Default [PC] Whitemane Lion (From rules primer)

I think this may have gone unnoticed since all the other cards on the rules primer were accounted for in the partial spoiler, but it sets up a theme with these kinds of cards in white. This might just play out as a worse dream stalker but it could return a few groundbreakers too, who knows.

Whitemane Lion
{1}{W}
Creature -- Cat
2/2
Flash (You may play this spell any time you could play an instant.)
When Whitemane Lion comes into play, return a creature you control to its owner's hand.

A primer is a nice start, and it shows off a new theme of the set...maybe a cycle. that certainly will help out the spoiler.

This rescue mechanic is nice. Might have some applications, especially with creatures that have neat cip effects. I think we can expect them to scale up through uncommon and rare. It is also probably there are lots of commons with this ability, although it could get annoying to have too many flash gating creatures in white.

Haha nice one! I don't believe we even had the rules primer yet.
Still I can see this card being a nifty little trick as you say being used on Groundbreakers and the like, putting damage on the stack returning the creature which would otherwise be dead. Better than the normal flash bears i think.

Greg, thank you very much for reporting! I didn't even know that the rules primer was out.

It says that this is a white theme. Good to know!

Flash (You may play this spell any time you could play an instant.)
When Whitemane Lion comes into play, return a creature you control to its owner's hand.

* You may return the "rescue" creature itself to its owner's hand. If you control no other creatures, you must return the rescue creature to your hand.

* If a rescue creature instructs you to return more creatures than you control, you must return all the creatures you control to their owner's hand.

* The ability doesn't target the creatures you return. You don't choose which ones to return until the ability resolves. No one can respond to the choice.

also, since this card would have to come after voidstone gargoyle in white as #22, this messes up the number crunch information too. there might not be a split card in white or there might be more than 31 cards total.

i haven't been paying close attention to that thread but it can't be good.

At least they pluralized split cards in the primer so we know dead/gone isn't alone.

Looks like rescue is a sneaky return of gating in white :P

Funny. This will be truly annoying in limited. If this is a common (I guess), I wonder what a rare "rescuer" might do.

I feel that this means that "bounce" has been split up betwen white and red, red bounces other other player's creature, and white bounces your own. Flavorful, i think.

Well we pretty much have a blue uncommon one, Plaxmanta If they do stuff other than bounce, anyway. maybe one that gets counters for each creature bounced.

This card is really nothing like Plaxmanta, not to mention their in different blocks.

In any case, the rules primer states that they will all return one or more to their owners hands.

This is almost certainly a common.

I'll be rescuing Calciderms left and right it seems. I kind of want to build a deck around that now- CRS: Calciderm Rescue Squad.

I pity the foo who tries to target white's creatures after Planar Chaos.

This cycle could be really really good!

EDIT:

Also, it doesn't specify a color to return. Just any creature. That makes them a great deal better, as you can splash this for a trick...
