Default [PC] Mana Tithe

Good evening everyone! I hope you're all still glued to the 'mill!

Now firstly can I get a "Hell yeah!" for [PC] rumor season? [/tommylee]

Some more Orb findings, anon info and tidbits has led us to peice together yet another Timeshifted card, this time a common, originally from Blue, now in White.

Brother Rickcorgan has been waiting for this for a long time as many of us have been, and finally I present to you:

Mana Tithe
w
Instant
Counter target spell unless it's controller pays 1
Common.

Yes, a white counterspell. I've got some other tidbits of info we've been able to glean from the "Orb" (Of course), so expect summore sometime soon.

Please feel free to discuss, but as always:

Please keep discussion on topic; Remember to give us some content/intelligent insight in your posts please.

I wish they had just reprinted Force Spike instead .

Probably a good card for UW control decks, but not nearly as powerful as Force Spike .

Interesting but I don't know its use just yet. It disrupts aggro decks that tap out for early threats, but it's weak late game.

Because U/W control decks aren't powerful enough with Spell Snare. Grumble grumble.

White Force Spike is very cool and will make UW control even stronger.

Hmmm. Not sure about this one. Just a dead card late game though.

Okay, I don't really get it, but I know it's good! The name is obviously white, duh. The effect? It's a stretch, but why not, in this set.

This will be played. Not by me, but it has potential to show up in Extended in certain decks I believe.

EDIT: One of the reasons Force Spike is so good is that it has support - other ways to drain the opponent's mana so that it becomes more of a hard counter. White has less of that support.

still amazing early game those 1,2,3 turns and even when peope are stupid and tap outs leaves you to use your other counters. this makes u/w control better and it was pretty good already.

It's a playable sb card in white weenie against control match-ups to counter the 1st WoG or Damnation. Buys time to lay the smack down.

I have a soft spot for Force Spike.
And this card feels so very white.
Why?
White is all about taxing effects. (You can do X, but first you have to pay some mana...)

We have the art for this, of course.
The dude on the money scale.
This was hinted at on the magic podcast. A white Memory Lapse is something RnD wanted, not sure why. This type of spell fits white much better.

Umm... how exactly is it "not nearly as powerful" as Spike?? And, for the detracters, you have no idea how much of a pain in the neck Force Spike was back in the day...

This will be a great surprise in limited. I can't wait to counter someone's 8-mana bomb with a Force Spike...

Force Spike in White is just crazy... This has a large amount of potnential in both standard and extended.

I was really hoping for a white Arcane Denial as the counterspell hinted at.
This card is very white, and very powerful. Look at cards like Loxodon Gatekeeper for similar white effects.
I don't see how anyone can say that this card is less powerful than Force Spike. They do the same goddamn thing. I mean it's not like white has really good creature removal, or big timesifted finishers.

Because taking advantage of this card pretty much requires that you play blue. Force Spike is already blue, so playing with it doesn't automatically make you U/W.

the only reason force spike is better is because it's blue. mana tithe forces you into UW, which comes with all those risks of running two colours over one.
