Sure, it's fragile: mana elf, mana elf, this exiling Vitalize, go infinite.
I thought about this in standard with ready of ready//willing, but the fact that he's a 1/1 on turn 4 or even 3 and cant activate immediately is too much to overcome. IMHO he may be one on the worst imprint cards ever.

This is my idea for the deck. Involves a zhur-taa druid in the mix though for infinite damage. I will be making this deck and I have quite a bit of faith in its ability to do well. Especially since you're running green savage summoning is an option. Savage summon it in on the end of opponents turn 3 with the mana dorks ready and if they cant get rid of it you win. Considering a sub theme of land destruction in it to halt the opponent.
honestly this card would be non-viable even if it had "without paying its mana cost" stapled to the ability. I don't see how it's being taken seriously.

Actually, the cmc of ready//willing is 6 not 3. You would have to have 6 mana dorks, or ones that produce multiple amounts, I.e. gyre sage/axebane guardian. With that being said its not reasonable to get this on T4, and any later, being a 1/1 is more of a liability upon playing him. Trust me it's a trap.
Silence is cool, but he is vulnerable as a creature, verses isochron septor, and since creature removal is main decked often, as opposed to artifact removal, it seems likely you will run into this: get silent stick active, pass, at the beginning of your upkeep pay one, activate silence stick!-opponent-in response kill it-pass? That's a straight 2 for 1 plus you spent your turns building up to it. Trust me, it's a trap!

No. The CMC of Ready (Ready/Willing) is 3
a Fussed DFC CMC is the CMC of A + B but The CMC of a non-Fussed DFC is not the CMC of A+B, its the CMC of A or B not Both soo in this case it would be 3.
Four mana on a 1/1 without protection ruined the card.
Elite Arcanist should have any of these to become playable (still far from good)
a) Defender, Haste
b) Hexproof when it's not your turn
c) Protection from Red
d) be 0/4
e) Flash
f) cost 2 less
I'd really like to run it, just for possible Elite Arcanist + Silence moments, but I'm pretty much in the understanding portion of what everyone else has said that this isn't really viable or reasonable.
I've thought in my head, well, maybe just run two of him, or even, hey, just one and if it happens, it happens!
... but the more I think about it, it's just not worth it unless it's a kill con (or on accident), I guess...

4/15/2013: In every zone except the stack, split cards have two sets of characteristics and two converted mana costs. If anything needs information about a split card not on the stack, it will get two values.
I'm pretty sure this means that this mean A+B, just like if BOB or duskmantle seer reveals a split card you lose life equal to the total cmc of the card, not one or the other. I will check though. Also it is not a DFC it's a split card.

He or she then puts X 1/1 black Minion creature tokens onto the battlefield, where X is that card's converted mana cost." If the top card of your library is Assault/Battery when this ability resolves, the game sees its converted mana cost as "1, and 4." You get five creature tokens.

Don't know if this clears things up, but straight from the M14 FAQ;
In regards to Elite Arcanist and split cards.
If the exiled card is a split card, then is the sum of the converted mana costs of each half. However, when you cast the copy, you choose only one half to cast. You may cast a different half each time you create and cast a copy.
I feel like the explanation in the FAQ kind of contradicts the errata on isochron scepter and panatopic mirror. They are all worded exactly the same when it comes to exiling a card. I don't understand why you can say the converted mana cost of a split card is equal to 2 as long as one side has a converted mana cost of 2 and you can exile a split card with panatopic mirror by paying the mana for only one half, but X for arcanist is the sum of both sides converted mana cost. Why is arcanist different? I feel like what the FAQ should say is that X is equal to whatever side of the split card you are casting.

I believe the difference is in how aggreates are use. For Elite, x is defined by the cmc of the card (so then it gets two answers it adds them - that is, the aggregate function is +). For mirror x is defined by the player. After having choosen x, the abillity is put on stack. After the abillity resolves, the player can then choose a sorcery with cmc x. Since split cards have two cmcs, if one match, then the card matches (that is, the agreagate function is or).

As I mentioned before, our BFF Strionic Resonator does some unusual things with cards that have imprint abilities. We've seen how Duplicant received a wording change to prevent it from having multiple powers and/or toughnesses. But the other imprint cards can also exile multiple cards, and in many cases that wasn't "supposed" to happen. We could've addressed it with individual card changes, but then their rules texts would read very strangely, especially if you weren't thinking about Strionic Resonator. So, I wrote a new rule.
If a card with a pair of linked abilities refers to a single object by using "the exiled card," "a card exiled with [this card]," or a similar phrase, and there are multiple exiled cards it could be referring to, it's referring to all of them. Woohoo! No, really, it's awesome. Check it out:
Consider Elite Arcanist:
When Elite Arcanist enters the battlefield, you may exile an instant card from your hand.
{oX}, {oT}: Copy the exiled card. You may cast the copy without paying its mana cost. X is the converted mana cost of the exiled card.
If its enters-the-battlefield ability is copied, two instant cards may end up exiled. So, to activate its other ability, you need to determine the value of X. Let's say you exile cards with converted mana costs 2 and 5. So you pay {o2} and {o5} (otherwise known as {o7}), and you get to copy both cards. You can cast none, one, or both copies in either order. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/255c&page=3

