ced395 — Compared with Streetbreaker Wurm, your seems a bit pushed. It's more flexible and has 2 more power for one mana. With a bit more effort you could have name a lot of removal cards in your flavor text =)
jwanders — The flavor text is great, but if this your 'beast' to pass to the next level, I'm not impressed.
Komachi — There are 3/2 for 2, but since it's black, I guess it may have sense being a 3/1. Nothing to declare.
LnGrrrR — Avacyn Restored had just released a green 4/3 for 4 mana. Not sure if you were aware of it, but still you were close.
Thelas — Not sure if enchantment creature counts as traditional vanilla creature. Nevertheless, I hate these kind of costs, you must think of so many combinations and...it's not straightforward, and magic should be kept simple.
Ninja Caterpie — A normal spider here, except it has no reach. Only two spiders in Magic history were that incompetent. Also I don't get flavor text, but maybe it is just my english.
vito653 — It should be a common right? Still, there are 2/2 for only two mana, this is weak.
Cypher28 — A nice body for a nice cost. I just think the cost is not elegant. As it is a mountain, you might opted by a second red.
Lordschuft — Not sure also if this is totally vanilla. Reminder text are not exactly rule texts, also because it is only explaining the mana symbol. The card is nice, and the mana cost is also interesting.
1. Lordschuft (if eligible)

