Marcus sat down for a night's sleep after a day's trouble. His peaceful slumber soon was disturbed by a voice calling out in his dreams ... "Marcus, the gods have decreed that you must embark on an important quest."
"Do not be afraid. I am Hermes, messenger of the gods. Great and perilous deeds await you. When the light shall come, you shall visit the ancient ruins of Argos and from there the light of the gods will guide you."
"Oh, Hermes? It is indeed a great honor for a small craftsman like myself to be visited by one of the gods? Oh yeah, I'm really curious, how did you guys defeat the titans again? Oh, what's it like being immortal? What gods are going to supply this 'light' you speak of? How is being a messenger really a god-like duty? How are things with Zues? What about Poesidon?"
[No fair. I wanted to annoy the hell out of a god.]
Marcus gets up, wondering what happened last night? Then his mind quickly switched over to what he was going to eat, but then he found himself thinking about yesterdays events. That quickly drifted out of his mind as he thought about the mysteries of his own pockets. Then he thought about what birds keep inside their beaks. He takes a break from his wonderment to look around, thinking of what mysteries are hidden right in plane sight.
"I have no maps. I sell pottery". There on the doorstep stood a beautiful young girl of around eighteen. She had brown eyes and hair and had something striking in her appearances.
"You know I just sell your normal pottery. The one that you use to put flowers in. If you want I can show you my merchandise."
At this point the young lady opened a sack which she had been carrying at her side.
"Heard you mention Argos. Not the nicest of places, but if you want to go there, my grandfather will be making a brief run with his chariot. Personally I'll be going to Thebes where the king is said to be hosting a great celebration. If you prefer that you can come with me.
"I'd love to go to a celebration, but Hermes told me to go to Argos. I wonder what's there? Why would the gods talk to me? What gives them their power? What kind of adventures will I have? Oh yes! I would love to hitch a ride on a chariot!"
"Yes, yes please! Why do you appear so sad? What's wrong? Is something disapointing you?" Marcus says, as he secretly goes through whatever he can in her belongings.
"I just hoped that you'd come with me to Thebes. Anyway, seems that you've made your choice. Shall we set off to my grandfather's place. If you want you can help me get there by carrying the merchandise."
Yvonne handed the very heavy bag to Marcus. "There you go. Thanks!"
"Of course! Of course! I wil always be happy to help. Let's go!"
On the way their, Marcus looked thoughouly through the bag, taking out many things, and replacing them. Sometimes he'd forget to replace them and they'd be left out. Sometimes he accidentaly put something else back in their place.
[Feel free to intervene at any moment. :D]
Yvonne led Marcus along the way. After a walk of around 40 minutes the two arrived at a small tattered hut on the outskirts of the city. On the outside a fire was set up and farther back was a well set up chariot.
"Ah yes, thank you very much young lady." Marcus said, bowing his head. "I hear this is how they show respect out east. What do you think? Is it too exotic? What are your thoughts?" While saying this, he accidentaly dropped a piece of pottery he had in hand. "Oh dear me! I'm sorry! How can I repay it? Hey, this piece looks weird. I wonder if it means something?"
"Hey, what were youdoing with that? Please stop meddling with my pottery. Look I'll lead to my grandfather, Arcanus and then we'll go our separate ways. Ah, there he is!"
