Hello all, your clan representative here. First things first: it looks as though the next clan contest is going to be a sort of short story/poem along with an illustration (either drawn or 'shopped). How does this sound to everyone? Should I chime in on the short story vs. poem debate? Do we favor one over the other? Let me know!
Alfred, I think you should craft a weekly article highlighting a new combo/engine/deck idea. Your grasp of the format is probably the most impressive displayed amongst the clan members. I know you would have my attention if you decided to do this .
As for you latest creation ... I think I like the Krosan Tusker engine more than the U/B control version. I think G/B control could be strong, utilizing this engine for card advantage, black for creature control, and green to handle any pesky enchantments or artifacts and to accelerate into (maybe ... ) a Fireball for the win (the splash shouldn't be difficult with Tusker, and it's better than Consume Spirit because any type of mana can be used).

Well a poem could better express what our clan is all about, a short story would actually have to have a story. A poem could just express what our philosophy is all about. I wouldn't even be able to play competitive magic without my playgroup, so maybe something about the hardship of the poor gamer? Maybe I'm wrong though, I'm not the most creative person when it comes to that type of stuff.
I suck in photoshop, and we probably have a better drawer than me as well, so I'm probably out for that as well

I totally agree. He has a grasp on the format that we probably all wish we had. Letting others in the magic community know about the format wouldn't hurt either.
Ok I mentioned Life awhile ago, it would have been based on this.

I'm not sure if the normal LIFE engine is needed, but I can't really find any other good toughness pumping cards, so maybe it is. More creatures are needed of course, I like the prospect of second turn kills though, they make me happy. What do you all think?
I'm down with the poem thing. I am an English major and am fairly handy with words.
We should probably start brainstorming ideas for the poem/short story... anyone with a creative bent, any clan member is welcome to cast ideas into the collective pot. We shall stir and see what comes up.
My girlfriend's going back to school on Sunday, then I'll be a lot more present around here.
Alfred is a genius, folks. He is TRULY a Prince among Paupers.
Master of Darkness, yep, we had Terrarions and Signets I simply forgot becuase I didn't get any of them. And we were playing only Ravnica block, specially for new players. And, anyway, even commons in older sets can be quite powerful. And not everyone will give them for drafting. But, anyway, it was so funny, that I think it must be a MUST to any Paper-magic meetings
Hey guys, check it out. Our clan is all growns up... Furor and Votan mentioned us as an example in the Clan Primer! Rad.
Welcome Birger. If you continue to post actively, you will be a "distinguished guest" along with Aisling Leprechaun (who has been MIA lately...) I like the way some other clans do it, with no friends list, but anyone is welcome to post and contribute to conversation (within reason). There's no point in having some of these people on our friends list who never come here and actively participate in discussion.
Absolutely! I think people just think that "being a friend to powerful clan is cool". Personally, if I ask to be a friend of the clan, I usually check their discussion, and take part if it is possible.
But there is one thing that I realised: we at our club don't play real PAUPER Magic, because we have uncommons; but we don't play Peasant Magic too, because we don't have SLOTS for uncommons, we just don't add powerful uncommons (like Putrefy and Helix). Can I be a friend, considering that?

Do you all agree?
Agree completely! Birger has contributed very nicely and I'd welcome anyone the same who would want to come converse with us regarding the world of Pauper Magic, regardless of whether or not there is some silly list, or they're a member of the clan.
I'll second DYH. I myself have been inactive for a little while (holidays and job hunting) but I'll be back in the mix soon. I'm happy to have other posters so long as we can keep it in the Pauper format OR personal stuff goin on. What else is a clan for? :tongue3:
The latest news from the clan council is that each clan will submit a clan anthem and flag to represent their clan's ideals. I put my support beind the idea, as I think it is a well-structured competition based on the poem/image premise.
"Distinguished Guest" sounds good to me. It is painfully obvious that we have friends that never visit the thread.
Well, looks like I will leave this to you guys. I was never good at doing stuff like these. Well if you guys seriously need help I could help out, I will try my best to ''not destroy'' it.
@Jlo: No no no, you will be involved! There is a part for every one of us to play in this Clan Contest. If it's a Flag and an Anthem they want, it's a Flag and an Anthem they'll get!!
@Birger: Welcome, Distinguished Guest! I updated the main page, added you as a friend, and added Veserius' list to the Library.
So, we have to playtest against Alfred's decks. Perhaps we should play againstAlfred, since he does a lot of work on decks and he should get a chance to play!
We also have the Dimir/mill deck challenge, though perhaps we don't need that on our plates at this time. One thing I'm thinking is it might be fun (and far more manageable) to do block Pauper decks (once Guildpact comes out) for the seven released guilds. For some reason, I am kooky for Ravnica block Pauper. We've done commons drafts and I just love it. I love the flavor of this block, and I love how the guilds' philosophies really come across in the commons. I also have some sick fascination with the low power level of commons nowadays. a 1/2 for 5U? Sign me up!
What do you all think of Ravnica, anyway? Love it? Hate it? Let's talk Clan Contest, Guild Pauper, Ravnica Block.
Well, I love Ravnica. Playing Common-draft in Ravnica block is great, because it looks like, you know, some Street gang wars. Boros soldiers against golgari abominations, Dimirs against Selesnya - very flavorish (I just made up this word :))
We've done commons drafts and I just love it
Please, tell more. How did yop play that? Because we're probably having another draft (or, maybe sealed - I mean common-sealed :)) this Sunday.
Our commons drafts are always facilitated by our rich and generous friend Sean. When he buys boxes (every set) he naturally opens the packs and extracts the rares and uncommons and shuffles them to the appropriate, special locations. The commons remain in their boxes. From there it's an easy thing to sort them into piles of 15. We usually do this with 4 people, so he just makes 12 piles and we each pick three, and then do it like normal drafting.
The first time we did it with Ravnica (back in October), it wasn't Pauper... we split a box 4 ways, 9 boosters apiece. That was pretty fun too. I ended up playing Selesnya because I got some nice green cards and Glare of Subdual. Even back then, I was smart enough to see how awesome it is.

