I just spoke with MasterBeeble about the possibility of him becoming the head of clan contest efforts for the Princes of Pauper. "Contest Leader" I suppose would be a potential title for him. (If you have more elegant ones, please suggest them.)
We definitely want to make a strong showing in all the clan contests. Is there anyone who feels he would be unable to rally under the leadership of MasterBeeble for the win? We will of course consider all members' suggestions, ideas, and contributions (for instance, Veserius had the excellent idea of a PAUPER 9), but MasterBeeble will be the one to facilitate discussion about the contests, obtain member ideas and votes (when necessary) regarding our own submission, be sure that everything gets created, perform quality control, and, when it's all said and done, compile and submit our clan's submission.
Let's discuss. If anyone is opposed, let you voice be heard.
Makes sense to me, he has experience, the willingness to get the job done, and is one of the most active members of the clan. Having someone getting us all on the same page makes perfect sense. I think the title "Contest Coordinator" would fit perfectly.
Drake Familiar is pretty cool, but his trick seems like something you're going to make strategic errors trying to pull off. Without more auras, I'd ditch him. I think a nice replacement might be Veteran Armorer.
Also, if you're worried about the Selesnya matchup, what's that spell that deals 1 damage to each creature and player? After you've laid down an Veteran Armorer, blow up the Armorer on the other side with Galvanic Arc, then blast everything.
I'm sure I'll have more thoughts soon. I might actually start thinking about a RBP deck of my own...
EVERYONE: Any more thoughts either way on MasterBeeble becoming the Contest Coordinator?

Oh my, Frenzied Goblin is an uncommon, isn't it? I guess I need to RTFC :tongue3:. Now I need a good one drop ...
Veteran Armorer does seem like it could be a nice addition. I will stick with the Drake, for now, until I can actually do some deck testing.
EDIT: Here are my options for a one-drop:
Caregiver, Votary of the Conclave, Torpid Moloch, War-Torch Goblin, and Boros Recruit. Of those, I feel Boros Recruit is probably the best, with the Goblin coming in second. I suppose, for the time being, my list will look like so:
I think the war torch is better then the recruit since it kills his blockers, it can shoot the damage the turn it comes in to play at a creature blocking one of your others, so it won't be useless lategame like the recruit is moreover with the current decklist.
You might be correct on War-Torch Goblin vs. Boros Recruit. The goblin is probably the better choice in many matchups. As for Veteran Armorer: I do like the card, and Rain of Embers works nicely with it. However, if I am going to have a two card combination in my deck, I think I will stick with Drake Familiar/Galvanic Arc for the time being. The Drake's evasion is quite beneficial when the ground war stalls out. However, I do need to test more, and Armorer as well as RoE will be in my sideboard (so they will be seeing play as I test the deck). Thanks for the suggestions!
We should try and come up with something snazzy for the recruitment thread... some angle that will draw people in. What's good about our clan? Why should people join?
GP is becoming kinda dissapointing, I was expecting the huge splashy impact that RAV made all over again, but its been kinda meh. I have been checking in on the thread, but nobody is talking and I havn't had anything to really say. I do however have a new deck i've been working with.
The mana base is screwed up bad(or as i say screwb'd) I'm playing too many lands, they can be chucked to tribe though. Its also super inconsistent, sometimes i kill turns 2-3 sometimes I can't even get one of the combos off. I need some type of searching, but the mana base isn't currently set up to facilitate that.
Any ideas would really help, I'm at a loss as my knowledge of some sets is so limited.
Just dropping by. Any of you think GP suxs? They just found the Wreak Havoc is actually 4 CC which means **** it.
The community's collective disappointment with Guildpact is a byproduct of the Rumor Mill. Inevitably, during the rumor season, there will be a point that you realize that set isn't going to be what you expected. For me, that wasn't when Wreak Havoc and Giant Solifuge were shafted, it was when they were initially spoiled. The existence of a VERY strong R/G Ponza made so many other cards look unplayable. Now, that is not the case. The changes made to Wreak Havoc and Giant Solifuge, while not fair to those who put effort into testing Ponza decks, will keep the format balanced, allowing more cards to be playable. For those of you with short memories, the week before the Ravnica prerelease was full of negativity, too (because most of the cards had been spoiled, the new stuff coming in was not mind-boggling, and Moonlight Bargain was changed). However, Ravnica is the best set in recent memory. Guildpact, as a smaller set, will not live up to Ravnica, but it will impact constructed with more than six cards (meaning, it will not be another Saviors) and the format of Standard will drastically shift.
Actually I don't quite mind the Solifuge being a 4/1 because I kinda expected it. At 4/3, it could change alot of things and they way people played. But the bomb when Wreak Havoc was to be 4 CC. That would mean everything I tested vanished into ashes. Looks like, I won't be buying alot of GP boosters unless there is really something great which hasn't been revealed yet.
I'm not angry about the playtesting, because that was my own perogative. Wizards didn't hold a gun to my head and say, "You with the unsanctioned early leaks of cards, playtest with them in the wrong meta, then get angry at us when you find out YOU were wrong."
No, I'm angry because the so-called "power uncommon" of Gruul blows. And to a lesser degree, because of the lack of good, playable, common burn spells. I mean, have we tapped out our resources? That replicating Izzet burn spell sucks for constructed. Ug.
Anyway, I haven't given up hope, especially since there are 60 more cards to leak, but I'm just pretty underwhelmed with a lot of the stuff this set is offering. I guess I had pretty high expectations for and and Izzet isn't even close to meeting them, and Gruul was, but then got shafted to the point of castration. Boros isn't really getting much to work with from this set either (so far), so I'm really just feelin' pretty gypped.
Anyway, there's more to come, and if nothing else, it's worth grabbing the duals because they'll be hot commodities in Standard for a while, and Extended for a LONG while.

