Attached (also here for your convenience: ) is the Apprentice patch for Conflux.
This is a clean compile, using a self-authored program, from Gatherer, meaning it incorporates all the latest errata, including the changes in WotC's January 2009 Oracle/Rules Update Bulletin.
- Jon Finkel Facts: (follow the link at left to see more Facts, or add more Facts!)
- Chuck Norris counted to infinity twice—because he was trying to count how much damage Jon Finkel deals in an average game.
- Jon Finkel believes in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. He gets all his fiber from eating Magic cards for breakfast, and all his protein from eating Magic players for lunch.
It all looks good, with no problems here. Thanks a lot for putting this up.

Several years ago, WotC apparently surveyed Magic players across the globe. They found that people liked turning things sideways, and hated LD. This is the result:
As always, I too appreciate your efforts. But, a request. Since you build these automatically from Gatherer, would you consider in the future including some other sets? Such as Unglued, Unhinged, Master's Edition, and Master's Edition 2? I realize that the Un-sets can't be played over Apprentice, but it would be nice for those of us who use Apprentice as a deck database as well as a app for playing Magic.

Since you asked, I just uploaded a new version to the first post that now has Masters Edition and Masters Edition II. So just download it again if you want support for the Masters Editions.
However, I won't be supporting the Un- sets for a bunch of reasons: because a lot of the cards' functionalities can't be played in Apprentice anyway; because they cause weird stuff to show up in the card filters; because there's no way to represent a lot of the visual gags; and because there's no official errata for outdated text templating in the Un- sets (for example, Unglued creatures still have "Summon" in their type lines).
Also, my compiler program pulls straight from Gatherer, and Gatherer gives incorrect text for several Un- cards, including "B.F.M. (Big Furry Monster)".
I would also have to rewrite my compiler program to have exceptions for weird things in Un- cards. "Erase (Not the Urza's Legacy One)" has italics formatting; the one-half pow/tough is rendered oddly in Gatherer; etc.

I hope FirstType doesn't mind my using his thread, but in response to Pichoro's request, my patch includes Unglued and Unhinged, as well as several other features (including, but not limited to, the only English-language list of cards for the 2006 invitational duplicate sealed event, those made up cards that occasionally appear on April Fools Day at mtg.com, and actual flavour text (at least on some cards)). It can be found here.

Thanks for the patch and for not including the Un-sets (I agree with your reasons for not doing so).
I am experiencing a minor issue with the Format filter. The Apprentice card counts for Format = Legacy (Type 1.5) and Format = Vintage (Type 1) seems way too low. According to Gatherer there are more than 10000 cards in both Legacy and Vintage, but Apprentice shows only 3892 cards for both formats.
It's not actually a bug in the patch, but rather in Apprentice. Apprentice caps format set strings at 90 characters, which is only enough to store about 29-30 sets. What this means is that the Legacy and Vintage filters can only process 29-30 sets, which was a sufficient number for back in 1996 or so when Apprentice was developed, but grossly insufficient now. It's unfortunate, but there's nothing I can do about this since the bug is with Apprentice itself rather than with the data files in the patch. In general, if you're trying to do deck construction for Legacy and Vintage, it's better to not use any filters at all.

so this patch includes all cards up through conflux without reprints etc?
It includes all cards up through Conflux including reprints (for example, Oblivion Ring will show up in both the Lorwyn and Shards of Alara filters).

I've downloaded the patch twice now and I can't seem to find any cards past 10th edition. And all sets since then say "List index out of bounds (0)" when I try to generate them.

Well, it's working for thousands of other people so, troubleshooting the most common errors:
-The files should be unzipped to your Apprentice folder, NOT to a subdirectory of the Apprentice folder, with the exception of "CardInfo.dat", which should be unzipped to the Sets subdirectory (if you just do the default unzip to your Apprentice folder, since the Zip contains directory structure info, everything should unzip to the right place).
-The files in the patch should overwrite all previous files with the same names.

The patch isn't an executable; it's a ZIP archive. Use a program like WinZip to extract it to your Apprentice programs folder.