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Trophyless guy.
Thought of the Month: I gave up from trying to require the 'i' on my name: SolesticIo
Nomadic Baloth: This is pretty much Silverback Ape, but easier to cast. I don't think the extra G makes up for it being one less to cast. I like the idea behind your flavor text, however I have two minor snags with it. First I think you could have spared a little more text to describe that it was the Baloth making the forest creak. Second is two minor grammar thingies. (Yes I just used thingies in the same sentence as correcting someones grammar) 'safest' instead of most safe and 'They' instead of 'Those'. The nit-pick is out again. Well done.
Well, actually I have some disagreement. I think the best card to compare it is Leatherback Baloth (both are not splashable, while the ape is.) What I did here is basically add the missing power point at the cost of 1. Also, you can compare the baloth to Rumbling Slum, where we are trading the upkeep trigger for being monocolored.
I felt upgrading Leatherback Baloth felt just natural, since it didn't seem almost any constructed play, and cratures still receiving a general pump since M10/Zendikar.
About the flavor, while I left it open to interpretation, It is very obvious to me that the text refers to the baloths (may be it isn't?) About the grammar, I would like to make clear I'm not educated in english and it isn't my first language. I felt "safest" as wrong, since it doesn't exist in the best translator online I know (wordreference.com) About using "They" instead of "Those", I checked the diference between "they", "these" and "those", and decided "those" was the more proper one. It seems I failed.
Khanaphone - How often are monsters that burn things easily hidden? 6/10
Eskimo_Rage - Not a huge fan of Phy-mana on cards that aren't phyrexian in nature. The text is ok, but doesn't "hook" me. 5/10
Mobiusman - Really nice card. Love the flavor, love the "Titan" tie-ins, love the symmetry. 10/10
MDenhamThe flavor text is decent (though I'm not sure if a fire elemental would answer or just try to burninate them), and the P/T fits for a fire elemental. Not sure how many people would play a 6CMC card with only 3 toughness, even in limited. 8/10
Ixias - Good card, good cost, if a bit above the curve. (But it's green, so I'm ok with that.) 9/10
Smores Prime - Well there's already a Wurm at 4GGG that costs 8/8, so 9/7 fits. I also think the flavor text is very "green". 9/10
Void Nothing - I think that the flavor text really wants to make this card a non-vanilla. Also, there's only been 4 archons printed, and they've all been white, had flying, and depict some sort of knight. 4/10
Gerrard's Mom - Pretty aggressively costed, but fair. A solid limited card. 9/10
Random Nation - Not quite sure why it's black, but the flavor text is enough to sell me. 8/10
Blackbull - I almost did a Baloth myself. The flavor text seems a little off though. I don't picture Baloths as caring where they stomp, or being careful enough not to stomp the same place twice. Also, Leatherback Baloth is 4/5 for one less mana... not sure the extra power is worth 1 more CMC. I would've made it cost 2GG. 8/10
Top 3!
1: Mobiusman
2: Gerrard's Mom
3: Ixias
HM: Smores... just not sure if our protagonist can kill this thing
Prophylaxis - The pinnacle of green efficiency, two p/t per mana! Acceptable as a vanilla mythic legend for sheer size-to-cost ratio. I enjoy the flavor but wish the type were Crocodile to match the lore about NYC's sewers.
GideonJur@ - Another one of these types of things? I like this much less, since blue's giant fatties tend to either be undercosted with drawbacks or have tons of cool abilities, so it's not quite fitting. I do like krakens very much, though.
CrustaceanCrusader - *slow clap*
Flabort - LandsquidlandsquidLANDSQUID. Flavor counts for 70% of the appeal of vanillas and the flavor of this card is explosexuawesome. I also understand the gameplay appeal of that (admittedly unorthodox) mana cost and p/t, and it works in its colors well.
L2i0n0k7 - I appreciate the elegance of making it colorless via color indicator. A colorless color dot doesn't actually exist yet, however. It's certainly unfortunate for the colorblind, however. :-p Anyhow it reminds me very much of Wandering Ones, which is maybe intentional?
Atogaholic - A Homarid? Like CrustyCru, you know the ways of the Flamingo well. Excellent flavor text that reminds me of Lovecraft's Dagon. Indeed perhaps reminiscent of one of my favorite vanillas, Armored Cancrix.
Silence_Dais - No flavor text. P/T/cmc ratio is... alright.
Koopa - Fee, fie, fo, fum. I smell the blood of Revoza's man!
I will award up to fifteen points per card, using the following template:
Legitness 5/5 Does the name fit the type(s)? Does the cost fit the Power/Toughness? Does the rarity fit the Pwer-Toughness-Cost ratio? Do these characteristics work well together or do they contradict each other?
Overall Flavor 5/5 What does the card tell me without it's flavortext? Is it worthy to be called a grown man upon slaying it? Is it killable by a clansmember that has yet to earn the respect of his brothers?
Flavortext 5/5 The core aspect of the challenge. What does the flavortext tell me about this creature? How creative is it? And finally, does it 'click' with the rest of the card?
ced395:
Greater Charopede4(B/R)(B/R)
Creature - Insect (U) "Should you encounter a Charopede, be very careful. It has been known to still be a lethal predator even when sliced, stabbed, stunned, shot with a crossbow, choked, cut in half, drowned, dismembered, eviscerated, crushed or vaporized."
—Explorer's Handbook for the Fellan Ranges
8/4
Name, types, cost, P/T and rarity fit each other seamlessly, good job doing so. 5/5
Onward to Flavor. It feels too big for someone to hunt down and kill alone who isn't even considered adult by his fellow clansmen, so I'll deduct two points. 3/5
The flavortext gives the reader the perspective of how clan-outsiders see this thing. I like the idea behind that. It also makes it feel dangerous. HOWEVER, it's contrary to its low toughness, so I'm gonna deduct two points here. 3/5 11/15
jwanders:
Chittering PredatorG
Creature—Squirrel (C) "Bigger that the tallest tree, it was, with giant bloody eyes and razor sharp teeth, fast as lightning, with claws that cut the very air itself!"—Goblin scouting report
