This thread is for the discussion of Meyou's latest article, Off Topic: Tilting the Water Bottle. Due to technical issues the thread that is normally created when an article is published didn't occur, so I have created this thread to allow you to talk about it. As always, please keep your comments on topic.
Loved the article! I'm a "casual player" when it comes to biology and health sciences and always appreciate any new info on how to keep my body and mind as fit as possible. It was great to see an article that used Magic to teach skills and habits you can use to improve make your everyday functioning and overall quality of life. I'm going to try and be more mindful of my water/salt intake ratio after having read this one. (I was in the middle of my second bowl of extremely salty chicken and bean soup as I read that section. It was an awkward moment, to say the least.)
I hope it's not too personal of a question, but are you affiliated with the Mayo Clinic, Meyou? I saw a clearly educated "lab rat from Rochester" writing an informative article about staying healthy and it immediately came to mind.
I'll be taking a look at the rest of your articles. Thanks for writing this one!
Great read, thanks so much for taking the time to write and post.
A lot of great advice about things I've been working to improve in my own life, like drinking more water.
(That's why the title drew my attention)
Then you spoke of the lungs and smoking, which also applied to me, as I'm working to quit the cigs.
I've cut back my smoking to only a few a day and have been replacing them with more water intake.
(And trying to play more Magic to keep my hands busy...)
And go figure... guess who's starting to feel better? Yep. That would be me.
Again, good advice and thank you for sharing it with us.

If I had a dollar for every time I missed playing a Counterspell ...
I'd be missing my Mana Drain s instead.
All sounds like common sense to me.
And your bit about someone needing attention in a hospital from drinking too much water? Ha ha, yeah they call that drowning.
When I opened up this article I thought it was gonna be about Putting off your Opponent by squeezing your water bottle repeatedly, ad nauseum.
Guess not...
For the rest of the day, the optimal water intake would be to that eight or so bottles of water (or however much is best for you) throughout the day.
I did give myself some wiggle because it is highly dependent on activity level, the amount of moisture in the food being taken, environment and etc. I also said it was recommended. However, the majority of people fail to take in an adequate amount of water. I guarantee there are way more people entering an emergency room due to dehydration than because they drank eight glasses of water.
I will conceded there is a lot of debate about the issue. I think it is a little silly though. For one, it is highly dependent just like the clothes people wear. A person doesn't exactly wear the same clothes year round. I can't recommend wearing a swim suit year round when that person lives in Alaska. The other fact, I doubt I will ever see anyone enter the ER because they drank their eight or so glasses of water a day.
