I couldn't see any recent threads with any ideas close to this one, so here we go, and I warn you, it is pretty crazy...
As we know, Dominaria is pretty much the centre of the Multiverse. As was hinted at by the Izzet, what happens on Dominaria will ripple through the rest of the Multiverse. Since the time rifts seem to not only be bending time but in some cases, space as well (as shown by the Madara rift, allowing the Myojin of Night's Reach to make her way to Dominaria to drop off Toshi.) I think that planar chaos may have us seeing suspended beings not only from time, but other planes as well. Something else that has been tickling the back of my mind is Chk block's manifestation of spirits. The seem to appear from anything and at will... and yet are also described as being not normal, and far more ruthless and wild. While in Kamigawa's mindset, there is the "spirit realm", I find myself wondering if the Spirit Realm isn't another plane that has overlayed with Kamigawa? Perhaps O-Kagachi is a planeswalker that merged himself with the "spirit realm" and then overlayed it onto Kamigawa for some reason (maybe it was a false plane, like Argentum, Rath or Phyrexia, and needed to be overlayed to survive). This would explain how the manifestation of spirits in the "real world" is similar to the suspension of beings occuring on dominaria. More on this is a moment... The time rifts are also drawing mana into them. Where the mana is going is a currently unanswered question... but my guess is that it's going into other planes, and actually "mana flooding" them. In fact, this could very well be the case with Ravnica, and show why there is "hybrid mana". (Which would also explain the Ghost Quarter, as it could be a direct result of a rift sending too much Mana into the plane, somehow causing a second reality to exsist.) As for Mirroden, the final plane hypothosized by many to be in PC, what if the events in Mirroden took place in a section of the Multiverse that is seperated by a rift larger then any other seen so far? This is really stretching, but what if a rift opened in the multiverse, seperating Mirroden and the surrounding planes from the regular time of the rest of the multiverse? This would mean that while thousands of years could have passed in that area, the rest of the multiverse could be ticking along normally. (see also how Teferi seemed to only spend 100 years away from Dominaria, but it was actually 300. perhaps this effect is larger, farther away from the plane?) So how do they all tie together? How does it all get fixed? Well back to the O-Kagachi idea for a moment. If this is the case, and Nicol Bolas goes to Kamigawa to hunt down the Umezawa line, what if Bolas discovered what O-Kagachi had done, and decided to do it himself? Except that he would wish to do it on a much larger scale - he would wish to do it for multiple planes, so he could "fix" dominaria permanently and rule as a true god. This would make him an unlikely (and unknowing) hero. Bolas could merge himself with Kamigawa (and the spirit realm, after beating/subduing O-Kagachi), Ravnica, and Mirroden (taking a plane that is seperated from time would somehow be a neccesary part of the equation). Karn, Freyalise, Teferi and the rest would all be on Dominaria thinking that they could do small things to fix the rifts, such as sacrificing their sparks (small in comparision to Bolas's plan), and would be shocked when he began a massive, multi-plane overlay. While at first this might seem like it would cause MORE rifts, since the rifts are already connecting these planes, it would actually cause them to seal, as the two points they were connecting would finally exsist with one another. It would probably cause massive distortions in reality, and Bolas would probably destroy much of the other three planes (rav, mir, kam) in order to restore Dominaria. In the process, Bolas would probably kill himself, having taken on too much. The rifts would seal, and the foundation of the multiverse would be restored (as was mentioned earlier, what happens to dominaria ripples through the multiverse), stronger then ever, as the planes hit hardest by time rifts and planar distortions would no longer exsist. Also, in case anyone's worried about certain races dying off for good, there is no reason that they can't be in another one of the millions or billions of other planes in the multiverse (such as Kitsune, Orochi, Leonin, Vedalken, Loxodon, etc etc..) This would happen over the next two novels, first with Bolas discovering the truth about O-Kagachi and decideing what to do, as Karn shows up to help do things to heal dominaria w/ Teferi in PC. Then in FS, Bolas does his overlay, while Karn planeswalks the population of dominaria to saftey for a while, then returning them to the healed plane. So ya, in summation: Nicol Bolas merges with Rav/Kami/Mir, and overlays them onto Dominaria in order to use what would normally be a cataclysmic effect to heal the world and the multiverse. Probably killing himself in the process. Karn makes sure that no one dies from the overlay. Crazy? Yes. Far-fetched? Yes. Possible? Anything's possible. ![]() ![]() |

What would Bolas have to gain by merging the Planes of Ravnica with Kamigawa and Argentum?
Yea, it does sound a bit farfeteched to me. Bolas' goal is wanting vengeance on the Umezawa line, even those who are dead... Which leads to three theories on Bolas: 1. Agyrem anyone? If Ravnica has one of them, there could be a likeness in Dominaria perhaps. 2. Venser. Venser's machine let them see into the past did it not? Perhaps Bolas will use that to his advantage. 3. and this is the one I believe most, We don't see him again in this block. Simple. Eitherway though, Freyalise will be more involved, and we know Karn will also. (And... perhaps Windgrace.)

Its funny that yet another Dragon flies away in a MtG novel. It would be pretty funny if Nicol Bolas goes to Kami to kill some Umezawas and meets another Dragon by the name of Niv-Mizzet. As Sensei Ryu and Lord Firemind they hoodwink a bunch of people on Kami and maybe kill some Umezawas. But one Umezawa steps up and pokes Bolas with Toshi's cheater stick and Bolas dies. Then Niv-Mizzet flies away yet again...
*lol* j/k

I like what you have there, BringerKing. At the end of the day, i respect people more who have the courage to jump out on a limb than those scarred and hugging the tree trunk calling for mommy.
Furthermore, the idea doesn't sound so far-fetched at all if you think about a few factors. 1) After the last few storyline blocks, would just moving to another normal continent on Dominaria with everything "fixed" be something you're interested in? Doesn't sound all that amazing currently. 2) Do you see this time debacle going further than 1 block? Again i'd say know, meaning we have to have another idea. 3) Are we g0ing back to "planar-hopping" mode? Doubtful, as we just got home, however different home may be. We're certainly too soon to return to Mirrodin, Kamigawa OR Ravnica, but certainly each was enjoyed on their own merits (CHK and RAV moreso than MIR). Perhaps the way to refresh Dominaria is to re-build it...by mashing them all together. Now i don't know that Bolas has anything to do with it, but i can see the final answer being "wherever the holes lead, we have to add those places to Dominaria". GOOD JOB!

I'd guess that Bolas and Niv will be connected some how. (I still vote for Father/son!)
As far as planehopping goes... I dont know. We'll either stick with Dominaria or we'll go to a new plane. If we do go to a new plane though, I'm 99% sure the connection to Dominaria will be much stronger. Maybe we're following refugees from Dominaria's destruction? Or maybe we're following whatever task force Teferi and Jhiora set up as the go from plane to plane closing rifts... |
