It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
I wouldn't read too much into the anagrams from combining the emails. With that many letters, it's not unlikely that one would find something vaguely plausible (like "Err At Combating Horror").
"Got Reborn" sounds pretty good for today's, though. And "Cathar" something for Monday's.

These letters and emails are really fantastic, in terms of immersing us into the world and getting us to care about the themes. In Scars they had the war to get the players 'involved', and now we have these mysterious letters.
I can't find them anywhere on this forum, but during PAX there were ten flyers / letters laid around the tables for flavor purposes. I collected them and am going to post them here over the next few minutes.

Farmer Roller,
You must cease the rumors about my daughter and that dim-witted thatcher!

To my esteemed fellows at Elgaud Academy
The nature of the Helvault confounds me!
It is absurd to call it a ruined monument.
As for a shard of silver moon, who dares call me a fool? We must implore the Lunarch for another viewing.
This mystery cannot elude us.
- H. Karlmahn
Brother V,
I had a curious nightmare.
Your blade met innocent flesh and a drop of blood spilled on the ground.
The drop became a stream and the stream became a relentless river of blood.
And the world drowned under the red tide.
I insist that you explain this witchcraft.
Brother J.
Elder of Gatstaf.
I shall send you a copy of my almanac,
but until that time
Harvest Moon-
Recite the Ward of Bounty for prosperous hardy wheat and root-crops. Wards of Firelight discourage vampires from attacking the reapers.
Hunter's Moon -
Venture out if you must. But always hunt in groups and renew your Wanderer Wards at crossways altars.
New Moon-
Honor the migrating herons with feasting. Wards of Kindness will ameliorate the vengeance gods.
Elder Detlef
Master Lywer,
When you cross the moors, stay on Angel's Way until you reach the river. Say a blessing at each altar you pass. Do not permit night to overtake you.
I haven't the manpower to recover your corpse.
Gregel
Militia Captain
Another note:
A lot of people thought that this was a puzzle for PAX, as in previous years there was a puzzle with a $1000 dollar prize, and this hints at such a prize. As such, many attendees snatched up as many of these as they could to prevent others from finishing the puzzle while they figured it out, so only a few people managed to acquire full sets.
Me and a friend spent a few hours going at this. At some point we asked if it was solvable given the information. Staff said it was not a puzzle, but merely some flavor. And that it contained some interesting stuff if you looked into it.
We got so close to solving a puzzle that didn't exist.
So, Reika the Peddler made a wanted poster of himself?!?
Sorry, no. The text of the printed flyer includes that at the bottom. The DEAD OR ALIVE "REIKA THE PEDDLER" is printed in much larger text, presumably to make people notice the wanted poster. It's difficult to show this without pictures but I will not have a camera until I get off work.
The Pitre in question seems to be the same as the one the emails. I don't see any reference to the Lorelei or Jorelda from the first email, but that one also mentioned Pitre, so I'm guessing the two are linked. I wonder if there are ways to get emails regarding these other figures.
Edit: Just kidding, Lorelei/Jorelda is the daughter in the first letter up there.
It's unusual that the mayor would have such a low opinion of Pitre, and then instantly declare him a hero at the first opportunity. I wonder if their relationship came to the mayor's attention, and so he attempted to make Pitre into a hero to make it more reasonable for his daughter to marry him? Also, the letter between brothers V and J seems odd. Why would they conceal their full names? It doesn't sound like they are part of the cult, since the writer is so suspicious.
some things that catch my eyes are:
helvault? this sounds fairly important and flavorful to the lives of the beings in Innistrad... possible artifact from the way it sounds
Shard of silver moon... again... but it seems as though its a mystery to them. another possible artifact? not sure, sounds cool
Pitre the Thatcher... important dude. Legend?
Reika the Peddler.... thief... another important person in this story?
blood soaked grave... something that is key to this fallen angel?
still sounds like the moons could be enchantments of some kind... world enchatments still? i donno, im hoping one of them keeps day/night from changing as long as its on the field. would be cool.
interesting thoughts and awesome flavor i cant wait for this set.
I'm wondering if the flipping through the cards here is actually spelling out a message... Like, the first letter of each card?
Nope. I made the complete list of every card and posted it. S, W, I, B, G, T, L... nope. Or first letter of each word? S, A, W, O, D, I, M, B, V, G, G, T, W, L, R... nope. I tried looking for anagrams, maybe, but I didn't see any.
I thought it was interesting that he took the time to show us each card individually, yet he never showed us the Elvish Bard. It was stuck to the Deathgrip he dropped. I interpreted that action as "meh, this card isn't part of the game anyways." So I tried to figure out which cards mattered. The cards which were sleeved? Icy Manipulator, Ishan's Shade, Illusionary Mask, Boomerang, Desert... I'm not seeing it. The cards following the cards which were sleeved? Every card following an artifact?
This deck was only 56 cards, and old decks ought to be 60. And the last 30 cards were all lands. Also, 5x Scrubland. This deck was stacked but I can't figure out why.
I do not know what has happened, but I feel a great curse has fallen over us. Ah, the days I can look back upon, in my carefree youth, when they world had such wonder, such flavor, such a draw upon me as to bring me hours of enjoyment simply wondering through it. But a dark time has befallen us.
Perhaps we should have seen it, when the visitor appreared and announced he was changing our card frames. We held our hopes high that the stranger would stay true to his word, but alas, his change altered our landscape from the picturesque village we know from our youth into the cookie cutter strip mall that blights the eyes today.
Then same stranger said, I will give you a new card type, and while we had our fears, we still opened our hearts to him, and in return for our goodness, the stranger gaves us planeswalkers, overpowered monstrosities that defied every tenet the village held dear for centuries. When we complained, our pleas fell on deaf ears.
And once again, the stranger arrived at our town center and announced, "I will be bringing you a new card rarity, one which will be special and shall not be a tournament staple!" And we rejoiced, for the stranger finally promised somehting that we thought was good. But once again he preyed on our good will and gave us Mythic rarity, which cast aside our carefully planned notioned of power levels, and were in fact requiremed tornamnet staples, which drained the towns coffers in thier collection, pushing us into pernury.
Then less than a fortnight ago, the stranger appeared again, seeking to defile any last vestige of that which we held dear. We thought he had done all he could do, that there was some last sliver of uncurruptable goodness we could hold close to our hearts. Then the stranger gave us double faced cards, and we know that all was lost.
So, my dearest, remember us. Our time is gone, our cause is lost, our hope has dwindled into the night. But do not let us be forgotten. Speak well of our past, and warn those you can about the horrors of the stranger, the evil devil king known as "MaRo". And write of us, Lorelei, write of use, so that we may never die, but perhaps hope to cling to life, and to hold true some spark of what were were, in the Legacy tourney scene.
I'm tempted to think that the "unveiling" of the story has a relation to the order of the spoiled cards.
Pitre failed to make Travel Preparations, leading to him falling to some vampires (Falkenrath Invaders). Now Raben (the writer in Josh Brauer's blog post) has appeared in the town of Hanweir on some kind of deadly mission with his book (Grimoire of the Dead). If this is right, Evil Twin is up next (maybe referencing the Brothers V and J from the party letter?).

