High Tide combo in Pauper. That's right. Screw Brainfreeze, that **** ain't needed in the 'hood, you make do with what you GOTS, youknowwhatI'msayin'? I'm talking about a ghettofabulous High tide that involves lightin' a motha****a up with some red DAMAGE SPELLS motha****a! YEAH!!!!!11
This deck goes off turn 4-5 consistantly, and can go off turn 3 if needed. Basically, you just chain together High Tides, draw spells and untap effects until you get about 3 High tides in play, and make a ton of mana, and then pop a sphere to make red mana and torch them. Try the deck out, it's absolutely rediculous, and if you set your hand up correctly and practice, you will be able to get those 3-4 turn kills consistantly.
Here's another combo deck that is probably a little more resiliant, but at the same time, a few turns slower. It has protection for the combo, and a way to stop aggro from racing you:
As you can see, it is probably a few turns slower than the High Tide deck, but it can protect itself against disruption, as well as wipe away creatures that are trying to race the deck.
The tide is high, and I'm rollin' on. I'm gonna be your number one...
That's sweet, Alfred. Against any deck without countermagic- that's going to be a tough-to-beat. And if it goes off on turn 3, there's no hard-counter to stop it. (with the torch's additional 2 to counter)
Yeah, that deck is bonkers. Just try it out, it goes off turn 3! WITH ONLY COMMONS!
Basically, I've been trying to make a High Tide deck work for a while, and it took me a bit to realize that you do need cards that do more than cantrip. Impulse is good, because it finds you what you need quickly, but sometimes you want both the High Tide AND the Frantic Search off the top of the deck, and that's where Words of Wisdom, Ideas Unbound and AK really make a difference.
Also, note that Frantic Search on the turn you are going off basically reads, add X mana to your mana pool, and draw 2 cards. Basically because you discard the useless Islands that you've drawn.
With this deck in the format, MUC looks like it could be a much better deck than it looked before. You save your counters for High Tide and you should be fine. Also, MBC can deal with this deck by ripping apart their hand, and my MBC deck has 4 distresses in the side, so you can just surgically rip their hand apart before they can go off.
I think this deck is going to neccessitate some sort of Gro deck, because those deck have usually been very good against these types of decks. I'll start working on one immediately.
Alfred is our resident genius, ladies and gentlemen.
I haven't been as active Pauperly as I would like lately, but I definitely want to try these decks. I think I'm dangerously close to owning the 2nd, neo-Ire build in reality (I was running Kami-block Ire for a while).
My pet project is a W/U aggro, but it's nowhere near ready. More soon.

damn*t, what the hell am i sayin?
EDIT: but y didnt u use brainfreeze? oh...pauper..i digit...sori
Wow man nice decks, that just looks awesome. I'd been thinking about combos, but couldn't come up with anything except LIFE which is very fragile and has only one real way to go off in pauper.
Nice decks, Alfred. I challenged the clan to create an effective combo deck on our first thread, and Alfred (who did I expect?) rose to meet my challenge. Good work!
I am hoping that my SuiBlack can stand up to this monstrosity you've created. However, with Duress and Hymn to Tourach, I think there is a good chance.
On the prospect of voting in this month's clan contest: the answer is no. I PMed Furor and he informed me that we must participate in order to vote. So, that will have to wait for next month.
Fireball is legal, because it was printed as a common. It doesn't matter what it was last time, all that matters is if it was ever common... and it was!
Somebody (maybe me?) should make a library of common burn spells, similar to the ones we have for drawing and whatnot (see first post of thread). And, I suppose, we should make a library of pump spells, fitting with our thread title.
I'm gonna be out of town for a couple days (ah, holidays!) but when I come back, I'll try to do some of that, as well as present a mill deck worth its salt.
Guys, your red decks aren't screwed if you have Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast in the SB. That's probably the reason why a turn 3 Combo deck can exist, basically because there ARE answers available.
Somebody (maybe me?) should make a library of common burn spells, similar to the ones we have for drawing and whatnot (see first post of thread). And, I suppose, we should make a library of pump spells, fitting with our thread title.
Do you think we should have one for tutors and such too? That would be really helpful for trying to get a control, or a combo deck going.
Happy New Year, everyone. We have now entered a year of PoP clan dominance !
With the holidays winding down, I too will be returning in full force to our thread. Hopefully, this week, I will be able to craft some Pauper Dimir creation to give Polyjak's a run for its money.
Of course we should! Especially if you feel like compiling it! (I just use Gatherer, search, and sort results by rarity.)
Can do, it'll probably be a couple of days though.
I finished 3rd at FNM on Friday so I'm kinda happy. Played Critical Mass Update. I can't find my deck right now so no list, but couple of matchups.
Round 1 vs Josh-Greater Good/Gifts
Josh is the sports cards guy at a store I go to so I know him pretty well, and have played against his deck a couple of times. He hadn't played against my deck before so I had an advantage going in. He plays thisGoryo's vengeance+Footsteps of Goryo splice engine
Game 1:I have a Remand, top, Llanowar elves, and time of need in my opening hand. Throuout the entire game I have a counter in my hand on one off the top, so it goes pretty easy as the only thing he resolves are gifts and a greater good. Keiga, Meloku, and Arashi clean house.