1/1
Perfectly legit common green creature. 5/5
It is a carnivorous squirrel. It is DEFINETLY in range of getting killed from a lone clansman on his way to adulthood, though I doubt that a 1/1 would make a respectable trophy, thus deducting two points. 3/5
The Flavortext is not believable. Not at all and here's why: It is described as extremely deadly and dangerous, and its feeble 1/1 reflect the exact opposite of that. Secondly, I do NOT believe that these words would ever come out of a goblin's mouth. I respect your effort though with a single point. 1/5 9/15
Komachi:
Inkfeeder HordeBB
Creature - Horror (C) Some of them had no shape they could have lived with, and some might never have had any skin. Their shriveled eyes glimmered eagerly and their toothless mouths gaped with an identical infantile hunger. Their combined weight bowed the lowest branches while they extended arms like withered sticks to snatch the last glimmer of life.
3/1
There is no problem about a black creature whose power is considerably higher than its toughness. Common may stretch it a little, but nowadays it's legit I guess. 4,5/5
This is some nasty little evil spawn that gives childs nightmares, but it's not too much of a threat to be hunted alone. On the other hand, its 3 power are nothing to sneeze at and carelessness can get some young hunter into serious trouble. Only trouble I have is that you are supposed to hunt a single thing and these are a horde, but I dont't think that it bends the challenge too much. 4,5/5
The flavortext makes for a perfect roundup of the card, while further increasing the 'little evil horror' - feeling. Well done. 5/5 14/15
LnGrrrR:
Stalking Lizard3G
Creature - Lizard (C)
4/2
It blends into the forest canopy, waiting for weary travelers to camp. If the traveler is smart, he will leave food for the beast. If not, he'll become food for the beast.
The name is extremely generic, which is perfectly fine for commons. I feel it's a bit on the weak side though, but only a bit. 4,5/5
I really get what this is supposed to be, a giant stalking lizard. Also, it is in absolute killing range and would make an impressive trophy. 5/5
The flavortext feels a little TOO generic, also it indicates that it may have some sort of ability, which it hasn't. 3/5 12,5/15
Thelas:
Essence of the Arcane(W/B)(U/R)(B/G)(R/W)(G/U)
Legendary Enchantment Creature - Elemental Avatar (R) "It is the living embodiment of the magic we use. If you can master it, you will have mastered magic as well."
7/7
Kinda cryptic mana cost, but the rest feels legit, except for the rarity. Vanillas shouldn't be rare, that time is gone. 3,5/5
This is definetly NOT what a young man is supposed tu hunt in order to become recognised as an adult. Also, since everyone else is supposed to kill it, how is it supposed to be legendary? Other than (in my opinion) failing the challenge here, I CAN see some overall flavor. 1,5/5
The flavortext makes perfect sense and 'clicks' with the rest of the card, though it suggests that it is not going to be slain. This costs you a point. 4/5 9/15
Ninja Caterpie:
Yumid Recluse4G
Creature - Spider (C) Some people mistake the clearings surrounded by silken thread for elvish ceremonial grounds. They don't make any other mistakes.
3/5
Perfectly legit card, I see no problem here. 5/5
The flavor makes perfect sense too. It is a giant reclusive spider, which is clearly not killed everyday, but not too unique to serve as initiation rite. It's a little big though. 4,5/5
The flavortext is cool too, I especially like how it explains that it does NOT have reach. It IS too short for the challenge, but I won't nitpick too hard on a single word missing. 4/5 13,5/15
vito653:
Aku Bala1BB
Creature - Nightstalker
"As children we were told story's of the Great Hellion. Its size is mythic, its teeth are legendary, its furry simply unrivaled. Now its my time."
2/2
The name sounds somewhat legendary which it isn't, so it feels kinda off. Also, this doesn't have a rarity. 3/5
It's killable and feels special enough, but it's Power and Toughness don't 'click' with the rest. That makes it feel weird. 3,5/5
The Flavortext suggests that it is sizable, legendary and mythic. It isn't. 1/5 7,5/15
Cypher28:
Earthshaper3(R/G)RG
Creature - Elemental {R}
8/8 Tracking a mountain is about as easy as it sounds. Marring a mountain is note worthy. Killing a mountain... now that’s a feat.
-Veldis, Voklsung elf chieftain.
It is big, but in a legit frame. It also is a rare vanilla and I don't like these, especially if they feel more elegant as uncommons. 4/5
It is huge. It's P/T further supports that. But how are you supposed to kill it? Remember that every clansman alredy killed one of these to become an adult. Also, the name sounds like it should have an ability. 3/5
The flavortext is fresh and creative, though it puts further doubt into me about it's killability. Secondly, elves hug trees, they don't kill mountains. 3/5 10/15
Lordschuft:
Incarnated Fear
Creature - Horror (C)
( can be paid either with B or by discarding a black non-creature card) "Horrors don't exist - at least not in a regular way. The more you are frightened, the more real they become. Our fear is the material their bodies are made of. And now - Go!" - Father's last advice
3/1
Common does stretch this power/toughness ratio, but as said beforr, only a little. 4/5
This feels like a wasted opportunity. I clearly get the feeling of the challenge of facing one's own fear. However, something as the very incarnation of fear schould DEFINITELY have an ability. What I'm saying is, it's a good idea, but a bad choice. 3/5
The flavortext further emphasizes on the fighting-your-own-fear thing and does so extremely well. 4,5/5 11,5/15
ok so first a quick high light of the rules/challenge of this round:
Design a vanilla creature (it has no rules text). Your design must also include at least 20 words of flavor text, describing the creature you must slay and the dangers of facing it. Note that you do not have the signup equipment, nor do you have a power or toughness. Don't worry about what you could kill in a game of Magic.
so with that said i don't care about your P/T, Casting cost and Rarity... i'll be grading the flavor text and cards overall set up. on scale of 1-10. in case of any ties i will look over the entire card and see who i think is better.