Don't let other people here tell you not to run something if YOU see potential in it. I've seen people say, both face to face and some on a thread that Monoblue Control isn't viable in this current standard format. The deck list I've posted on that link, has since been amended, but I have had success. With monoblue. Elite Arcanist is replacing my Snapcaster Mages. I rarely play him as early as turn 4 as it is. I'm even considering throwing in white, despite how much fun it is winning with monoblue, to throw in things like Azo charm, Render Silent(because Silence doesn't affect spells on the stack), Supreme Verdict, Sphinx's Revelation, Silence, and even Sideboarding Counsel of the Absolute. My point is, play against the meta, don't play the meta.
A little story, Went to an LGS farther than my usual to play Esper Control at a venue with a higher level of competition. My Drownyards were too slow and I ended 1 - 2 - 2 on a night that should have been 4 - 1 if I had more time per round. The one loss I KNOW I would have still lost, was against Bant Hexproof Ethereal Armor BEFORE it was Meta. That guy sided Nevermore at the same time everyone here said it was a horrible card. He shut people down with it, then gave me a similar lesson as what I'm trying to portray here. I went home, went back to the drawing board, found Peel from Reality and built from there. Shortly there after, Aetherling found it's way into my collection, and into my deck. I went back to that same LGS, played the same guy in Round 4 against the same build and won. I reminded him the last time we played. He was impressed at my build, as were several others I played., and happy to see he helped step up my game. I've never seen so many people have fun LOSING to a control deck.

Yeah this seems to be the case in the matter. I've been digging through the comprehensive rules and individual card rules and it's just extremely confusing. Split cards have 2 characteristics(Noun: A feature or quality belonging typically to a person, place, or thing and serving to identify it.(so 2 different and separate properties that identify it)), and 2 Cmcs when anywhere other than the stack. So what this is saying is that it should look at each individual identity and I feel like this should mean arcanist looks at the card, say far//away, and see that the card has 2 identities, and 2 Cmcs so the answer to X should be 2 OR 3, but everything is saying it is X is equal to 2 AND 3. I believe it should be OR not AND since they are each considered to have their own features that identify the card and the player should have to choose the feature X refers to, but apparently they don't. I feel this further is complicated by the new rule created because of resonator listed above where exiling 2 spells causes you to add the Cmcs of the exiled cards to find X which then lets you cast none, one or both spells. Once again I don't agree with this either. 2 separate characteristics, 2 separate Cmcs, once again X should be equal to card A's cost OR card B's cost and the chosen identifier is the one that is copied, but it's not.
If they are making us pay X=to the sum of both characteristics why are we not casting none, one or both halves? Council of the absolute has errata saying that you name one half of a split card not both(this isn't even changed in the comprehensive rules yet and it's been quite sometime that this was changed) and his cost reduction effects the one half, and the can't be played part of absolute effects only the one half of the card(it doesn't view both halves of it as one card).
I guess it all comes down to interpretation of the rules WoTC has created, and I believe in this specific case X should equal A OR B, not A AND B, but obviously my interpretation isn't the one that matters. I honestly just give up on this. Whatever. A card that had the possibility to be very interesting, is now not nearly as interesting. Isochron scepter on the other hand will be extremely fun with the ruling on strionic resonator.
If something asks for the card's characteristics, it gets 2 sets of values. If it needs the CMC for an answer (Bob, Arcanist), it uses both values [A, B] and totals them. You can only play half the card, as that is the rules of split cards.
In the case of say, bloodbraid elf, it asks "Is the card's CMC < 4?," which can be "true, false." The rules interprate that as "true" (it only returns one result), and when you do cast it, you can pick the other half. See rule 708.6a
708.6a. Anything that performs a positive comparison (such as asking if a card is red) or a relative comparison (such as asking if a card's converted mana cost is 3 or less) involving one or more split cards in any zone other than the stack or involving one or more fused split spells gets only one answer. This answer is "yes" if either side of each split card in the comparison would return a "yes" answer if compared individually.
It's a difference in asking what the CMC <is> and <comparing it against another value>.

So, in short, you can imprint a split card(or if you somehow manage to get more than one instant imprinted) you can cast one, the other, or both spells, and = corresponding CMC for whatever combination you choose.

I dont think so. Again, from the M14 FAQ;

No. This is what they are saying it actually does is that if you have far//away exiled onto arcanist, X would be equal to both of the cards CMC combined. So in this instance X=5. You have to pay X=5, tap arcanist, copy the spell and even though you had to pay the sum of both halves, you only get to choose one half of the card to actually cast.
With strionic resonator exiling 2 cards, X is now equal to the sum of both cards. So lets just say silence and cancel. X=4(the sum of the CMC of both silence and cancel). In this case when you pay 4 you copy both spells and you can choose to cast none, one or both of the spells exiled this way.
I am quite dissapointed by this.

I dont think so. Again, from the M14 FAQ;
If the exiled card is a split card, then is the sum of the converted mana costs of each half. However, when you cast the copy, you choose only one half to cast. You may cast a different half each time you create and cast a copy.
