if I attack with Kithkin Mourncaller and it gets killed in combat, can I draw a card?
I though it didn't trigger since it's not in play when it hits the graveyard but looking at scg.com, it seems that its ability triggers and thus that I can draw a card...

Q: If Kithkin Mourncaller attacks and dies during combat, do you draw a card for the Mourncaller?
A: Yes, Kithkin Mournacaller's ability will trigger when it is an attacking Elf that goes to the your graveyard.

or is the only difference then that if Kithkin Mourncaller stops beeing a Kithkin (because of Nameless Inversion for example) you don't get the card?

The last comment is correct. If Kithin Mourncaller is neither a Kithin nor an Elf when it goes to the graveyard (thanks to something like Nameless Inversion), it will not trigger it's own ability.
Because it is usually a Kithin, it usually satisfies the trigger condition for it's ability when it goes to the graveyard. As Dunjohn said, objects "see" themselves go to the graveyard, so as long as the object satisfies its own trigger condition when it goes to the graveyard, it will trigger its own ability.
