that this was one of the better designed games that I've seen in quite awhile. Nicely done, WOD.
On a side note, this game had one replacement (right at the start), and no modkills. Has there been a better game for that?
bataleur's games (god, they were so long ago - I'm getting old) both had 0 replacements / modkills. Hats and Court mafia (I think - I think I'm starting to lose my memory in my old age).
You're a Cylon. Syrenz could resurrect both KoD and you, at which point you would be town and lose your SK status.
I had originally thought I would be able to ressurect Biohazard also but then he said he wasn't a cylon. Wasn't sure about Ced because he was "Rogue" cylon. Pity Ced, you should have gotten killed earlier lol. Although it wouldn't have worked this night anyways because I was getting killed.
Well played - thought this was an obvious town win after survivor/scum/scum lynches.
It's easy to sit here from the sidelines and say "oh he was clearly scum" but this is another game where people have failed to fully analyze a claim that has plain and obvious holes (if you care to look) and instead preferred to trust blindly. kpaca and Zionite skated by in Cubus's Normal with two claims that simply could not be true and here again Toastboy was plainly lying. That said, "you have to be in it to win it" and it was a gutsy and well-carried out claim even if patently false.
I was a bodyguard who broadcasted my killers' identity when I died. I protected Axelrod (scum!) and ced (SK!), but since my ability did lead to a scum getting caught, I wasn't too displeased.
Incidentally, next time I think someone is scum, I am never, ever giving up on it. You got me once, Axel. Good luck next time.
Heh.
You know, you don't exactly have a reputation for "giving up" on someone once you think they're scum. I think you end up being right more often than wrong, but you're certainly not always right. I'm not sure becomming even more inflexible, is the correct way to go here.
I got the sense you were wary of me the whole game, but never certain. I don't suppose you can say what it was I did that made you feel that way?
I'll second (or third or whatever) the "well done" to Ced. I thought you were nothing but town for most of the game. Of course, I had the advantage of knowing you weren't Mafia, but you being SK never even entered my mind until after Yodavader showed up deceased in Starbug. Then I finally clued in to the "ship-stealer" thing, but still wasn't certain it was you.

I enjoyed this game simply because of the flavor. I played rather poorly this game though.
@WoD you have watched very good Sci Fi TV shows. But just a small complaint about flavor for the Replicators... They stole tech yes... But the normally just infected a ship took it down and Replicated, I know this would be to overpowered but seeing something along this lines would have made me much more happier. But other than that the flavor on this game was great and I enjoyed watching this game.
@ Everyone Ha I was right about their being an SK from BSG. Flavor wise it made so much sense.

May I just say what an annoying ability that was. Sheesh, to not only NOT have the person you were expecting to be dead be dead, but to have your teammate exposed in front of the whole town at the same time - that was a kick in the ****, let me tell you.

I've tried to become more flexible, because I just keep taking flack about it.
If I'd stuck with my initial impression, I would have shot you, and the town would have handily won this game. Blah.
I can't say what it was in your behavior that bothered me. Part of it was definitely the way you acted towards RafK. But also, you never really seemed to try to push any real agenda, at all. You just active-lurked. That is definitely not typical behavior for you. But when push came to shove, you had the right attitude to give me a moment's pause, which was all that you needed. Well done.
Yeah, my death message had everybody under the sun trying to kill me, including you.
Fun game. Ced and Axel were awesome. I was pulling for Ced if the town didn't win...so I've lost twice, I guess.
Why was I vigged, exactly?
tbh I was kind of relieved that you were killed that night lol. You kept asking hard to answer questions and I figured you were eventually going to get me lynched for my stupidity.
I was a bodyguard who broadcasted my killers' identity when I died. I protected Axelrod (scum!) and ced (SK!), but since my ability did lead to a scum getting caught, I wasn't too displeased.
Also, my role in a nutshell:
If you would perform the Mafia Nightkill, the target is also role blocked for the Night, while they fight off the swarms of invaders inside the ship.
Any force trying to get into your ship is overwhelmed by Xenomorphs and does not return.
Nightkill Method: Occupy
Kinda lame that I got screwed in my first ever game as a Mafia, but oh well.
The end of the game was pretty cool to watch, I thought TB was going down for sure.
Does anyone have any idea how I could have saved myself from getting lynched like that, in the event that it ever happens again?

When yer caught, yer caught. It's just damage control on the way down. Try and make the day as short as possible if that's in your control. Otherwise, don't reveal any info directly or indirectly.
I suppose it kinda makes up for not having a cop - although it could have been horrible for the town.
Axel - you said your nights were bad, but if you look at our lynches of neutral, scum, scum, town, scum, town, neutral - I would say that is pretty good going, and it was in fact the nights where we lost it.
Well, technically, yeah. Yodavader killed three townies. Plus ~Tilde~ shot KoD, which was what allowed us to get the triple last Night. And Cyan shot Ced, which was what exposed him. We were very fortunate in all those respects, which was what made up for our terrible luck with our own Night choices.