Game 2: He actually gets his splice engine going, but I keep greater good out of play, so he isn't generating any card advantage. I have counters off the top for most of the game, and nail withThoughtbind what would be the game winning play of him getting double Koko with me at 3.
Round 2 vs Bill ??????
I have no idea whats he is playing. He is the highest ranked player there though, and I've never beat him.
Game 1: We keep dropping tribe elders back and forth. He cranials me for Keiga on turn 5, and I'm confused as I thought he go for Meloku. He dropsbloodbond march, and cloudstone curio on turn 6. I have no idea whats going on, but he drops Kemuri-onna, and haru-onna. I basically end up with no hand and he's drawing cards every turn. Also tribe elders are coming out of the grave every turn, scary stuff.
Game 2: I have a better understanding of whats going on, but I can't really stop it. I don't draw any of the things I sideboarded in and it goes much like game 1.
Round 3/4 are very easy except for the first game of round 4, it went for 30 minutes, and he was getting worn down by illusion tokens, which eventually got him.
Went 3-1, and my loss was to the winner so it looked good for my tie breakers, won 4 packs, pulled nothing signifigance.
That there are 6 ways to pump an elf in it :wink2:
Further it looks okay, although I would not use elvish beserker, rather useLlanowar Elite" target="blank">Llanowar Elite...
An elf deck with priest of titania and something like a fireball would also be very nice, I think I wil try to build one...
I tried something like that but it appears that I without creatures that can untap the priest its really hard to make the combo work. The only cards I know is the Seeker of Skybreak which could untap the priest. So its really hard to deal 20 damage with a fireball...with the untappers and the rares. Theres is also this enchant land which adds mana depending on the number of the elf.
Greetings, sires. It is great that your clan exists. I deeply appreciate the idea of Pauper Magic. We at our club even play common-drafts (we make boosters ourself by wrapping 15 random commons in paper) and having a great time. I would like to be a friend of your clan, if I may.
That's pretty cool, Birger. Do you color-sort them and shuffle in an equal number of each color? add artifacts? Use multiple sets? I guess I'm just curious how you set up your common boosters!
Actually, it was not me, but our chief Musya (I am afraid she is not registered here). It is made basically for newbies, but some experienced players took part also. This time it was only Ravnica, so that new players get used to metagame. Idea is like this: all of us gave as much commons and uncommons as possible, so that it was a good pile; than we look through the pile to be sure that there are approximately equal number of all colors (yes, there are artifact, but not too many - there ais no common artifacts in Ravnica, as far as I remember); than we randomize the pile; then we make small 15 cards piles; than we wrap them into thick paper; and then we draft! After drafting we return all the cards to the fund. Before the game evere participant gave 50 roubles (it is about $1,75) - that was for prizes. And finally, four first places received 1 booster (we made so to get rid of "proffesionals, who play not for fun, but for cheap boosters).
Actually, last time I won 4th place with my boros deck and found Devouring Light for my Winnie in a booster. The draft was real fun, because there were lots of new faces, and decks were also funny
Yep, It is real fun! And very cheap way to learn drafting - I know it is not real drafting, but anyway. And yes, we had signets.
And I forgot another concept: there is an unwritten rule: when you win a booster, take away expensive cards, and grant all the other to the fund.
You should defenitely try it. The only problem is making boosters - it is a hard job
I've made a good card advantage engine! It consists of Krosan Tusker and Disturbed Burial, but it can obviously work with Disturbed Burial and any type of cycling creature. I find that it works best with Tusker, because it also finds you a land as well, netting you two cards for every cycle. I'll let you guys figure out how you want to use this engine, but rest assured, it makes a pretty darn decent G/B deck. It's sort of like the Life from the Loam combo with cycling lands.
I wanted to use a similar card advantage engine in a Blue based deck, with counterspells, but unfortunately, Burial is a Sorcery. Soulless Revivalto the rescue! Sure it requires you to run arcane spells to splice it on to, but that doesn't really matter when there are a plethora of good common instant Arcane spells in blue and black. Also, I dropped Green and Tusker, because there is a distinct lack of good mana fixers, and the mana base was getting way too convoluted. No matter, the engine is still great with simple cycling cards. Here is what I produced:
I don't really know how great this deck is in comparison to other U/B decks, but the draw engine means that you will be creating a good amount of card advantage at instant speed, perhaps better than than the Brainstorm/Impulse/AK engine that I've been running in my mono blue deck. Also, the inclusion of Black allows you to run Twisted Abomination, which is probably the best control finisher available in the format. Try it out!
if there are any mistakes, or if a link doesn't work or something, just message me, i'll fix it.
Common Tutors and such, I'll divide by color and what they search for. I won't put cards in that have a search effect that finds themselves though, thats just useless. If there are any mistakes, or if a link doesn't work or something, just message me, i'll fix it.
you want to friends me up? i love pez and i guess i wouldnt mind spending even less money...

But, if you're going to use Fireball, you might want to consider Kaervek's Torch or Disintegrate or Rolling Thunder or Lava Burst... different ways to get the job done, with different effects.
