It looks like the gargoyle text reads something similar to "When this is put into the graveyard from play, put a 3/3 flying gargoyle token into play"
Perhaps that is also its Haunt effect?
*edit* It really looks like it says "when the haunted creature an opponent controls is put into the graveyard, place a gargoyle creature token that is 3/3 (maybe 4/4?) with flying into play."

Wow...These cards are nice. Many thanks to the people who found/scanned/got them from somebody...Whatever...Anyways...
Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and Invoke....Crazy! But Niv-Mizzet works with a hell of alot of other things too...Mindmoil, (the flavor text even mentions the Izzet) Greater good, and card drawer, Terefi's Puzzel box....Jeeze I can see alot of decks abusing the ablity. For the text...Doesn't it mean something like tap for 1 damage? Its just in a...Izzet Wizards way of communicating?
Mimeofacture...Instant removal of any Legend, and if you have the mana, and im not mistakin, you should be able to stack the replicates of the spell, and pull out a third legend under your control. Crazy
Seige of Towers....Permanent 3/1 mountains? Ahhh!
Borbogymos....Is just huge, and more or less a game winner if he gets through a few turns.
Anyways, has there been a conformation of the wording on Mortify?
Call me a party pooper, but I’m not too happy with Niv-Mizzet’s flavor text. It looks like jibberish they just made up to look all cutesy math-and-science-y. Z minus greater than? Z arrow? Raised to the power of 90 degrees? East minus Northwest? East to Northwest? Times t? It looks like the equation of a line. With WotC having at least one MIT graduate in R&D, I expect better.
Well, OK; you're a party pooper.
I suspect the flavor text has something to do with the flavor of the story. Damned if I know what it means; I'll actually have to read the book (although my kid, who took Chemistry last year, says it looks like it has something to do with melting).

Kurama I like the way you're thinking about that. Thinking like an Izzet with Gruul parents.
You know what the best thing about Niv's flavor text is? It correctly states how to tap. I can STAND the n00bs that turn their cards at like 45degrees or less and call it "tapped". It looks like they bumped their cards. It's so hard to tell if they're tapped or not. Grrrr. Now i'm gonna get a bunch of them so I can tell them they're not tapping right oh yeah.

Mark Rosewater: "We won't print contstructed utility cards at Mythic."
Nope, you'll print format defining, absolutely necessary cards at mythic instead.
I know what you mean Phylar...I hate it when people do that, and when people tap their cards the other way (to the left) I mean, the cards even have the tap symbol pointing to the right, and some of them have the nerve to tell me its easier to turn it to the left? Wow. But yeah, I second that thought on Niv-Mizzet's flavour text being good.
as someone with a BA in math, i can state that, if niv-mizzet's flavor text represents something legitimate, i was certainly not in that class. it looks like total gibberish... standard convention would, for example, place the 90-degree notations as subscripts, as opposed to superscripts, where they'd easily be confused for exponents. as exponents, they make little sense, unless there's some funky math that covers it.
my best guess would be that they wanted to make something that looks like some really freakin hard math... without having to worry about making something that makes sense... that could possibly represent the act of tapping to draw 1 and deal 1. the weirder it looks, the more "brainy" it looks, and the more convinced we should be that niv-mizzet is super-genius of ravnica.
i have mixed emotions. i am sure this will be a preview card on the official site, probably the card cavotta gets, and probably he will spend about 25% of the article talking about the flavor text.

This doesn't work. Once the two legends kill each other off, the copy no longer has a legal target, and is countered.
I'd suggest targetting another creature with the replicate copies.

This makes me feel a little more justified. My problem is that (unless it is shown to be genuine notation) it is lazy. Sure you could make up a silly equation, but why not take the effort to do it properly? I don’t accept the excuse of “it’s a different plane, so why do they have to use Earth mathematics?” If they translate prose-based flavor text into sentences with proper Earth-language grammar, math should be no different.
It could be that the variables are the italian version, and it is also possible that italians (being european, and not from the english lineage) use a different style of notation. If there is someone with a math or science related degree from italy i bet we could decipher more about this txt.
"If I do go to heaven, I'll smack god across the face and tell him to get me a grilled-cheeses sandwhich and then say 'Yea what now god!? Say some'in! I dare you!' "

an ex of mine was educated outside the US (in greece, so not too far from italy) and i helped her with her math courses. notations are consistent across the globe, at least in languages with european alphabets... the only real difference is that europeans do long division differently.
math would be very confusing if every society had their own notation for the basics; numbers need to be consistent

I can only hope that Orzhov sorcery has a mana cost of 4 or less. If it does, that thing is going to be the nuts in Legacy. Paying 4 to completely wipe out Goblins, Gro, or other random Zoo decks sounds pretty hot to me.
If the Gargoyle does indeed create 3/3 tokens with haunt, that could actually be a very strong effect. It seems like it would be a nice fit in B/W control or U/W control as a way to wrath and be left with the only creature.
Borgymos is a freaking beast. That thing is going to be nuts if you can get it down in limited. I also might even use it in constructed as a one or two of in RG beats just because it's so strong. It basically ends the game if your opponent doesn't answer it REALLY quickly.
Niv Mizzet is surprisingly nice too. I'm not sure if any top tier decks really have room for it because of its mana cost, but a lot of people will be trying to break it with random combos like Mindmoil or Teferi's Puzzle Box. Counterburn, if it becomes viable, will definitely be using it as their finisher.

Yeah, last I checked, Wrath of God was good. And cost four.
All this makes me want GP Prerelease to happen faster.
The last time I was this excited was when I opened Jitte at BOK prerelease.

Last I checked Wrath destroyed ALL creatures. The selectiveness of the Orzhov one can make it a lot better. Wiping out Goblins and still having your Exalted Angel swinging at them is an incredible effect, and is why the Orzhov sorcery would be played over Wrath in decks that have the right mana.

Is it me, or if you turn Niv Mizzet sideways, the equation basically reads "Niv Mizzet" in leet speek?
Niv is impressive. I think I can fit him in my old school R/W/U deck. I just hope the Orzhov Angel is blantantly playable like Niv...then again it is fun to find a card nobody deams playable >_o

I'd love input and advice!
so what it is 2 weeks before we will even see the picks and 2 more after that before they are released over here
Yeah, so everyone will have to learn to deal with what we have. No big.

It means turn 90 degrees on the z axis to deal 1 damage.

Four. It says whenever you draw A card, meaning it will happen four times if you draw 4.