Card's fine, not trying to do anything new. Could be common, but I guess it's not because multicolour? Flavour text is pretty interesting, although I have trouble imagining a fire demon hiding anywhere.
Brooding Siren 1(P/U)(P/G)
creature- siren
2/2 'She calls and they come, but she cannot understand why their bloated little bodies won't embrace her watery home. As a child you can find her, as a man you must resist her call, your transformation must end her threat around our waterways.' Tribe Shaman
Card's pushing it a bit... or not. I'm not sure on this one. As a 3 mana 2/2 it's horrible, as a 2 mana 2/2 it's horrible and as a 1 mana 2/2 it's, er, maybe horrible. Probably is considering other stuff with double-phrex mana. The flavour seems a bit off; wouldn't men be more easy to attract (thus, you can find her) and the children harder to charm (thus, resist)? I mean, children aren't exactly known for being attracted by seductress monsters.
Soulless Titan6
Artifact Creature — Giant Construct (u) "Each morning, the titans wake and roam the earth without reason, crushing all in their path. Each night, they repair themselves and begin again. So it was in my mother's lifetime, and so it shall be in yours." —Arana, Warmother
6/6
Yes, it's a titan. ha ha. It's got no soul, no colours and no abilities. ha ha. The flavour text is suitably epic though.
Ashplume Strider4RR
Creature - Elemental (U) "We'd been tracking one for three days since Ylina got burned on a hunt near the volcano, shortly after the last eruption. When we caught up to it, we asked, 'Why do you burn things?' and got the unsettling response 'Why are things so easy to burn?'"—Halrano, Mahañe warrior
8/3
Interesting cost/power thingy thongies, although I'm not sure how good a 6 mana 8/3 is considering how easily it dies to removal. Maybe pushable at 5-mana for a 7/3 or something like that. At any rate, the flavour text is strangely funny (maybe I'm just terrible), although the first sentence is way too much of a run-on and awkward to read.
Thornback Bruiser2G
Creature - Boar (C)
3/4 "They combine great resilience with considerable strength and inordinate amounts of rage. Everything about them is excessive, and killing one will infuse you with it's spirit - thus forever marking you as a true Asalo warrior." - Asalo Elder
This looks kinda OP in P/T. Four toughness is actually really high, especially in most limited environments where removal is limited to 2 or 3 damage / toughness reduction. This seems like it would be very powerful as a common. Minor disconnect with the spiritual infusion part, considering it has no abilities whatsoever that could remotely connect it to that thingy. I don't think the flavour text needs that last "thus".
Apex Wurm4GGG
Creature - Wurm It's more than a predator, it's an inevitability. The forest