I'm glad you brought this up.
Year Zero was epic, I had AiR flags stuck on everything.
But it really created the feel of an "alternate reality" with the flashdrive drops, resistance movement and hidden messages from the future... whereas Wizards' ARG so far just feels like an unpolished marketing ploy.
Solving clues and riddles in Year Zero gave us free audio clips and music tracks, which encouraged everyone to scour the internet and venues for any clue that could be uncovered. [strikethru]Solving[/strikethru] following web links in the Innistrad ARG nets us... advertisements for cards that we will buy in a couple months?

They have Planeswalkers... they could have had them send warning messages to our plane ala the resistance in YZ... something to bring the "alternate reality" into their ARG.
This book was once a place of solace for me. A refuge. Now that its prayers have somehow faded from its pages, I cannot help but think that it is a sign that Avacyn has forsaken me.
My father has sent me on a mission for yet another of the weapons. I haven't the heart to tell him that each of these quests has proven to be near fatal. I cannot let him down is it heresy to say that I fear his disappointment more than Avacyn's?
He has given me the name of a village; Hanwier. After (2? a?) long journey, and a short battle with a band of brigands, I arrived this night to the shuttering of windows and closing of doors. Whether this place is cursed as its inhabitants believe remains to be seen. The curse of mistrust is flourishing however.
So this book, once a place I went to for enlightenment, now becomes a place that will hopefully enlighten others. For I have little doubt that this is my final sortie. If I do not return, I pray to Avacyn that this book finds its way home.
Father, if you are reading this, I am sorry for failing you.
