Once again, Wall of Reverence has been fantastic. Holds the fort and gains life so you can swing in with your flyers. Combos great with 5 power lodetsone and 4 power queller. I keep going back and forth on smother...love it when it hits rhox war monk or knight of the reliquary...hate it when they play BSA, Bloodbraid, Gideon, etc. So far, hoping consuming vapors will be enough in addition to 3x day and oring. Although, honestly I might just run 4x oring considering how strong it is in the meta right now. Also thinking about fleshbag marauder again and sign in blood now that Wall of Reverence gives so much life back.
I like sculler as well. I'd leave him in. The ably change I'd make is the drop the arcane sanctum and just add in more expanses. You aren't running any blue and the sanctum is citp tapped. You might as well run a better emeria trigger IMO. Glad to see you having better results though.
Because conservative bias is a far, far worse thing. Liberal bias doesn't, statistically speaking, make people stupid. Conservative bias (or at least Fox's version of it) does.
@dantcg: this may seem like an obscure question, but what is the main purpose of Esper Charm? I ask cause I'm considering building this deck and seeing what I can do with it when some of the cards rotate in October.
So before I give up on the deck I thought I would take it to an FNM to test whether it has any potential.
Went 4-0. The build I took was the one above.
Here is my report:
R1: 2-0
The kid was playing a green/red eldrazi ramp token build with broodwarden. O-ringed all his huge threats, Identity crisis on T8 and emeria swung over for the win G1. Cake. No Sb. G2 he has a much better hand and gets several of the non-mythic eldrazi out. Nighthawk however was the mvp and holds off the onslaught until I win with Emeria angel.
R2: 2-0
A friend of mine playing an intense valakut ramp deck he has been working on for months. G1 he had to mull to 5...I kept a strange hand: Gargoyle, Tectonic, Grim, Wall of Omens, 2 3 drops and queller. Since I knew what he was playing and I could draw out of the bad hand with either color source I kept it. He ramped out but I edged his valakut. I drew the mana I needed on T4, play WoO drawing a needed land and played out an emeria next turn. He plays all is dust on T6 wiping emeria and some other creatures. I respond next turn with grim and lay a world queller and emeria in the following turns. He plays 2x siege gang. I o-ring one of them and get in for the win in the air with Emeria and nighthawk.
G2: Tidehollow on 2 taking his ramp piece, Hypnotic on 3, hypnotic sticks since I know he lacks removal. Hypie destroys his hand and I start sniping his lands and stray creatures with World Queller. g to the g
R3: 2-0
He is playing a mediocre vamps build with a bunch of equipment. Tidehollow on T2 both games just wrecks his hand and world queller eats his lands. He dropped 3 spells a game...mostly equipment as I keep his bombs safely under the sculler.
R4: 2-1
Another friend of mine playing Grixis control. G1 he triple blightnings me but can't find the removal for my T3 nighthawk, T4 hypnotic specter. I gain back all the life and wreck his hand...The duo goes the distance.
G2: He mulls to five and I duress him T2. He has 2 land out and shows 2x blightning, 1x bolt, 1x Jace. I think it over and choose the blightning since my hand is somewhat mediocre and I am color screwed on mana. 2x blightning will win but I think I can deal with jace. In retrospect, I probably should have taken the bolt since I had nighthawk and hypnotic in hand. Anyway, he top decks the land he needs and blightnings me. I then proceeded to play my wall of reverence and duress the Jace out of hand. I then draw 6 land in a row...then sign in blood to 2 more land. He topdecks the land and plays 2x siege-gang. I lose
G3: We are going to time...he decides to scoop to me since he had the bye R1 and I give him the promo card. We play it out anyway; I have a strong hand with hypnotic, nighthawk and duress but he gets t5 t6 siege gangs out again and I lose the game. I definitely should have sided in zealous persecution for the match...didn't even occur to me until too late how strong it would be in this matchup.
Even though I had some easy match-ups, the deck really performed for me. Sailing to an easy 6-0 into R4 is pretty unusual. The build impressed me, and I think including 4x oblivion ring and 2x sign in blood was the right call. I felt like currently there are too many tokens in my meta to make consuming vapors the right choice. It turned out to be correct. Emeria angel was an all-star and will be upped to 3 again. Wall of reverence was great, wall of omens was somewhat mediocre. I added the perimeter captain since I have a wall sub-theme...the games I did get it out, it stopped his attack cold. Nonetheless, it can probably be a SB card. Grim discovery is the nuts.
The Sb needs to be cleaned up...I boarded R1: 0 R2: 2 R3: 0 and R4: 10. I had a huge amount of board for Grixis (hexmage, duress, firewalker, mind shatter and crisis) and probably over-boarded. Duress was the best card in the board. I'll have to think about what to change.
Changes I'll probably make:
+1x sculler: T2 sculler won every game he came down.
+1x Emeria: win-con, defense, and world queller's buddy all in one
-1x Perimeter captain: great card...SB material
-1x wall of omens: too many walls...wall of reverence is better
---
@mathias: Esper charm gives us card advantage and discards at instant speed...both are incredibly strong for the deck and fits with the rock-style win by overpowering them through superior resources strategy of the deck. Unfortunately, I found that blue hurt the mana-base too much. Sign in blood was a decent replacement for it.
@Mathias: There isn't a perfect post rotation replacement for Esper Charm, as in this deck it isn't used mainly to draw, to make them discard or to hit enchantments... it simply does what its better fitted to do at the time. Its utility. If anyone begs to differ, please speak up, as I haven't played any magic (and thus haven't used this deck) for a while now, but my exams are nearly over

I replaced Fleshbag and Bloodghast with Nighthawk and Omens; There's cool synergy between the former duo, but I still love the latter two a lot more.
Never really liked Oust, so I main'ed Duress. Duress -> Sculler -> Specter -> Vapours -> Queller -> Crisis is broke, lol.
Side'd Day in. Prolly won't work as well without Mnemonic to get the Discoveries back tho.
Things I'm thinking of trying out:
Zealous Persecution: I see that dlite's been side'ing those. How have they been working out for you? I'm somewhat doubtful, since the deck's focus isn't to deal lotsa dmg in one turn.
Virulent Swipe, Silence: For possible shenanigans during opp's turns?

