I like how you made sure to match up the tops and bottoms on your Menger Sponge, I have one that I didn't take the time to do that and it just bothers me at times...
Yeah, looking at the picture makes it hard to tell.
This is why I think it's more than glue:
The deviantart account linked in his signature has a picture of the equipment used for working on the cards. The dremel drill bits in particular make me think riveting is involved.
Either way, it looks pretty awesome.
That would be intense, riveting magic cards to get an authentic rivet look. I don't do too much woodworking, but maybe they use the Dremel to pre-drill the holes where they screws the hinge into place?
So.... yeah. After a few months of "other stuff", I've completed my most recent work. I hinted a while back about it (the 'Vine). Now, to show off the completed work.
here are my first two attempts, if anyone can tell me how to use photo bucket it would be much appreciated.
Go to your Photobucket album clic on the image you when to share, then to the right ''Image Links'' Menu, click one ''Direct Link''. It will automaticaly be copied. Here, clic on the ''Insert Image'' and copy the link.
For the spoiler, you just have to select link in the message form and click on ''Spoiler''
It should work.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that you did a great job on both of them.

My most recent abacus lasted all of two days before being completely destroyed by my girlfriend's dog. Luckily, I have two phone pictures from before it met its end, haha:
well here it is i think im gonna get another copy for the thighs and maybe 2 more for the bright areas (just cut out and glue) but i dont know. not glued
yet or markered.
from the side
and here are those blasted wings i mentioned
the spacers arnt finale and i may turn it into a life counter.
the top spacer is a little warped so it'll have to be replaced, and i think im gonna do more than just one spacer per.
There are 6 copies of death wind in this thus far.
I have been making full-art tokens for a little while now. A guy at my LGS creates tokens similar to these, and I have taken to his style. I like how they are turning out, and I plan on cleaning these up, maybe painting along the edges to make it less choppy.
Wolf
Deathtouch Wolf Wurm DRAGON.
I'm going to find one of my dragon tokens and swap the word "Dragon" from the card as well as the creature type onto this. Someone said they wanted a dragon token, and I lul'd and said he should splice a bird token's wings onto a wurm token, and I decided I wanted to do it.This token is still a work in progress.
All in all I'm happy with how they're shaping up. I hope to get better at this and eventually start selling them. My next project will be a 5/5 trample wurm token and a beast token.
So I creeped on this thread a few weeks back, and was kind of forced to try it. This is my first attempt, any suggestions?
When you cut the card, it makes the edges (where the card was cut) white, and for most cards that does not look too good (it looks like all the Silver Myrs have a white outline) If you take a little extra time, you can use a sharpie or something to color-match the image (so like gray/silver around the myr, green around a tree, stuff like that) It makes the card look a lot nicer (in my opinion)
But the silver myr looks really good, especally for your first time. Keep it up!

I only use sharpie for the outer border of the cards and around the edges on all the middle and filler cards. When it comes to the art, sharpie will bleed into it, giving you an odd blackening. Clean cuts bleed less, but the bleed is still there. Rough cut will have LOTS of color bleed. I use these when I outline the art and uppermost layer. They don't bleed unless you have rough edges.
Coloring the edges gives the card (imo) a cleaner, sharper look. And when done well (and depending on your style), will help the layer edges blend together.
Excellent work vulphix, very nice! I particularly like the beads on the Windright Mage, I used the same ones on the one life counter I made, one of these days I'll bother to upload a picture of it.
So, I'm considering starting doing this myself. Whilst it's not going to be my first project, I do intend to do a 3D Conjured Currency at some point, probably buying a foil of it to have a shiny mirror and coins in the palm of the hand.
But, an odd question to everyone who's done this kind of thing; should I recess the mirrored hand? By this, I mean should I have the bottom layer be the complete card, and the second layer be everything bar the mirrored hand? In terms of perspective, the reflection of the hand is the furthest away (since the reflection adds the distance the mirror is from the hand to the distance between the viewer and the mirror). In terms of actual distance, the mirror and the reflection are the same distance from the viewer.
Should I try and stay true to the perspective, or should I just consider the whole of the mirror a single level?
@ Masked Thespian: good question. I would say have the mirror be one layer. I see what you mean about layering the reflection and what not. If you consider in real life, the reflection is just on one layer, and it is not truly 3 dimensional. That's just my opinion and I could be TOTALLY wrong. (it happens )
This is my first 3d life counter, and I think photo is much worse than counter itself, so the white areas are just light reflections, actually, edges are colored.
@AGO: I feel you on that one. I try to rotate the things I'm doing. Painting cards, Cutting cards, Painting/Drawing on traditional media, Digital work.... and video games. Not to mention tinkering with my "Stack" and tweaking my EDH. I get bored easily with things and to keep things constantly fresh, I try different things or just move onto something else. I also try to read a lot. Usually every week or every other week, I'll try to work in a good read. It helps keep me sharp. I've taken over a large portion of our dining room table for my "hobbies" and it works well for me. I am able to spread out and do whatever I feel like doing. Keeps me sane.
UPDATE:
Decided to take a shot of my current work space, which has gotten bigger. Since I talked about it in my post to AGO, I figured I should show it:
Its kinda hard to tell anything in that Mayael. The image is rather grainy and out of focus. From what I can see, it looks kinda kewl. There are just soooo many flowers in the art, that it has kept me from taking a knife to this.

I love your work, you are incredibly talented with a knife lol. I think you should, seeing as how its a dollar bin mythic.
Thanks. It's been a long time since I made that, but I still have it at home somewhere. If you want, I can try to find it and take another picture, to try to get a better one.

Great job; most of the people who post their "first cards" here look ridiculously bad.