That is one thing that frustrated me about this game. The town really only mislynched twice, but still lost. Yes, we lynched a neutral survivor..but that really shouldn't count, because a survivor is not ever going to work for the side of the town, unless the town is so far ahead that said survivor really doesn't matter. I think that this should have been a 4 mafia game, or if 5 mafia, should not have included a survivor(if Tilde is town, there is no way he acts the way that he did). A town should always get at least 3 mislynches before the game is over, IMO. But again..just a minor gripe, I still liked the overall design.
Ok, to answer some questions - @Ced395 -Syrenz was the resurrection ship. KoD was the Base Star. You were the Rogue Centurions. The first time either you or KoD was killed, as long as Syrenz was still alive, you would each be resurrected, on Syrenz ship, with no abilities, after the next day's lynch. If you and ced both died before Syrenz, you'd get "reprogrammed", become town, and become an unconfirmed vanilla mason group. Of course, when the Res ship dies, any or all players on it die with it.
This was my first hosting experience of Mafia, and it's been a massive learning experience for me. Probably the main disappointment in this game for me was my poor modding - I screwed up Ced's nightkill, and also failed to notice that the Mafia wanted to change their kill target to Cyan not Ced the previous night while he cloaked.
Another reason I'm disappointed is because DYH's ability (and PR) was that if he could make a certain number of players say "Smeg" without directly asking them to in any way he'd gain various abilities - though he couldn't talk about his PR or method of gaining abilities. If he'd gotten 1-5 other players indirectly to say Smeg he'd have gained a sensor-based Investigate not usable if used the Night before. 6-9 players, he'd have gained a kill with the same restriction - and 10+ he'd have lost his post restriction, gained the ability to protect against weaponfire, and lost the restriction of "every two nights" for all his abilities.
It was my favourite role, one I've had made for quite some time. It's survived three different themes of games.
bataleur's games (god, they were so long ago - I'm getting old) both had 0 replacements / modkills. Hats and Court mafia (I think - I think I'm starting to lose my memory in my old age).
Bateleur's games don't entirely count..he refuses to replace/modkill anyone, ever, under any circumstances(barring pm quoting etc. for modkills).
Incidentally, next time I think someone is scum, I am never, ever giving up on it. You got me once, Axel. Good luck next time.

Yeah, I'll admit that while I was watching, I still thought town would be fine because there would only be one scum left. The scenario looks like 5 scum + 1 very strong SK + 1 survivor (that's not understanding what DYH is, and assuming he votes w/ the town), and the town w/o an investigative role for a 22 player game. That's almost a third of the players who don't vote with the town, and despite the fair amount of protection roles, there were enough kills to make it through (I'll admit bad vigging really hurt the town).
The other problem with an investigation-less game is that the game running long really favors the scum, especially here, as they gain abilities. I really can't help but feel like this game really needed one less scum, of some type.
This being said, I thought there were some really interesting and very well designed roles in this one. The protection-loaded game is also an interesting environment, and while I wouldn't say it excites me, I'm glad I went through the experience.
I would actually like to apologize a bit, I kind of felt like my play was lazy this time. I was actively trying to stay in the background early, to stay alive as doc (which, in the end, wasn't nearly as important as it usually is), which ended up going poorly as it drew Cyan-rage, and after that point, I was simply convinced that I was going to die immediately, which kind of made me stop caring. Anyway, live and learn.
Good game scum, I'll admit didn't have Axel pegged as scum the whole game, and was only mildly suspicious at the end.

That was a last minute change, basically I added it because you said the town needed a power role tuned up a little - and it added that extra bit of investigation that the town needed I think.
MMoD's role started as vanilla, also, but his role gains various techs as he exploerd one of three areas on the ship each Night. No role, no matter how many abilities it had could do more than one thing each Night (with the exception of a trade with Dagger)
He could investigate Sensors (info-type abiities) - After one Night on Sensors he gained a tech which let him send a message anonymously through the Mod to another player at Night. If he spent a couple more nights exploring Sensors he would have gained the Sensor Drone tech which when attached to a player would perma-watch and perma-track them.
Weapons (defensive/offensive abilities) First night gave him Ancient Powered Suits which gave him a one-shot ability to repulse invasion/occupation abilities - which stopped Axel getting his little spidery claws into him at some point, then with three more Nights worth of investigation he could have become a full-vig when he reactivated the Destiny's weapon systems.
Shields (defense against weaponfire) Two nights of exploration partially reactivated the shields, giving a one-shot immunity to weapon fire. A further two nights gave him passive and complete immunity to weaponfire.

So then, on N7, we get our "triple-kill" and actually manage to win.
Whew.
Nicely done, WOD.
bataleur's games (god, they were so long ago - I'm getting old) both had 0 replacements / modkills. Hats and Court mafia (I think - I think I'm starting to lose my memory in my old age).
Incidentally, next time I think someone is scum, I am never, ever giving up on it. You got me once, Axel. Good luck next time.

"...a talisman against all evil, so long as you obey me."

Really wish I read my PM correctly the first time; I would've been a cop or vig by the end.
False. Court Mafia had a modkill..........me in Court Mafia. Of course it was for violating a Posting Restriction, which i did intentionally (fun situation).
sooooo yeah.
Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
