Just read back a few pages in the thread, and seen lots of discussion about shock lands coming back. I still stand by what I've said: the shock lands aren't coming back. They're going to make a new type of true dual (Island Swamp) but make it have a worse comes into play effect, like discard a blue or black card or else sacrifice it, something like that.
While the Torment artwork was better on its own, I like the new art in terms of showing a more relevant description of the spell.
Personally, I like the Garruk vs. Liliana artwork the most. I thought they might print that one but I'm alright with the new one. I'm not sure which one I will play, but I'll have some for trade soon...

I don't care how bad of an idea it is.....once Surgical Extraction rotates, I am absolutely building a Battle of Wits deck to play at least once in Standard. And to make it even more jank, the deck will also have Door to Nothingness. BECAUSE I CAN, DAMNIT.
HOLY ****, they're reprinting Reliquary Tower????? Well, now I can actually get my hands on a few without having to shell out $4 apiece for them. And it's still an uncommon! Awesome!
OH NO MAN! It's the revenge of Ham and Cheese!!!!!!
Rewind and Mutilate both being back makes me extra special happy.
Also, stack is now at 1,407 cards. Now runs from Tempest through M12. Also, we should definitely draw 2, at the least, due to the higher variance because of the card volume. Also, it now consumes three boxes.

So which one of these morons is getting a flaming bag of **** on their doorstep for suggesting that Phylactery Lich and Shimian Specter get a reprint?
I guess they just decided to add some EDH staples to 4th edition and call it a job well done. Good work guys! But I think someone screwed up, you forgot to add Hurloon Minotaur.
Noble Heirarch is setting specific. Green doesn't generally play well with blue, and green didn't get exalted in this set.
Not a fan of this set, but it's fun watching people complain over Index not being good enough. Blue might not get the best cards in the format? Say it ain't so.
Reprinting Shimian Specter screws up the plan of playing Battle of Wits, since I specifically didn't want to risk playing against decks with Extraction mechanics. Oh well, just gotta hope it doesn't get played a lot.

Also making exalted one of the themes of m13 and not reprinting noble hierarch??? FAIL!!!!
I'm not surprised. The set's only mana dork is Arbor Elf, which doesn't actually provide mana itself. Putting a single exalted card in green with the rest being WB makes no sense - I would argue that a singleton off-color exalted card should have been blue, white and black's common ally.
I'm really betting hard that BoP's gonna be in RTR.

Uh, and ****ing Pillarfield Ox isn't "setting specific"? Akroma's Memorial? Nefarox, whatever of Grixis? Setting specific is becoming more and more irrelevant each core set, since they keep a) bringing us to new planes and b) tying a majority of card names to the plane, directly or indirectly. They're showing us that, while the whole neutral fantasy setting thing was nice, they also have to keep playing up the Multiverse as a whole, and not just through planeswalker cards showing up in random sets (Tamiyo!).

Well, it didn't see a lot of play its first time out, and black's got a zillion better four-drops.

Good point about Alara specific stuff being in the set, I forgot about that.
Still, green didn't get exalted this set, and most rares aren't printed with tournament play in mind. Don't get me wrong, I won't be buying any M13, but people are complaining a lot about it.
It's not just Alara this core set. As case in point, Pillarfield Ox is from Zendikar and Akroma's Memorial is Dominaria. Of all the Alara block cards reprinted in the set, I think only Guardians of Akrasa has a setting-specific name. There are a few more this set from different planes.
Also, the art they reprint for some cards, like Goblin Arsonist, is setting-specific despite the name not being so.
The consistent arguments against Noble Hierarch being in M13 are:
a) It's abstract for green to get a one-off Exalted as opposed to blue, given the main colors are black and white.
b) Having a mana ability that only produces one of the two exalted colors from among the three it makes is inconsistent with the set as a whole, and doesn't make much sense in Limited, either.
c) It's pretty obvious Birds is in RTR; having a second mana fixer with an abstract color limitation in Standard is pointless.
There are enough reasonable arguments against a reprint in M13 that no one should be upset that it's not in the set.

****ing woof. So the new Mark's pre-release plan has me disgusted. 4 round event then cut to top 8? And pack pay out is 1st-8th, not based on overall record...**** that bull**** bro. I went 4-0 through the swiss and got double god drawn by Jesse's deck in quarters, get 1 pack? How is that fair/logical? Plus it adds like another 2 hours to the tournament for no ****ing reason. I'm probably good on Mark's from now on aside from the *****************

I don't think Mark necessarily plans to make it cut to top 8 for every event. But I also don't think Mark realizes how much little things like that affect people's decisions about coming to his store or not. I'm going to mention all this to him on Tuesday. He's thinking about his business overall, which I understand, but what affects his bottom line profit is a lot more than just event organization and prize structure, and he needs to understand that more.
Yeah, I'd so much rather have it where it's straight 5 rounds and top 8 records take it. Cuts to top 8 at local shop tourneys often lead to collusion to eliminate the top 8 round (kinda like at Depot where everyone usually draws out so they can spend the credit and bail)... or situations like the one I was in where I was faced with unwanted beating while Mikey K played out the top 8. I wouldn't have even played round 4 (at 1-2, my day was done) but I don't get to play Alana often, so why not? But that would have been an epic beat. I would have waited as necessary, but I also wanted to get a move on... It's just not a good scene, especially late on a Friday night. I would have despised doing that, had I stayed for the midnight event...
Five rounds, top 8 records prize is the way to go for Mark. I, personally, loved the old Gray Matter system (where X-0, X-0-1, and X-1 records automatically prized), but I'm not that picky. They gave away a LOT of product there...
EDIT @ Samoht: Um, delete out that bit about the thing that should not be... spoken of, that is.
Yeah raising the prize support is unlikely to happen. You know he bases it on attendance anyway, and if people jump ship because the structure sucks, then prize support goes down, making more people jump ship, and the whole thing becomes a retarded cycle of fail.
Looking forward to some good ol' MBC times at FNM. Awwwwww yeah.