Has anyone noticed how the OP uses comic sans ? what a clown who can take that seriously
Because obviously, the font you use has a direct effect on the validity of your statements. Thanks for the input. It really helps make the deck better /sarcasm.
@Sayokyoku- I think Dlite's been siding the persecition more as a sweeper than as a straight win-con. That's just a guess though.
Because conservative bias is a far, far worse thing. Liberal bias doesn't, statistically speaking, make people stupid. Conservative bias (or at least Fox's version of it) does.
The zealous are for tokens, siege-gang and bant. It handily kills birds, hierarch, spawn tokens, and little elves, while pumping our side of the board. I haven't really had any of these match-ups yet though so I can't say how it has been.
Went to a tournament last night as well with the deck...went 1-3. Lol...Mana flood both games R1, severe mana screw R2, deck plays like a champ R3, went to time R4 against Jund.
I feel like the deck needs a bomby win-con or some other way to put the nail in the coffin once you have depleted their side. The mana base also still needs to be smoothed out. Now that I've reconfigured it a bit, I might try ob again. Arcane sanctum also seems necessary since it allows 1 plains 1 swamp to be able to play anything in the deck, unlike terramorphic expanse where you must choose to either get 2x WW or 2x BB.
If the Persecutions are acting as sweepers, I think Day might be better. I just played against a Vamp deck, and everything's easily above two toughness. Their Nighthawks also make the pump underwhelming.
I was under the impression that Crisis is the win-con of the deck? Screwing someone over for something like four turns straight, then trashing their hand and grave sounds harsh enough to be called a win-con IMO. o.o
i really like how survival cache works, especially if you hold it back for when you've stabilized, it just increases your gains over the opponent.
i moved identity crisis because ive found it to be a dead card a lot of the time when i draw it as my opp doesnt have a hand after turn 7ish, i put it in the SB for control matchups tho.
the SB may need work, i havent really tested it yet.
i originally had the zelous persecution SB but moving it to main made a lot of sense to me.
otherwise its pretty close to the latest versions of this deck.
WTF? You don't even have Discoveries in your deck? o.O;
I'd say, pick one outta Duress and Inq, SB the other in place of Doom Blade and add Discoveries. Even getting just a fetchland or Edge back is nice. Getting both a creature and a land back is just plain awesome.
I just tried dlite's version which worked really well. has a bit of a tough matchup against Koros B'whacker tho. I like adding 1-2 necromancer's covenant.
Really like the matchup against aggro now and any sort of deck that relies on non-basic lands (valakut, emeria, etc). Wall of omens blunts the attack, bird tokens chump, wall of rev and nnighthawk gets the life back, day wipes, and emeria and queller finish it. Jund of course can be more trouble if they blightning several times early on, but grim undoes a lot of the damage.
Amazingly, I've found that planeswalker control is probably our hardest match-up, but more on that in a sec
-Hypnotic specter: like him but I realized that the deck works best when it comes out swinging early with discard and tidehollow support. Heavy disruption followed by grim discovery is what really wins games. Sadly, mind rot as trashy as it is, does this better. Really hoping they reprint stupor in M11, although unlikely.
-Inquisition of kozilek: T1 play to support tidehollow by removing their removal.
-Arcane Sanctum: really helps you get that WW BB. Has really helped the mana-base
-Pithing needle: *start rant* One of things I like about this deck is being able to recur hexmage to snipe walkers + queller's ability to hit them as well. Nonetheless, I've found that Jace 2.0 is so ☺☺☺☺ing retarded that even if I packed a ☺☺☺☺load of hate, a resolved jace always spells a loss...they bounce queller and bury us in card advantage that we have worked so hard to achieve. Since wizards decided to break standard with planeswalkers, it seems every sideboard requires 3-4 needles at this point, even this one. *end rant*
hi guys, im new to this forum and i have been looking at this thread for quite sometime. i really like this deck because of the color! hahahah
anyway i want to know if it is a good a idea to put on corrupted zendikon on this one also come m11 the Sun titan would be a great addition. The problem is I dont know what to remove
Sun Titan is definitely a good addition, but try not to talk about m11 yet (You can get infracted, and I bet I'll get infracted here for back seat modding >_>)... anyway... Corrupted Zendikon doesn't really strike me as a good inclusion to this deck, what is your reasoning for it?

zendikons puts back your land back in your hand once they die... so i figured you can enchant tectonic edge and attack with it or block then once they reach 4 lands sacrifice tectonic edge to kill you opponents nonbasic land and get it back coz' of zendikon. same thing when you sacrifice it with world queller...:)
Took my updated deck to FNM tonight. Went 1-3....pretty disappointing. The deck just doesn't seem to have the consistency and power to continue to perform well for me. Maybe the new set will help, I don't know.

dlite, have you considered trying out Colonnade and/or Tar Pit? You already have Arcane Sanctum, so activating them shouldn't be a huge prob, and both can act as decent answers to Jace.
