Subject: Possible additional rares in TSP boosters
FYI -
Due to a collation change I wanted you all to be aware that TSP boosters can contain more than one "rare". For instance: foils now replace commons, so a rare foil could replace a common.
Don't be shocked, remember in limited, what you open is legal.
Andy
i think this "two rares" thing is sort of a warning about the timeshifters, and not nessessarily the idea we could get a Mishra, Magus, and an Akroma. if it was a 3-rare possibility i would guess they would have caught it and fixed it... this is obviously intentional.
It has been reported that timeshifted cards will come in foil already, so we have that down, but now we can get a rare, a timeshifted rare, and a foil rare all for the price of one pack and one common limited filler? Wow, that's a God pack.

Getting the last word does not mean that you win the argument.
so damn... in a single sealed you can get... *math math math* 13 rares. (3 TS rares in starter, 3 P rares in starter, 1 foil rare. 2 TS rares in boosters, 2 P rares in boosters, 2 Foil rares) uhh... damn..... given getting 3 foil rares would be crazy, but evn if only one foil rare it's still 11 rares in a sealed. booyea.
I don't think it means you could get 2 TS rares. I think it's just a way of saying you could get a TS rare and purple rare and either could be foil, without actually spilling the beans on purples. Notice the emphisis on "everything you open is legal"
can you post the link where you found that? I'm curious to see it's context. I'm not doubting it's real, but there has to be some explination about why all this is coming out. I mean... are they trying to mess around with pack costs? having a possible of 3 rares in one pack will make after market TS packs be worth something. (say... two - three years)
(drools) this reminds me of a booster draft I once played in. It was back in invasion block and the story got a god box of planeshift (12 rares and 3 uncommons per pack) My collection had never been boosted so much in my life! although I have a feeling this might beat it!
lol. I swear they are trying to kill all the judges. Do you know how many Judging calls we are going to have to check deck sheets? If someone sees 5 rares on the table at once they're gonna ask questions. Also it would be soo easy to slip in a rare and say you got it in this sealed as long as the other person doesn't go off calling you on it. Us judges are going to get some serious heat off this set. On the plus side our payment of boxes will probably be paying out more in idividual cards! yay

hmmm....just a bit curious in that last line.....could be something bad but i hope it's just my over imagination.....
but...."Don't be shocked, remember in limited, what you open is legal"
in limited??? i hope whatever conclusions i'm coming up with are simply products of an overly perssimistic imagination

in limited??? god please let it be just a pessimistic response
I noticed that too. It's saying one of two things:
1. (the pessimist ideal) the Purple cards are actually only legal in Limited.
2. (the more likely one) it's simply reminding that no matter what all you open in limited (the occasional god pack) it's all legal in that limited event.
I've seen games where there was 3 identical uncommons and others where there was no rare just a blank card. In limited it's all rather random and unpredictable and this sentence is only restating that to the judges that as long as it was in the packs opened it can be played.
Maybe the foils will share the same common slot that the timeshifted cards are already taking up?
This seems more realistic to me than the other scenario since getting a potential 3 "rares" in a pack is crazy and collation would be less complex if the same slot is used.
So how do you play that then? Is it the Joker? Some sort of ultra clone-wish-thing with mistform ultimus abilities plus whatever else you want?
Edit: and there will be 3 rares in a pack possible as magiccrazy said because what he says is law(and it was all proven true)
lol. no. They just played with one less card in their card pool. It was funny since a lot of local guys collect misprints and one of them bought it off him for $30. cracked me up.
Uh, guys... I think you're missing the point...
It used to be that when you pulled a rare foil, you didn't get a non-foil rare in the pack, as the foil rare replaced the rare. Now, when you get a foil or whatever rarity, it replaces the common. That is, you could get a foil Moonlace and a Norin, the Wary in the same pack. Or, you could get a foil Jaya, a regular Magus of the Scroll, and still have the possibility of a Purple Akroma.
All in the same pack.
Many a rare-drafter will be greatly overwhelmed by this set.
This is going to be all sorts of nightmarish for judging limited events. It makes sense that they couldn't get it done the normal way since it's 2 entirely different card sets that have foils.
3 rares would indeed be cool... but I don't know it it is so easy to get all 3 in a booster.
Well for what I know each booster box has at least 1 foil rare that in TS will replace a common and since the rare and the purple are a given it would be a 2.7% probability of getting the 3 in a pack

I believe the closest translation is:
Attack one beating chicken of 4 cards, then erase 3 minus from your battleax. Never in your main phase will you do a 4 cards risen, but McDonald of 2 to the punish-bin. Again, beat softly to the end.
Well for what I know each booster box has at least 1 foil rare that in TS will replace a common and since the rare and the purple are a given it would be a 2.7% probability of getting the 3 in a pack
So 3 boxes almost GUARANTEES me at least 2 of those packs and maybe even 3 of them.
I don't see how everyone is inferring this random 3 rares or more rubbish.
Remember, as far as WotC are concerned, no-one 'knows' of the purple reprints.
So all he's done is confirm at the same time that purples exist (which we know) and that purples can come in foils (which we also knew).
What he's on about is the fact that the purple reprint replaces a common, and the reprint might be foil - hence you are getting a foil in what would normally be a common slot. You aren't getting any more cards, and it's nothing special.
Unless you get both a normal foil rare AND a purple foil rare - that would make me wet myself in happiness.
Also, the comments about 'what you open you can use' is not strictly true - if you get a 'bad' booster / tourney pack (eg the wrong number of cards, and *in theory* the wrong collation) you should alert the TO and get fresh stuff. Of course, I've only seen this a few times when a couple of boosters had 14 cards. But basically, anything that might end up with your checklist not adding up (eg too many standard TS cards, too many rares etc is asking for trouble should a judge spot it.
If someone came up to me at a pre-release and said they'd got a booster full of rares, I'd see if the TO would be willing to give them a fresh normal pack to play, and keep the booster, after all, it's not fair to reward honesty by taking them away. Of course, the chances of this happening are zero!
