Hey, I'm recently coming back into MTG, and I'm working on a mono black zombie deck. I've finally play tested it, and it's worked superbly, or it's terrible, or I get lucky and win with 3 Festering Goblins. Almost no in between. It's mostly a huge improvement over my last zombie deck. Anyway, I'm looking for anyways you guys could help me make it better.
Creatures (22): 4 Zombie Master 4 Death Baron 4 Zombie Trailblazer 4 Festering Goblin 2 Undead Warchief 2 Lord of the Undead 2 Soulless One Enchantments/Artifacts/Spells (14): 4 Cover of Darkness 4 Chainer's Edicts 4 Dirge of Dread 2 Mystic Compass Land (24): 22 Swamp 2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth |

I'd also like to add that as it stands now it has a nice mana curve of around 3, which means I can usually get started early.
And I'm a little wary about taking Zombie Master, Mystic Compass, and Urborg out. The swampwalk is really good when I get to use it, because with Lord of the Undead, Death Baron, and Undead Warchief pump my zombies up very nicely, and are unblockable. I have considering taking out Dirge of Dread though, maybe replacing it with something that brings creatures back from my graveyard. |

LOL i never really like the swampwalk way of winning. its pretty lame and its very unzombie-ish. cmon, its a tribal theme deck. zombies arent meant to swim beneath the swamps, theyre supposed to rise from thegraveyard and something like that...
of if you want them to be unblockable, give them fear. after all, they are creatures of the dark heres a deck that i've built that goes along the zombie theme without comprimising its competitiveness. this deck has made top-8 legacy format tourney around my area.
basically, it runs by two ways. one is discarding as many cards as you want, and along the way, discarding bridge from below and dread return. through this way, you can make tons of zombie tokens buy utilizing the flashback ability (say you have three zombies in play, you can sacrifice all three for dread return. while you do this, bridge from below triggers in your graveyard, replacing the zombies that you sacrificed. and if you sacrificed rotlung reanimator and withered wretches, its more bonus zombies for you). and with the help of death baron, all your zombies are a threat. the second way is just go plain aggro. sacrifice lots of zombies to carrion feeder and just go nuts with him. or make tokens out of zombie infestation (if you feel like it, play that on your second turn and discard most of your hand for it and end up with three 2/2 zombies). did i mention that death baron makes all zombies a threat. if the game managed to go on for a long time, use balthor the defiled. early in the game, he can be discarded or saved and late in the game, he can be recurred by either dread return or unholy grotto. notice it doesnt have any disruption? i kinda play it like black-suicide. no pads, no helmets, no safety, all balls. you dont need disruption if you wanna go all out. i mean come on! what kind of a zombie actually thinks which brain hes gonna eat first, he just eats them all. you dont need to make someone discard. just go balls to the wall! anyways, i hope im being helpful...

Mono black zombies can be extremely deadly, if played correctly.
A sample list:
Four Korlash serve as manafixers and as a traget for Shizo's fear effect, not a bad thing. The creature base is relatively low CC, with synergy between Husk and the Reanimator. I don't think Bridge is needed, primarily because of the lack of Zombie Infestation in this list- you have no reliable way to dump it. Shepherd of Rot can plain win the game for you.

4 gempalm polluter
4 gravedigger 4 festering goblin 4 withered wretch 4 Putrid Imp use a bunch of cheap zombies to get in the early damage, then finish with "polluter burn". bringing a cycled polluter back with gravedigger then cycling again is so good! |