Damn, I almost got away :tongue3:

Ravnica ROCKS man. Its the best Set since Invasion. Its better than that stupid Spirit block.

What are ideas on the flag? I can start working on this and me and Jak can discuss and get it done. Anyone here have any Shoppin skills besides me and Jak? (Only reason I know that is cuz we work together in the Sig/Av Shops)
@Beeble: Hey there sport, while I appreciate your enthusiasm, I think we should wait till they announce the contest officially first. Then we need to have some clan discussion about what we represent, iconography, etc.. but yes, you will be the shoppin' go-to guy.

This sounds like a great idea to me. Believe it or not, Ravnica is even BETTER if you utilize it for Pauper Magic. You notice so many other cards from the set that are suddenly playable and, surprisingly, quite good (for example, Jack's mention of Bramble Elemental ... wait, I just got a deck idea ).
So, how should we turn this into an inter-clan "challenge?" Here is my idea: we go down the members list on the first post, with "distinguished guests" included on the end. In turn, each member presents a Ravnica block Pauper deck, complete with strategies against control, combo, and aggro, a tentative sideboard, and an overall game plan (essentially, a miniature article), perhaps at the rate of one per day. If the clan member up next would prefer not to participate, they can simply post saying "pass" in order to move the challenge on to the next member. After all members and distinguished guests who wanted to participate have, we could put up a poll and vote on our favorite decks (have the poll open to the public, as well ...), giving the winner an additional title within the clan. Just my two cents.
Eegag, I think I would not be able to participate, because I'm a real looser at deckbuilding. Talking about that, is there any resource about Pauper to learn Pauper deckbuildning and game strategies?

Also, there are a lot of other green based decks that I haven't explored yet, and probably some sort of cool Rebel deck in there somewhere, and I've been working on a counter-rebel deck AS WE SPEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These decks are probably pretty close to Teir 1 or 2, so try them out against one another.
One thing I also forgot: LOTUS PETAL IS LEGAL! That's a great card!
@Eegag: Great ideas, but let's wait for the release of Guildpact so we have more stuff to play with.
@Alfred: Do you think it'd be a good idea to set up a Pauper decklist library to house your masterpieces (as well as the other ones we may somehow put together)?

Yes, it would be great. Tomorrow we're having another common-draft, and I wll try to promote Princes of Pauper, so we try some constructed too. And your deck library would be a great resourse to use.

I then decided that a more aggro version, that actually killed and such might be a better idea. So here is the basis to the deck.

The next time, I tried W/B even though there were no gold cards. Stinkweed Imp, Faith's Fetters, Benevolent Ancestor, Last Gasp, Dromad Purebred, Mortipede, that one aura that lets you reanimate on a hit, etc... needless to say I lost. I was schooled in the power of the Thundersong Trumpeter.
Right now I have a Ravnica Pauper deck just waiting for gold Gruul commons. It uses War-Torch Goblin, Elves of Deep Shadow, Sparkmage Apprentice, Transluminant, Bramble Elemental, Siege Wurm, Scatter the Seeds, Fists of Ironwood, Galvanic Arc, and Fiery Conclusion. None of my poor dudes have evasion though. I'm hoping for some decent common burn in Guildpact.