And of course, who could forget the commons?
Have you seen the turn 3 infinite mana combo UR can pull of now?
Turn 1: U or R land, go
Turn 2: U or R land, Izzet Guildmage, go
Turn 3: Seething Song, Desperate Ritual, Copy Ritual with Guildmage, Copy again, Copy again...again...again...again, Blaze for infinte...
Though it is a like 4 card combo...it'll be pretty sick if you can get it off.

Seething Song isn't Arcane, is it? This would actually require two Desperate Ritual in hand for it to go off turn 3, as you'd Ritual, splice, copy, repeat. I think? What a mess, anyhow
Forgive me if I'm off-base, I skipped the Kamigawa block
I suppose I'll weigh in on the Guildpact issue. First, I feel that Wizards is catering to limited too often, rendering cards that could have been interesting junk in anything but draft and sealed deck. However, limited is pretty much the only time I pay for boosters. There are so many fun cards in Guildpact, from Hatching Plans to Skeletal Vampire, and Orzhov Pontiff to Cerebral Vortex. When I want these, I will order them from an internet shop or find the expensive cards on ebay. No one is making me buy the crap cards, so I look at what is good and my opinion of the set stems from that. I cannot wait for the prerelease. This format of sealed deck is going to be incredible. When GP is released, my friends and I will have a GGG draft, and I'm sure it will be highly interesting. There are plenty of cards that pique my interest, definitely at the same ratio as in Ravnica. Not many of us are, but I am still very excited for the block's middle set.
Speaking of cards that pique my interest ... one of the commons spoiled by R_E simply made me Gruul ... I mean drool (sorry, no more, I promise):
Petrahydrox - :3mana::symru:
Creature - Weird (C)
When Petrahydrox becomes the target of a spell or ability, return Petrahydrox to its owner's hand.
3/3
Yeah, I wish it had evasion. But, in a format without legendary lands, Glare of Subdual, and Jitte to target it at will, Petrahydrox could be a nice finisher for a U/x control deck in RBP. Tin Street Hooligan isn't bad, either. But, in RBP, your targets are limited to Signets and Terrarion. Still, it could see some play.
Tin Street Hooligan - :1mana::symr:
Creature - Goblin Rogue (C)
When Tin Street Hooligan comes into play, if was spent to play Tin Street Hooligan, destroy target artifact.
2/1
Ok, well, I take it no one has objections to MasterBeeble heading up our clan contest efforts, so he's appointed.
Also, once we have the complete spoiler of Guildpact, we should endeavor to make a complete RBP spoiler, listing all commons in Ravnica and Guildpact by color (and the golds/hybrids by guild).
A lot of the most recently spoiled commons are getting me more stoked about GP, as well as the Ghost Council, which is just a damn sweet card any way you slice it. Also, the Skarrgian Firebird is potentially a 6/6 flyer for 4RR that recurs for RRR whenever Bloodthirst would be activated. Awesome red cards excite me. I am a red mage.
I also like the 0/4 life-draining defender for WWB and I hope it's a common. It seems pretty powerful, but who knows with this set.
Creature - type will be
4W: Lionheart Maverick gets +1/+2 until the end of turn.

Douse in Gloom
:2mana::symb:
Instant (probably C)
--something like 2 dmg to creature/player, gain 2 life
Wildsize
:2mana::symg:
Instant (Common)
Target creature gets +2/+2 and gains trample until the end of turn.
Draw a card.
Mourning Thrull
:1mana::symbw:
Creature - Thrull (common)
This is the flying, spirit linked thrull
1/1
Turn 1: Mountain
Turn 2: Mountain + Izzet Guildmage
Turn 3: Play Seething Song, resolve 5 mana in pool.
Next use 3 mana to cast lava spike and splice a desperate on it, leave it on the stack, 2 mana stil floating, use the 2 to cast the desperate ritual thats stil in your hand, let the ritual resolve, and on e again 3 mana floating so you can start the copying chain...
Wild Cantor
Creature - Human Druid
Sacrifice Wild Cantor: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
1/1
I'll be rockin' him in my RBP decks for sure!
Yep! It's RBP's own little BoP, plus it can swing every once in a while. I think it will warrant definite testing in American Fish, as a replacement for Boros Recruit at the one drop spot. In a three color common deck, it will certainly help to smooth out my mana.

Yeah, the Izzet and Gruul, and even Orzhov, guild mana commons were nice. I feel like the thrull would make a nice fit in a Selesnya deck that could pump it a bit.
Skarrgian Firebird, now that is a bloodthirst card. Often a 6/6 recurring flier for 6, while it isn't something to scream about, is quite solid. It can stand up to Kamigawa's dragons for the same CMC. I really like this card, especially in those Searing Meditation decks that were popular when Ravnica was released: discard this to Peace of Mind, activate Searing Meditation, return it to your hand, rinse and repeat.
I think I saw that wall as an uncommon. I agree with that rarity, at common it is just too powerful. Still, a very good card though. With all the tools of the Orzhov, those bleed effects will quickly add up.
Looks good, Jack. I'm guessing that you'll be adding the mono-colored Guildpact commons once the spoiler is complete. I am still going to attempt an Excel spoiler though, making it more sortable. I say attempt because I realized that my Excel skills are quite rusty :tongue3:.
Makes sense to me, he has experience, the willingness to get the job done, and is one of the most active members of the clan. Having someone getting us all on the same page makes perfect sense. I think the title "Contest Coordinator" would fit perfectly.
I think you mean War-Torch Goblin instead of Frenzied Goblin, for the latter is an uncommon.
