So I'm Japanese, so I was watching the promo movie for Magic 2012 (where gideon "dies")
at the last scene, the cards are shown and I realised that there is a Kanji on Jace with furigana on top of it. The movie was low quality so I couldn't make out what the Kanji was, but Jace Beleren (ジェイス・ベレレン)doesn't have a Kanji at the start of his name.
same with Chandra Nalaar (チャンドラ・ナラー), She had a Kanji at the start of her name.
also Garruk Wildspeaker (野生語りのガラク)had a different Kanji at the start of the cardname, it seems it's 原 maybe primeval perhaps (原始) like in primeval titan (原始のタイタン)this is confirmed by the number of furigana which seems to appear, 野(や)生語りのガラク 原(げん)始.
It could be that Wizards is being sneaky and trying to trick us Japanese people, but I don't think that's the case here
After cross-checking with the Japanese card names on Gatherer I can confirm that the names in the screenshot indeed does not match the Japanese names of the Lorwyn walkers.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
The sparkmage shrieked, calling on the rage of the storms of his youth.
To his surprise, the sky responded with a fierce energy he'd never thought to see again.

Yes but almost all planeswalker cards (Chandra's Phoenix, Jace's Archivist, Jace's Erasure, etc.) seem to fit just fine with their older versions, for example the Phoenix works perfectly with Chandra Nalaar and Jace's Archivist/Erasure are perfect complements to Jace Beleren. The same applies to Gideon's cards.
So either Chandra, Jace and Garruk are the old versions, or the new versions do similar things to the older (Jace mills, Chandra pings, etc).
Only Garruk's Horde does not fit with the old Garruk. So if Garruk is new, one of the abilities will be to search the library for a creature and put it on top.
how finalized was the set when they stated Jace wouldn't be reprinted?
I couldn't tell you. I only know that their development of the Core sets is a little shorter than their normal sets, because they don't have to generate a world.

No as pointed out a billion times before, the art kind of seen on that same preview, the "Jace" has normal sized walker art, meaning 3 abilities as opposed to the four on TMS. If it's not Beleren, it's brand new.
But that isn't saying it isn't Beleren, the kanji that appears on all those fuzzy cards looks eerily similar, it may be they just used one set of characters on all and those aren't the real cards text we see.
No, JtMS is not in M12. The screenshot doesn't fit (the Jace in the video doesn't have enough space for 4 abilities), the Japanese name doesn't fit, and most importantly WotC has already admitted that JtMS was a mistake, which means they won't be reprinting him anytime soon.

This is really important to note again for everyone to see before the thread blows up to 34 pages of OMG JACE AGAIN OMFG!
Probably. They did it with Baneslayer when she was hot, so they will likely do it with Jace.
Except BSA existed in Core only when she was introduced, and they've admitted JTMS was a mistake (and MaRo's said that he isn't likely to be reprinted).
absolutely not. they went so far as to write an article saying that he really shouldn't have been done. Besides, new walkers answers our question as of to how they planned to sell the set. you and me both know the hatred that would come from many of yet another year of jace, something i guarantee you wizards isn't stupid enough to do.
I really don't know what to think. Sounds like they could be new versions, but I don't want to get my hopes up. If they AREN'T new versions, then this is shaping up to be one incredibly lame core set. Ten reprint mythics? Tons of junk un/commons (Way more than M11 so far). No exciting reprints so far, aside from Goblin Grenade (at the cost of Bolt)? Over half of the set is spoiled and the only thing I'm excited about is the Illusion lord and a couple of new dragons for my collection.
I think the most important question to be answered in regards to these possibly meaning new walkers is this: Is Sorin's character text a match for the known Markov? I have been looking at it..and it might be, so...that's a positive sign towards new walkers. It is super blurry so it's hard to tell though.

Chandra's first letter seems 2 furigana-like letter over a kanji-like letter.
I'm afraid it because Ablaze & JTMS start by kanji in Japanese Text.
燃え立つチャンドラ/Chandra Ablaze
精神を刻む者、ジェイス/Jace, the Mind Sculptor
But "燃"'s furigana is a letter,"も".not two.
What do you think?
