Huh! I wonder why more isn't made of Shadow of Doubt's power to stop dragonstorm. I suppose that it must get played in Dralnu sideboards, but this is the first I've heard about it.

Really? Truly? I don't believe you. It has been mentioned and used everywhere that can think of using blue or black. But to tell the truth, people in my area are rather fond of Trickbind, as it can't be responded to. Even though it took a few months of my telling them that the 'Bind is better. I could always play around Shadow of Doubt, as I could counter it / respond to it, but perhaps that's just my awesome playing coming through...
What are the Dimirs' thoughts on Future Sight, thus far?

I love that 3 of the four black guild keywords were used on the land cycle, plus to my knowledge the white has not yet been spoiled so it still may have Haunt causing all of the black guilds to get a land of their own in FS. I also like a bunch of other cards but I am currently in a night class so I shouldn't write much more for now.
Edit: Oh, yeah... PLANESWALKERS!!! OMG, that makes me quite wet.

Well, I don't read up that much, or that deeply, I should say, on Type2. Lots of things obvious to a regular player surprise me.
And Nix does look cool! It's a very esoteric and narrow card, but I think it's going to get more play than other ability hosers like stabilizer. (Because this card was clearly made a a subtle way to punish suspend.)

Also, Stabilizer is the only card (to my knowledge) that fights cycling.
There are numerous anti-Suspend cards, including Pull From Eternity (obvious), Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir (he does everything), and now Riftsweeper and Nix. (I know the cardtags don't do anything, but they will eventually!)
I am also freaking about about the Planeswalker supertype. I wonder if they will be indestructible Creatures or something complete out there...

I've always wanted to do that with cardtags, even before the set comes out.
@ daftmouse: thanks - Bronze Baby has to be one of the best because a lot of people have said they liked it.
And do we know anything about what planeswalkers are? I know we got that it's a new card type but do we know what it does?
Wow, I really haven't been here in a while. How's everyone doing?
I really need to get on more nowadays, There's just so much business with homework, golf team, baseball and other junk. I'll try and stop in more often.

Mark Rosewater has spoken.
He has said that "free" spells are inherently broken, so I don't expect to see them again anytime soon ever.
If I am proven wrong, you have every right to say "Told ya so!" but until that day comes, I stand by my intuition. (I just wish Future Sight didn't change my perception of the game so much, or I'd be 100% sure of my comments...New Supertypes? Enchantment Creatures? Land Creatures? Holy mother of pearl!!! :o)
@ daftmouse: thanks - Bronze Baby has to be one of the best because a lot of people have said they liked it. :D?
That one's funny, but it's not my favorite because I don't like thinking about hurting babies. So dead baby jokes are a no-no. I'm not impressed, merely disgusted.
I hope they bring back the untapping mechanic, ala Cloud of Faeries.
They have made cards that seemed off the radar for things that Wizards would ever do. But I think MaRo has a personal boner for hating this mechanic. I think he feels personally responsible for the brokenness. As long as MaRo is at the head, I don't think it will happen. It'll take someone who isn't personally responsible for the mechanic and likes it enough to want to do a fixed version.
But I do think they could make some free cards. I don't think the mechanic itself is broken. You just have to be careful about the stuff that you put in the same environment with it. But that can be said about a lot of mechanics; to some degree it can be said of every mechanic.
@AI: I can't believe you would get on my case for making fun of killing babies.
(EDIT: I thought the above line would be funny. It's actually just sort of more disgusting than anything. >.>)
And I'm doubtful that Planeswalker will be necessary. I mean, tribal I can see why they made it a type. But planeswalker seems like it will be a superfluous flavor add-on that should really be a supertype.

"Free" spells are only balanced if they cost almost twice as much as they would have without the land-untapping ability.
This means that if this mechanic returns, the cards that will be made will either have unusual drawbacks to mitigate the ridiculous brokeness that was, or just be so boring as to be almost pointless.
Just my $0.02.
I'm not sure that the "free mechanic" actually belongs in blue. The free mechanic is all about getting something for just having another thing (not for using it.)
Green is the best color at getting mana, and red is the best color at unloading its hand, so it makes a lot of sense in those colors. I think if we saw the free ability again, it might not be in blue.
Makes some sense, but how about they make a card like this.
Big Fast Wurm {}
Creature - Wurm
Trample, Haste
You may play this creature without paying its mana cost if permanents amongst permanents you control together could produce 5RG.
6/6
I think that is a less broken free mechanic, but it is probably worded horribly. Also the Gruul sux0rz

I knew I had seen the word 'scree' before, so I looked it up. And seeing that it was the rocks at the bottom of a hill from a landslide, I looked up Skred in swedish, in which is means landslide.
So the two words are probably related.
Um.. No real point to that.

I actually disagree. If we look at the reason that Wizards ought to be weary, it's only Solidarity that's the issue. Cloud of Faeries is good because it basically produces UU with High Tide. Faerie Blocker produces U with a High Tide. Is that really overpowered?

Yeah, I think that the free spells are really only broken for large effects. For smaller effects, it's fine. I wouldn't want to make too many of them either. Also, card draw is absurd when comined with it. And you do need to increase the cost or lower the power at least somewhat.
I know that's a lot of stipulations and there are probably more, but that's no reason to treat it as taboo design space. There's a right way to make the free cards, and they are making none because they don't seem to think there is a right way.
Oh yes, someone else who knows how to pronounce "dh!"
Dhat's awesome!

Well, wamyc, let's really look at this mechanic. First, I maintain that you can get away with having a U 1/1 free creature. It's not terribly good. Combo might play it, but they lose consistency for little return. Fish isn't that good anyway, and it certainly isn't going to be busted after having a free 1/1 creature. Hell, if people play Jotun Grunt (or whatever it is) before Cloud of Faeries, that just proves my points.
Secondly, let's look to the definition of broken. There are basically three resources: life, cards, and mana. Or, because we are playing combo, it's all or nothing. Therefore, there are only two resources: we're looking at cards and mana. Thus we would expect that a broken card is one that gives us both resources at the same time, or one resource without trading off with another. In other words, paying mana to draw cards isn't bad, nor is discarding cards to get mana.
However, getting mana for free, cards for free or both raises some red flags. Thus when we look at all of the cards spanning the "free" mechanic, the only ones that are banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage are Frantic Search and Time Spiral. It's easy to see why: both cards give the combo player both resources without any penalty at worst, and surplus resources at best.
Cloud of Faeries, Peregrine Drake, Palinchron, Rewind and Turnabout all escaped the ban hammer, and again it is easy to see why.
All said, then, I think you have to go a little deeper before sticking with the kneejerk response that "[insert mechanic here] has been broken before; therefore, we need to make cards really expensive for it now."

Well, it's broken in Type one, but that's not saying much given the skewed perspective in that format. I think it's practically useless outside of type one, unless you count a random storm deck. (and dragonstorm doesn't need this card)
@Goatchunx: You realise that I basically agree, right? There's nothing particularly special about the constraints in designing free cards and they are treating it as a special taboo.
