I think the most important question to be answered in regards to these possibly meaning new walkers is this: Is Sorin's character text a match for the known Markov? I have been looking at it..and it might be, so...that's a positive sign towards new walkers. It is super blurry so it's hard to tell though.
Yes, Sorin's and Gideon's names in the screenshot both match their current Japanese names (as far as I can tell, the pics are kinda blurry), so I'm pretty sure WotC isn't puling a fast one here.
This really shouldn't be a surprise to people. The Lorwyn planeswalkers have been in THREE major sets now (2 core sets in a row) and have become stale and boring. It wouldn't make sense financially for WotC to release them again and provide no incentive for people to buy M12. The first clue should have been the fact that Liliana and Ajani weren't being reprinted. Not sure why the mods were so dead set on them being reprinted when all logic pointed the other way.
Im tired of people saying the phoenix works well with nalaar, when the phoenix works even better with ablaze. discard any red card get your phoenix back. Discard phoenix get your phoenix back, never run out of cards to discard to her
how finalized was the set when they stated Jace wouldn't be reprinted?
It was a tweet or an article around the time of the last Ban-list announcement. M12 has been printed for over 6 months now, and is likely all printed and sitting waiting for the releases.
New art on the boosters confirms it to me that we are getting new versions.
I really doubt they're going to make new versions of walkers outside of a storyline set. I guess it's fun for people to widly speculate, even when it just leads to disappointment again.
WotC will do what they want, as they have proven throughout the years. Always look to where the money is and your answers will be there.
Props to our japanese Rumor-goers for these finds lately
I'm mildly surprised, mainly for the reason that after all these years I keep thinking they wouldn't print something like brand new Planeswalkers in a Core Set and save them for block sets with how tied in they are to the flavor/stories of the Multiverse. But, all things considered, if they reprinted the same cycle of Planeswalkers for M12 two out of three mythic slots for each color would be a reprint this Core Set if the Titan cycle is truly staying in
...that was a kitten crawling on my keyboard and managing to submit the post while I was editing it somehow. Leaving that there for comedic value.
Anyway, it'll be good to see new Planeswalkers.
And removed so it doesn't stretch people's screens.

So they're going to reprint Jace The Mind Sculpter and abandon the reprint policy, are they?
No, that would most likely cause more of a backlash and lose them money and customers. Something fresh is what will sell. With all the titans most likely being reprinted, there would be nothing else to really drive sales of the set except new planeswalkers.
So these are part of the selling point of M12... new PWs.
PW are really getting to be the focus of the game.... its like PW will appear and have uses in every format more and more....
EDIT: It would be cute if the theme decks are based on the 5 walkers.... each with their namesake cards to boot (1 rare, 2 uncommon, 3-4 commons) .... if true I will definitely buy al 5!
This news might be really surprised vorthos because M12 is core set.
Doug Beyer says:
As the planeswalker characters grow and change, you'll see other planeswalker cards show up in future sets that bear the same subtype as ones you know. Who's next? I have to leave that as a mystery for now, but I can promise that you'll see people come and go as their stories demand.
Hate to be a spoilsport but there is literally nothing to suppose the cards behind are the planeswalkers at all, for all we know that could be 4 random cards in the correct colours.
As previously noted the green card has the same text as Primeval Titan, maybe they just grabbed a card of the correct colour to fan behind the Gideon.
The rounded edge of the borders meeting with the card title frame are pretty much a dead give away that they're Planesewalkers. Also marketing-wise, with the set's tagline being "Gather Your Allies", it wouldn't make sense that the others behind Gideon aren't Planeswalkers since they're what are being hyped most for the set. Also the red card's artwork's coloring matches that of Chandra's new art where it'd fit into the frame. And Sorin's reprint.
But if you really need clear proof that they're Planeswalkers, I whipped this comparison up in photoshop:
Maybe a third Jace? Like a neutered JtMS with only 3 abilities instead of four (to bring him back in line with the rest)? Would simply tearing off one of his abilities make him desirable and distinct enough from Beleren without being overpowered?
Well, this is nice and definitely adds something to the set if true.
I really wish D. Alexander Gregory was a bit more creative with his rendition of Garruk, though (again, only if it's actually a new Garruk).
Edit: Also, I was really hoping for a GB Garruk in Innistrad. We could still see it, of course, but would they print 2 new versions of him within the span of a few sets? Anything's possible, but I doubt it. Boo!
While the shots are definitely fuzzy this seems plausible at least. 3 versions of Jace is a little much for my taste, but having Chandra Ablaze come back is just fine with me, and a new version of Garruk would definitely be a nice treat for a core set.
I, for one, am disappointed. The Lorwyn Garruk was one of the best planeswalkers ever printed. He was well balanced, but helped you a ton in the game. He was extremely versatile, and could find a home in almost any deck that ran green. He was exactly what a Planeswalker should be. I'll miss him.

I read these and can't help but laugh. A million people go "OMG, a 3rd Jace? Wha!? NO! I'm so sick of them printing Jaces" and not a soul says a word along the lines of "OMG, a 3rd Chandraa? Wha? How could they. Booorrriiinnggggg...."

Garruk is very good, but I noted that according to their GDS, they didn't like bad tension within the abilities. For Garruk that meant trying to make creatures and trying to overrun which never complemented each other
So long as they're not heavily metagame-warping, bring 'em. You don't really see Planeswalkers aside from JTMS, Koth, Gideon, and occasionally Elspeth in my local scene, so I'll welcome anything that would diversify that some.

The anti-synergy is that making creatures is a -ability, taking you further away from his ultimate.
I agree that he doesn't synergize that well with himself, but I also strongly feel that he is perhaps the best balanced PW printed this far. Every one of his abilities is awesomely useful without being overpowered, and I'd like to see most PWs fall somewhere within his power level.
I still don't understand how some PWs slip through with just horrible abilities, horrible costs, and then the heinously powerful ones as well. I mean seriously, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that, say, Jace 2.0 is several orders of magnitude better than any of the Chandras for instance.
Koth is another walker that strikes me as pretty legit. A powerful + ability, an even more situationally powerful - ability that is risky to his well-being but sometimes worth it, and a game-changing ultimate. I like those.

I guess I will reserve judgment for the time being. Good find though. Very good.

If WotC can pull a bunch of Legendary Creatures, with no storyline, out of thin air, what's the harm in new forms of 'Walkers?

Try overrunning without creatures.
Magic has never been "somewhat cheap".
...and reprinting JtMS (which they aren't doing) would only serve to lower the average price of the card.
