Wind was beautiful in its subtlety and dangerous in its wrath. Suitable for her. At this moment, it was the former, blowing Shael’s hair elegantly as she strode with familiar grace. She didn’t have to look to see that heads turned when she did this. After all, she needed to ease the tension of the crowd. Nothing alleviates pressure like a little visual stimulation. When she grew tired of the gazes of strangers she bounded off to her room and sat in her study room, always looking for answers. Tonight, however, her mind was on something else and her focus was wavering.
Shaela sighs, sitting down in a comfortable chair and tossing her hair backward so that it lay relatively neatly down her back.
What is going to happen, anyway... the Air that guides us shall know, yet has not revealed....savages fight and kill that which they do not understand, and we still thrive...

It was Auros, the greatest wind adept and most powerful manipulator of wind. He brought a younger man named Aneld, rumoured to be the next greatest pupil and one of only a very select few who could wield more than one element; wind and light. Aneld was just a few inches taller than Shaela and likely just a year older. He worse the black garb of a student but transcended that status in almost every way.
Auros spoke, "I hope we do not disturb you."

Auros commanded a presence, there was no denying that. "I believe my student wishes to speak with you. I have urgent matters to attend to, which probably doesn't surprise you, but I assure you that my student's matters and very important."

"Good evening" he said in a voice that was obviously hushed due to his apparent nervousness, "I hope I didn't distract you from your studies."
He knelt down and kissed her hand, an awkward but traditional gesture adopted by students. She could feel his power through their brief touch as the accendo that encircled both of them connected for just a moment and sent waves of energy through both of them.
"I- I was already distracted, by current events, you might say." Shael is somewhat flustered by the harmony between herself and this one. "What is it that you could possibly need from me?"

"I think that we are all a little bit distracted..." he said as his voice lowered, "... and just a little bit nervous. For many of us, this will be the first war that we will fight in and I think that many of us are not sure what fate has in store for us."
He loosened the neck of his robe to alleviate some pressure on him but kept it just high enough to cover his collar bone, on which the top of an oddly shaped outline could be seen. "But I digress" noted Aneld with a scholar's manners, "I am told that you have an artifact that is rather rare. One that responds to light, am I correct?"
"Yes. I found it one day, in some ruins. I like exploring ruined sites, for you never know what you will come across..." She digs around in a waist pouch, producing the prism. "Right here. His response was riddled with ambiguity, "what do you know of reading fate?" Aneld was focusing on the artifact and closed his hand around hers and the prism. Again the accendo that connected them surged through her.
"Uhhh...."she says aloud, thinking furiously: I knew I should have paid more attention in class. Thrice-damned fool, I am...and why do I resonate with him???

He chuckled, his first relaxed gesture, "why does one read fate? To learn, of course! Surely someone as intelligent as you seeks answers."
Taking the prism from her palm he explained, "every element on Disegreth is capable of telling a story. It can tell of the past, it can help you understand that present and if you're good, you can make it tell what it knows of the future."
"I am aware of the ways of elements, even if certain of them are more difficult to harness than others. This, I would think, is a thing of Earth, yet contains elements of Light as well...am I correct? To use it, one would have to expose it to bright light and concentrate...yet I have not learned exactly how to do that. Is that why you have come, then, to borrow it?"

"I will only need it for a moment" explained Aneld. "I'm not sure if you're aware that I have the gift to command 2 elements. The first, wind, I have been able to manipulate since I was a young boy. I discovered the second, light just a few short months ago. Already I'm learning its potential."
He held up the prism with one hand and in the other he conjured a bright white light, illuminating the room that they stood in, casting brilliant colors onto their surroundings. "First, I must focus on reading the here and now. You cannot read fate without asking it first to reveal the present."
Aneld reached out and touched the side of Shael's head, "you must see how I see." when he touched her, her eyes lit up and she saw a brilliant indigo fog fill the room.
Shael is shocked for several reasons- one; he had had the temerity to TOUCH her in such a way, without her express permission; two, she didn't mind all that much; and three...the vision...
"However do you find anything through all this?" she asks incoherently.

A smile crept onto his lips, "that indigo haze isn't my magic at all. In fact, it's the very essence of all of our magic. It's what makes our magic possible. I don't need the prism to see it, but I do need it for us to share this experience. It's what makes being a master of light so exhilarating. Would you like to guess what you're seeing right now?"
"Hmmm...tell me." Shael smiles and looks out of the corner of her eye. "I shall act as your pupil in this, Great Master." It's obvious she's teasing him.

Her teasing was amusing him and he lauged before he spoke, "it is Disegreth's gift. Right now, you are seeing accendo. I see it all the time. Normally you can only feel it, but I can see it blowing across the great planet. I can see it rush through you when we make contact. I can also see it dance playfully around you as your charisma manifests itself."

The student answered, "Well I can predict what you're feeling, at least. Accendo is merely the planet's response to our emotions, so when it changes I know your emotions have changed. It comes in handy sometimes". He smiled at her and moved a little bit closer so that he could show her his next ability, "Well now that you can see as I do, I want to look at the future. To do this, we will use the prism to let the element of light tell us a story."
Once again, he illuminated the prism and a myriad of colours highlighted the room. This time, however, Shael could see the accendo fusing with the colours. First there was a wave of red hues and then suddenly, every colour melded into black and appeared to melt before their eyes.
"The future...does not exist? Or am I looking at this in the wrong way? Red- danger, destruction, pain, suffering- black is the void unending..."
She shakes her head- this is harder than she thought.
"The past is immutable, the present made as we breathe, yet the future is yet to be created. I cannot let this world turn to the void. Tell me how to stop it."

Aneld was temporarily lost in thought. "Elements tell the story of nature, but since the future is unclear, reading it is ambiguous and frustrating at times. I do not think that black signifies a void, but one cannot be sure. There may be something that is black or seems black that will shape this planet. Perhaps even our artifact. Elements know the futures of substances on the planet, and we can only make predictions as to what they will be."
He removed his hand from Shael's head and spoke, "I do believe that Auros will have to hear about this. Until then, I discourage too much speculation." After he finished speaking, Aneld realized that he was still standing very close to Shael and took a step backward. He returned the prism to her, "Thank you."
When she grew tired of the gazes of strangers she bounded off to her room and sat in her study room, always looking for answers. Tonight, however, her mind was on something else and her focus was wavering.