Yay for not giving me a rarity. Dunno why you felt like you needed to squash the text down like that (makes it a bit weird to read and you tend to take pauses where there aren't supposed to be any). Is that where the lines are on the card (because for some reason I doubt that). The flavour text is very cool though, and I can imagine a 9/7 to be the kind of creature so massive it just becomes a natural disaster wherever it goes. A giant creature like that doesn't fit well as a vanilla because, at that much mana, it'll either get removed, or chumped until it gets removed.

5/2
Ooh, pushing it a bit. I don't think this is greatly more powerful than Ashenmoor Gouger, but that was an uncommon that could get blocked. Still, this dies to a lot of removal which Gouger doesn't. Vocal slaying seems harsh (I feel like putting on some ear protection for later rounds...) but the flavour sure seems to mesh with the name and everything.
Root-Bog Gharial1GB
Creature-Crocodile (C) Beneath the marshes murky waters it lies in wait. It’s cold eyes peering above the water, able to see with predatory clarity, despite the trees with their thick leaves blotting out the sun. It waits until the right moment and then surfaces, it's long jaws snapping, crunching through bone and sinew as it takes hold and drags its unsuspecting victims down to a watery grave.
4/2
Creature seems to be fair, but damn, that's a lot of text. You use "it's" wrong twice (you don't need to use it at all), "marsh's" rather than marshes what's "predatory" clarity, and the second sentence isn't one (peering -> peer solve that). TBH it could probably have been reduced to two sentences: the first one reorganised, and the last one without "waits".
Nomadic Baloth1GGG
Creature - Beast U When the naerian jungle creaks, the most safe place is a Baloth's footprint. Those never step on the same place twice.
5/5
Fair card, interesting extension on Leatherback Baloth. This has been mentioned before, but "safest" rather than "most safe". Baloth doesn't need to be capitalised, either, while "Naerian" probably does. It's a bit unclear as to what "those" refers to (footprints or the baloth) and it only makes sense as the latter, so maybe something like "those great monstrosities" or some other descriptor would work better there.
Old Gnarlback: A legendary vanilla? Nope not buying it. Other than that the size and flavor of the creature isn't bad.
GideonJur@
Nereus, Old Man of the Sea: Seeing the aforementioned not buying of Prophylaxis's card. The flavor on this one isn't bad but the Old man in the sea monkier you've given it prevents me from taking the flavor text as seriously as the rest of the card wants to be taken.
CrustaceanCrusader

Komachi - Kind of all over the place. I'm not sure what it's describing. LnGrrrR - Good smooth flavor. Slightly humorous, but still captures the essence of the challenge. Thelas - Feels like you were trying to cheat the system. This has a million things going on at once with no rules text. Doesn't feel right. Ninja Caterpie - Sort of funny. 18 words vito653 - Whose time? "Furry"? Cypher28 - Flavor text captured the challenge well. No rules text doesn't feel like a rare though. Lordschuft - I'm not a fan of the alternate cost here. It's not as smooth and intuitive as phybrid mana.

Flame-Possessed Gnarr - Cute, but seems really weak for the cost.
Brooding Siren - Seems rather weak.
Soulless Titan - Whenever this enters the battlefield or attacks, do nothing.
Ashplume Strider - Because burning things is fun.
Apex Wurm - Silly wurms.
Omenglass Megalith - Colours make no sense. 6/12 for 8?
Screaming Gnasher - Seems strong, but I like it.
Root-Bog Gharial - Hm... Not bad flavourwise, at the least.
Nomadic Baloth - Reminds me of that humorous flavourtext on Enormous Baloth.
Oops... didn't read the rules so just realised we're supposed to judge too!
The only thing I’m less good at than writing flavour text is critiquing it, but here goes.
Smores Prime’s Apex Wurm: Nice flavour, 9 power seems slightly too big for 7 mana, but not by much.
MDenham’s Ashplume Strider: Cute Ftext, could probably be punchier. 8 power for six is a really good deal; I would have dropped the toughness to 2 to make it substantially more fragile.
Void_nothing’s Omenglass Megalith: Ftext doesn’t do to much for me, I’m afraid. Seems very pricey for what you get, and the hybrid mana isn’t pulling its weight—though that could change depending on the environment.
BlackBull’s Nomadic Baloth: About 6/10 for Ftext. The cc/pt combination is very exciting.
Ixias’ Thornback Bruiser: Ftext doesn’t do it for me;3/4 for 3 is definitely power-creeping, to me, and probably not in a direction that’s worth it.
KHANanaphone’s Flame-Possessed Gnarr: On the right track flavor-wise. Green gets 4/3 for 3G on its own these days, so it feels like something here should be rewarding you for playing two colors.
Mobiusman’s Soulless Titan: Flavor text works really well for me; great sense of epicness. As literally every color has a 6/6 for 6 titan, nothing wrong with them all having access to this one.
Gerrard’s Mom’s Screaming Gnasher: Bit of a flavor disconnect between playing a flute, using your voice to kill monsters, and that the monsters a deaf… but points for tying the flavor together more than most. 5/2 works pretty well in both black and red, and this demands a heavy color commitment either way.
Random_Nation’s Root-Bog Gharial: Nice word picture in the ftext! P/T to CC ratio seems pretty good to me, too.
Eskimo Rage’s Brooding Siren: Biggest problem with this card is that the blue/green phybrid symbols are pretty hard to tell apart… but a 2/2 for + 4 life seems about right to me, though I’d be a lot happier if this was an artifact.
ced395 — Compared with Streetbreaker Wurm, your seems a bit pushed.

I question this being legendary or mythic. The cost is nutty, of course. Good flavor.
GideonJur@
Cost is even nuttier. No rarity. Good flavor, though the name is weird (to me).
CrustaceanCrusader
I like it, and good restraint on the actual card choice.
Flabort
Woo a squid. Size is sensible, flavor is good (mmm calamari). No rarity.
L2i0n0k7
Colorless thing I guess could make sense in some context. Size is fine. Flavor is poetic.
Atogaholic
Flavor texts makes it sound unique, but it's not legendary. I still like it though. Size/cost is fine for a common.

Koopa
Good in general, size is probably printable, good text.
queensauce
Good flavor, I like how it's undersized. Sizes don't always need to be pushed to the extreme.

Thanks for your time.

Legitness 5/5
Does the name fit the type(s)? Does the cost fit the Power/Toughness? Does the rarity fit the Pwer-Toughness-Cost ratio? Do these characteristics work well together or do they contradict each other?
Overall Flavor 5/5
What does the card tell me without it's flavortext? Is it worthy to be called a grown man upon slaying it? Is it killable by a clansmember that has yet to earn the respect of his brothers?
Flavortext 5/5
The core aspect of the challenge. What does the flavortext tell me about this creature? How creative is it? And finally, does it 'click' with the rest of the card?
ced395:
Creature - Insect (U)
"Should you encounter a Charopede, be very careful.
11/15
Creature—Squirrel (C)
"Bigger that the tallest tree, it was, with giant bloody eyes and razor sharp teeth, fast as lightning, with claws that cut the very air itself!"—Goblin scouting report
9/15
Creature - Horror (C)
Some of them had no shape they could have lived with, and some might never have had any skin.
Well done. 5/5
14/15
12,5/15
Legendary Enchantment Creature - Elemental Avatar (R)
"It is the living embodiment of the magic we use.
9/15
Creature - Spider (C)
Some people mistake the clearings surrounded by silken thread for elvish ceremonial grounds.
13,5/15
Creature - Nightstalker
"As children we were told story's of the Great Hellion. Its size is mythic, its teeth are legendary, its furry simply unrivaled. Now its my time."
2/2
The name sounds somewhat legendary which it isn't, so it feels kinda off. Also, this doesn't have a rarity. 3/5
It's killable and feels special enough, but it's Power and Toughness don't 'click' with the rest. That makes it feel weird. 3,5/5
The Flavortext suggests that it is sizable, legendary and mythic. It isn't. 1/5
7,5/15
Creature - Elemental {R}
8/8
Tracking a mountain is about as easy as it sounds.
10/15
Creature - Horror (C)
( can be paid either with B or by discarding a black non-creature card)
"Horrors don't exist - at least not in a regular way.
11,5/15

Card's fine, not trying to do anything new. Could be common, but I guess it's not because multicolour? Flavour text is pretty interesting, although I have trouble imagining a fire demon hiding anywhere.
Yes, it's a titan. ha ha. It's got no soul, no colours and no abilities. ha ha. The flavour text is suitably epic though.

Forgive the short critiques. This round made it hard to produce a lot of material.
ced395 - Listing comes off weird. It just gets drawn out and by the end you forget to laugh.
jwanders - Humor is good. But goblin humor is easy to do, close though.
18 words
vito653 - Whose time? "Furry"?
Cypher28 - Flavor text captured the challenge well. No rules text doesn't feel like a rare though.
Lordschuft - I'm not a fan of the alternate cost here. It's not as smooth and intuitive as phybrid mana.

Whitemage57 — tl;dr
Polendino — Not even my favourite mana cost can make me like this.
Emocakes — Fish Beast/10
Solestico — Sounds like a dull read.
Arcel — It's a serpent but not.

Top 3:
- Ashplume Strider (1)
- Nomadic Baloth (2)
- Screaming Gnasher (3)
Honorable mention - Soulless Titan
